Okay! I have a couple of questions. I have the 36A pack of ciao markers and the 8-marker manga skin tone pack (also ciao). I'm not that great with them yet, but I also feel like there's a limit to how much I can improve because I don't have that many colors. I can't afford to get more right now, but do you have any tips for working with a limited palette? Also do you have any tips on color theory in general with regard to markers? Oh, and when I save up for more markers, would it benefit me to get normal copics or sketch markers instead of ciao?

I know those are really broad questions so I apologize in advance

Ah no, don't worry about having many questions especially as a beginner. ^^ It is a coincidence that I write small tutorials (twice a month) about markers on these subjects you mentioned. I write them for another company, who produces markers, but you can apply what I write about to just any kind of marker. The link is letrasetblog.com/author/aileen… . Of course you are welcome to ask me, if I didn't cover what you want to know in these tutorials.

My first advice to you would be to forget very quickly that having many colours available will automatically improve your skills with them. That's just a big no. The only thing you can improve by having many colours, is to pick interesting combinations (after you know how to use them!). Right now you have a pretty decent amount of markers and I wish I could have started with this many (I started with 3). ^^° I just had a look at the set and you've got so many great great colours in there for practicing blending etc. I'd say you should get to know your markers and how they behave; try out different paper types as well. What colours go together and which don't and so on. Get to know what colours you can use in what way. Just because a colour is labeled as a skin colour doesn't mean you can only use it for that and vice versa. It's all down to personal preference and once you are comfortable with that you can start to build your own colour collection.

My tutorials labeled as 'techniques' are aimed at beginners, and the ones labeled are for people, who have mastered these bare basics. Generally my opinion is that you learn faster and more, if you have a limited palette, since you are forced to actively think about what you want to do.

The normal Copic has a square shape and doesn't come with a brush nib, but you can buy brush nibs for it (this is rather expensive, in case you want to convert many markers). The Sketch does come with a broad and brush nib by default, but it doesn't hold as much ink as the normal one. 

To be honest, I don't know what marker would benefit you better. Technically all do the same apart from the fact that the Sketch offerers the widest range of colours. You can refill the normal Copic, the Sketch and even the Ciao. The one major advantage the Sketch and normal Copic have, is that you can replace the nibs. The normal Copic offers several different types of nibs, not just a brush nib. In the end it comes down to how much money you want to spend and which of the mentioned details above is more important to. Quality wise there's no difference between these markers.

I'd love to help you out but it's such a long process, I'd have to write a novel!
I just did a google search for "how to make an utauloid" and got lots of hits. One guide that looks really comprehensive is this one: [link]
Most guides seem to give a lot of options about what program you should record in. I personally used OREMO and I loved it! It was so easy to use. I know how to read Japanese though; I can't remember if there's an English patch for it or not. It's worth a look!

I won't explain all of the steps for you here but if you have any questions while you're making an UTAUloid, feel free to ask me and I'd be more than happy to help!

Yeah Japanese definitely sounds better! Sorry if I was unclear. You can definitely record a Japanese voicebank even if you don't speak Japanese.

The only reason I mentioned the Japanese thing was because you might need to know it in order to read the words and the reclist in the OREMO program.

Just in general, a knowledge of hiragana would come in handy during the UTAU-making process, but it's not required.

Yesh absolutely! Making the sweatshirts actually seems wicked easy which I'm happy about. I just need to get a sweatshirt, the black striped shirt (which I could also make), and cargo shorts. I might just borrow Theresa's black Converse for shoes, or if I have the money I'll get Kai's normal boots and wear those~
