I know Joey and I love him, but respectfully, my paintings aren't odes to him. We both came up in the gallery scene about the same time (I've been doing shows since 2006, many alongside Joey) and we share a lot of the same influences. We're both looking to the greats, like Evyind Earle, Mary Blair, Charley Harper, Maurice Noble, J.P. Miller, M. Sasek, Mel Crawford and many of their peers for inspiration. We also look up to current greats like Lou Romano, Tim Biskup, Scott Wills, Chris Reccardi, Amanda Visell and many others... so I would say Joey and I are doing our own kind of odes to a lot of the same artists. If you dig some more, I think you'll find a lot of aesthetic crossover in today's gallery and animation artists.

Thank you! Most of the work I've posted here is traditional, but I use lots of digital brushes for studio work. Some I've gotten from studios and friends, some I've made by scanning traditional media and some are Kyle Webster's brushes.

I look at art from all different sources... children's books, fine art, animation, photography and then nature itself. All of this helps inform aesthetic taste. Then when I plan a piece, I do a digital color rough to figure out what I want to do.
