unfortunately, i'm not going this year. The lack of a job makes it tough. Hopefully i will manage to do it next week. I suspect that since you are overseas, you're not going to make it either.

I know how you feel there, I wish I could go, but I will have to live vicariously through pictures and what everyone else says about it this year.

But of course! If ever you're in San Diego, consider yourself welcome here! (oh, and just an FYI... I do not charge military families for photo shoots, especially when they have loved ones over seas...)

I was a pilot... Air Force Captain... and don't call me "sir", I'm working for a living now! Heh... I flew the UH1s, and the cargo planes (not just the C130s, but any cargo plane with props) Flew a Blackhawk once... ONCE... hate em. I like the simplicity of a good old fashioned slick. The sort of bird that doesn't stabilize the rudder on it's own, and gives people the willies every time you throttle up, because the tail doesn't quite match the torque of the main... oh yeah... that's living! Remember boys and girls... that bird you're flying in was built by the lowest bidder... on a Friday, by employees thinking about their weekend! (kinda gives you that warm fuzzy a bit, yeah?)

wow, We fly contract air here in the stan russian S-61 and the standard uh-60 and CH-47's. Funny you mention being built by the lowest bidder. when I was on my way home there was a piece of a C-17 fell off while we were over the ocean going into kuwait. my buddies have stories about getting ready to coem over here and there was a C-130 that had a engine fell off, A C-17s wing fell off, and another C-17 that it's engine caught fire after take off and had to EMR land. seems like over here everything is breaking down...kinda scared to make the flight all the way home after hearing about that lol

My brother-in-law has been over in Iraq doing repair work on UH60s, and the horror stories of the lack of parts... sheesh... I think every politician should take a pay cut and use that money for decent parts for repair work... let them live off the kickbacks from special interests they keep taking illegally anyway!

Hell, take the corporations like Halliburton, that are making a killing off the war, and have them supply parts and equipment as well...

But that's just me I suppose...

punkrawk1982 In reply to Warflight [2010-06-05 03:58:54 +0000 UTC]

I will agree with you on that one, over here we built a new B-hut for our S-1 shop and it's going to take the rest of the tour just to get parts to put power to it and get it all up and running. Maint is a nightmare though. I remeber in iraq it took 6 months to get a new windshield for a hummve one time.

lets not forget the private security contractors over here that with the Gov't supplied contracts. those guys are making a killing over here. We have some blackwater guys here and they are making 6 fig just on the first rotation they do here in gardez and this is the safest place in the stan.

Heh.. yeah... the American media is assuring us that Blackwater isn't there... Dick Cheney's own private army... only people with private armies is Dick Cheney, and James Bond Villains!

you sir have been quoted on the private army statment, and it is very true. The media has stuck their grubby fingers in just about everything. Makes you think about the communist news network...CNN
