And you know, I was pretty damn pissed about the casting at first--probably more so when Jesse McCartney was tapped to play Zuko, but I've adjusted to it now. I'm excited to see what they can do.
But its just so frustrating seeing how, once again, asian actors are left out to dry in Hollywood. And if it weren't for Dev Patel, there would be no color at all in a world that's meant to be populated by Native Americans and Asians. THEN M.Night has the audacity to change the name pronunciation because "that's not how its really said in Asia?" W/E, dude, seriously.
But I digress. I really am looking forward to it, and I hope it'll kick ass in its own way as much as the show did.

Ha, I don't know many fans who are happy with the casting. I do find it interesting that you've accepted it finally, I'm still unhappy but not truly "angry", and my friend hates it. Like, really hates it (she's Asian, so that's part of the reason why, the white-ification of obviously Asian nations).
I hadn't heard of M. Night Shamalamadingdong changing the name pronuncations. Which is extra stupid, since he made them white! WTF?! Hypocrisy much?
Yeah, I'm keeping my expectations of this reallllllly low, that way if I can at least leave the theatre not angry and hating it, then that will be good! hahaha.

I just kind of had to accept it, otherwise I'd be wasting so much energy on hating it. We have to accept they are different beasts.
Not to mention I am completely used to disappointment. I have watched 5 out of 6 Harry Potter films be completely torn apart, and have watched my favorite characters be butchered over and over again. So, quite frankly, a couple of white people playing characters I love won't bother me as much as seeing everyone completely Out of Character and seeing the story ruined.
Although I agree--I really don't think he's in any position to demand a more Eastern name pronunciation if he's working with A BUNCH O' WHITE FOLKS. *facepalm*
My expectations are pretty high, just mostly cause I think it should and could and would be very entertaining. We'll see, but I am pretty excited to watch it!

Oh, yeah. This certainly won't be my first fandom disappointment. Jurassic Park 2, Spider-Man 1-3, Terminator 4, Watchmen, X-Men 3, Star Wars prequels, Indiana Jones 4, and others all jump into my mind as examples of that.
But, despite my extremely low expectactins (just to preserve my sanity if it ends up sucking), I will of course be there with my friends on opening night. Because I'm an Avatard.

You know, I actually stayed up one night thinking through a re-write of those horrendous POS's. If I'm dedicated enough, I just might write them down.

Speaking of the prequels, when my previous girlfriend wanted to watch them, I told her I'd allow her watching 2 and 3, but not 1. She kept insisting, so instead of allowing her to see the full attrocity, I instead downloaded the Phantom Edit. With half of the movie cut out (all the worst scenes, of course), minimum Jar Jar, etc. Even with all the worst parts gone, she still groaned through half the movie, and decided at the end that "this movie sucks"
As for Mara Jade, totally one of the best character EVAR... However, I cannot give her sole reign over that title. Sorry. She's tied with other badasses (I mean, Batman for one? C'mon!)

The new movie is gonna be a motw kinda thing, which is intriguing, to say teh least, but I won't start complaining if teh gods have decided to bestow a new xf movie on me and it is without any mythology crap to boot.
And from what Spotnitz said in his blog, it is gonna be a sequel, picking up after "The Truth".
Maybe they're living their quiet life as Rob and Laura Petrie somewhere and just stumble into some crazy paranormal shit, rekindling their old xf mojo?
The more I think about that idea, teh more I like it, but July will tell. (Or probably February/march, when the trailer arrives!!!
