Your amazing work has been featured in the Abstract Painting Journal! [link]
(Yes, it was quite long ago, but I decided this was most courteous! )
Enjoy!

Hi richardanthony,
I'm glad to have favouriteβd your work' untitled 1'. It really calls out to be faved. I just love the colour and positioning of each block of shape. The eye is drawn along the red dash, travelling the complete piece flowingly.
I don't know if you are aware of the fact, but I'm doing a study at college on how people decide they like or dislike a piece of art. At the top of my page I had a statement outlining the study, I don't know if you saw it.
I've just been reported to the staff here on DeviantART by an artist for intellectual property infringement, and was very saddened and shocked by this. I wish to fully inform all those whoβs work I favβd.
I just want to let you know that no infringement of your intellectual property was intended, or will occur at any time during my study, and that if you want to withdraw at any time, please let me know. No profit is or will be made, and all images are used under the fair uses rationale (low resolution image only, all credit to the artist, academic purposes only, etc). I'm not printing the works at all, I'm only displaying them on a computer screen for a few seconds, and that's it.
If I'm not banned, I plan to continue posting updates of my study, and the final findings in or around March.
I hope that you feel positive, feel fully informed, and would like to take part. If you have any further questions, please contact me, and I will be only too happy to clear anything up, or just have a chat about it, art, or anything else.

Hey Richard,
Really enjoy your work. I never know what to say on here, it's more than just 'I like it', some of it seems to speak to me and I take it in on deeper level. Great stuff.

Hey dood, when you paint on paper, don't you find it causes the paper to curl up alot?

haha I agree. I was shocked when I found out you don't use paintbrushes... after having that mould broken for me, I think I'll be trying some new techniques

not really. true, it does bend a little but i tape the edges to create a border so it gives me slack for matting and it holds the paper down also. i dont ever worry about that.
do you only use canvas?
π: 0 β©: 1
wedgatabo In reply to richardanthony [2007-09-27 14:30:40 +0000 UTC]
No, for most of my works I build a plywood base, then I use wood filler or drywall mud to fill in the texture and finally I coat it with cartridge paper (it's a really then cheap paper you can get a art stores). I've tried a few little things on paper and found that it curls alot.. it might be because I usually try water colors on paper and I use alot of water...
When I build the plywood base, I had 1x2s or 2x2s on the back to give it depth.. then it gives it the canvas look without being canvas.
I find canvas to be really restricting since I like to glue and paint things into my work.

I think its really awesome how people end up creating their own personal ways to go about making new stuff.
thats very cool. very inventive.

I have a lot of work that I have never put up because it's too big for my scanner. I'll try and fix that though so hopefully, I'll have most of those works up soon.
thanks.

Just get a digital camera and a tripod... that always works for me. How big is your scanner?

richardanthony In reply to wedgatabo [2007-09-27 20:33:00 +0000 UTC]
hmm, I dont know exactly but its just bigger than a sheet of notebook paper. not big.
the problem I have with taking pictures is the lighting. sometimes I have too much and it creates a glare or just not enough light at all.

I have had problems with this too... so far I have just been using late morning / early afternoon natural lighting in my house... it works OK.
The ideal way to do it would be to get two lamps, position them at equal distances from the work at a 45 degree angle pointing towards the work from either side... i just can't justify spending the money on identical lamps and i don't have any space to do this kind of thing anyway. it's actually kind of frustrating...

Hi!
I think your work is beautiful. Your color choices are simple but extremely pleasing to the eye and the soul.
I also like your front page photo. It's nice to have a bit of a look into someone else's studio; it looks cozy in there!
