Hey! Thank you so much for sharing WIP's over on your website, it really shows how much work goes into your sculptures, and I really appreciate the inspiration and ideas. I love the pantyhose like fabric you use for wings, I wonder if I could use something similar for poseable dolls~ And your Ka Pelemaka, the way you made the fire wings is so ingenious! It looks like fun too, I'd love to do more with plastics.

Thank you ^^

I have been experimenting before with poseable dolls and wings. I think a very stratchy fabric or 40DEN stockings would do. but not the lower DEN ones because those tear easily.

Where’s the FAQ?? Like what do you make your sculptures out of?? I’ve looked everywhere on DA and your website. :’ ) And has no luck finding the FaQ (found you on tumblr and was mesmerized by this Dino with feathers and had to know how you did it!) I make sculptures out polymer clay and hope to become better! I really like sculpting :’ )
I’ll be your Protégé! XD
I’ll most definitely share what you’ve got going on here with my friends : ))

rivalmit In reply to Bro-chaan [2018-01-24 08:36:41 +0000 UTC]

Thank you for the compliments but I do not have the FAQ

As for the clay I use many different materials: Cold porcelain clay, paper mache, DAS, Polimer clays, etc.. they all have their own pros and cons
What you might be interested in is Velvet clay though. Out of all of them this one alows very fine details and when dry remains flexible so there is far less chance of damage of delicate detail.
Try it out. It's an air dry clay

Bro-chaan In reply to rivalmit [2018-01-27 15:53:45 +0000 UTC]

Of course! You deserve the praise! XD
Dang, I think you should have a “ frequently asked questions”, maybe someday.

Whaaaaahhhh— that’s so much more material than I thought! And they all work together some how— that’s amazing!!
So try velvet clay?? I mean, I could try it out.

rivalmit In reply to Bro-chaan [2018-01-30 19:39:48 +0000 UTC]

thank you
I mostly get one or two repeating questions though. So that list would not be long XD

I sometimes mix them sometimes don't, depending on what I need and feel like working with.
I think you'll like it and I use it often ^^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Bro-chaan In reply to rivalmit [2018-01-31 01:38:01 +0000 UTC]

No prob! : ))
It’d be one of the shortest lists for sure
XD maybe tips?? Do you have that??

GOSH, like, is there anything else I should know about the clay though? And what cealer do you use?? Like so nothing falls off

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

rivalmit In reply to Bro-chaan [2018-02-03 09:30:39 +0000 UTC]

indeed it would be
Hmm I only did those amongst the comments or PMs usually if someone asked. Never did any tuttorial before

nope. nothing that I can think of, it's pretty easy to use. you just have to keep it moist enough ^^ and I use no cealer

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Bro-chaan In reply to rivalmit [2018-02-12 00:57:24 +0000 UTC]

Ohhh, well, I guess that good then!
Oh, a tutorial is just an idea xD

It’s water based right? Okay, so let’s say I let it dry
If I were to wet it again, would it fall apart?
WHAT? You use no CEALER?? how does your stuff not fall apart or like so the pair doesn’t come off!??

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

rivalmit In reply to Bro-chaan [2018-02-13 08:49:18 +0000 UTC]

Perhaps one day I'll do them ^^

yep, it would melt right back in to mush
Okay now I'm not sure if I'm translatin the word cealer correctly XD it's like varnish?
They clay sticks to itself just fine so any aditional protective coat is not necesarry. And appart from providing small protection to the surface or the paint job I don't think a cealer would do much of a job holding parts together ^^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Bro-chaan In reply to rivalmit [2018-03-10 16:54:13 +0000 UTC]

Alright!

I— uhhh, guess?? What’s a varnish?

Well, alright, so have you used paper clay or air dry clay? Because I was thinking of working with that. I’ve looked up how long it takes to dry but I keep getting different answers, can you help a bro out?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

rivalmit In reply to Bro-chaan [2018-03-14 21:54:37 +0000 UTC]

varnish is a protective layer for various surfacess. like a final coat over things for protection. I assume it's the same as cealer?

I did. I actually preffer them to avoid the baking process XD
It really depends on the type of clay, the amount of water it contains and the thickness of the layer AND the humidity or warmth of the environment you're working in... so yeah it's hard to say, you'd have to experiment ^^ but generally let's say you are  working with layers that are not more than 1cm in thickness then most air dry clays should be fully dry in 24 hours. Thicker things can take a little longer and certain clays will be dry sooner. depends ^^

Bro-chaan In reply to rivalmit [2018-03-18 01:22:15 +0000 UTC]

yeah, okay. That's cool!

ooo, DAmn SO many factors! I'm not gonna lie-- the baking process is my least fave part.
Dang, I could definitely give it a shot and see what works.
THANK you for the example! that really helped me out :' )
Dang, it takes awhile before it actually dry completely. Are you sure baking isn't wor-- well, I can see why it's better. a;sldkjf
I guess I can be a lil impatient sometimes ^^'

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

rivalmit In reply to Bro-chaan [2018-03-19 06:55:43 +0000 UTC]

there's just no way around it other than trying ^^

I didn't say, it's not worth it. I'm saying *I* find the baking process too bothersome to bother on a regular basis. Polimer clays have their advatages like alowing you work in bulk while air dry needs to be worked in layers, and limited time is not an issue like with air dry clays.
Despite that I still preffer to work with air dry clays. Just depends what you yourself find best works for you
Glad I could help some though

Bro-chaan In reply to rivalmit [2018-04-21 05:42:43 +0000 UTC]

So, it takes 24 hours to dry, then you add more clay. It feels like it’d take longer. But I’ve seen the final product, so I’d say it’s worth it.

Thank you for helping me out tho : ))
