Yeah, I had my account for years before I started uploading stuff, lol!  I have been on a very long haitus, although I still do draw.  The problem is, I lost all my means of getting said drawings onto the computer for color and such.  Also I've been intending to learn tablet but kinda gotta get time for that, lol!

Maaan, it's been months since I did anything of the sort. :/ I feel like I might have even lost some skills I gained because of this long ass hiatus, but what can ya do, y'know?  Anyway, one day maybe I'll get back on my feet and have a full set of art tools at the ready.  If I had the time, I would be more active at least.  Ah well...

I'm in the humble trade that is health care. I work as a CNA at an assisted living place. I love my job but it can be exhausting! Plus, I think I'm catching something so I'm not feeling the greatest but hopefully it will pass quickly. How about you?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lemontea In reply to selfaffliction [2015-10-24 05:05:47 +0000 UTC]

That's an awesome trade! Helping people is no joke, and I respect people in the healthcare industry highly because of it. I'm sure you probably work some pretty rough hours too!

I'm a nuclear engineering laboratory technician on a fast attack submarine. I handle the chemistry and radiological controls for the reactor plant.

selfaffliction In reply to lemontea [2015-10-25 02:23:22 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! I was quite surprised at how much I really enjoy taking care of people.  I have been debating going for nursing, and this job seems to have really pushed me in that direction for sure!  It might really be something I'll enjoy doing.  I have also been considering volunteer firefighter work in my down time, which at this point in my life, I have far too much of.   I really don't mind long hours, it keeps me busy, honestly.

Ah! You're a navy guy! That's neat.  Submarine life is rough! And nuclear engineering is nothing to sneeze at!  You are literally a rocket scientist. XD Fast attacks are the 3 months out, 3 months ashore, right?  I take it from your 'aloha' greeting, you're stationed in Pearl Harbor?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lemontea In reply to selfaffliction [2015-10-25 02:27:20 +0000 UTC]

Definitely, that sounds like a good fit for you then. As for the firefighting, I was thinking about doing that myself. We're trained as firefighters, so it would be easy enough to learn I think.

Ah ha, you know a lot about the Navy it seems. Submarine life is rough, and strange, but kind of cool. That's the boomers though, they're the 3 month rotation with the nukes on them. We're the 6+ month deployed ones, out to sea every few weeks kind of guys. And yes, stationed in Pearl Harbor. You're a crafty one! Gotta watch out for people who can think!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

selfaffliction In reply to lemontea [2015-10-25 02:44:02 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I never considered firefighting before but I've been recently drawn to trying my hand at it.  I gotta hit up the gym a bit more and build a little muscle.  XD  I really should have considered the military awhile ago, but I suppose it's a bit too late now.

Oh! I didn't mean to creep you out.  I'm not really that clever, I just happen to know things due to crazy circumstances that surround my unpredictable life.  6+ months... that's definitely hardcore.  I don't envy you dude! It's good if you can find things you enjoy about it though!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lemontea In reply to selfaffliction [2015-10-25 02:48:43 +0000 UTC]

Hah, yeah, it's all about upper body strength. And staying hydrated. I went to the last fire trainer a bit hung over and I thought I was going to pass out. Hah.

Too late for the military? They're pretty accepting hah.

Ha, you didn't creep me out. But most people don't really put things together. Like, at all. Our last deployment was 7 months. I was going a bit crazy by the end of that. Haha.

I enjoy the fact that my boat is in the shipyard, so I can do paperwork instead of be under water. Haha.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

selfaffliction In reply to lemontea [2015-10-25 03:01:02 +0000 UTC]

That's what been told!  Upper body strength!  Haha, being hung over while doing anything physically taxing would suck.  XD Last time I was hung over while working, I was a housekeeper, and man... that was not a fun day!

Yeah I'm 28 and the cutoff age for all the good jobs is like 25 I think?  I've wasted a lot of years of my life doing nothing, but it was a learning experience, I suppose.

I was told once that I wasn't very smart, so I guess it's kind of odd being considered clever just for making an observation?  XD;  Damn, 7 months?  That's crazy!  How do you NOT lose your mind?  I don't know if I could do it, honestly.  |D

Yes, being in the drydoc for awhile is pretty nice.  Them things do need a lot of maintenance, especially the older they are.  It's a scary thought, yet very fascinating and awesome all that can be accomplished through human engineering and technology!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lemontea In reply to selfaffliction [2015-10-25 03:16:32 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I was not in a good way. Sadly, everyone drinks in the Navy so I followed haha.

There is a cutoff age, but you can file a waiver and do anything. Especially things like nuclear engineering, which are critically undermanned. We had a 40 year old dude doing it. I wasted my time in college, that much is certain. This is a better deal by far.

Well, you seem smart enough to hold a conversation and think. That's better than most of the world.

You do start to lose your mind, to be honest. You're in this strange groundhog's day state of mind. We can't communicate with anyone for a LONG time, sometimes months or more. You just miss the rest of the world and disappear. It's better in the surface fleet, as they have Facebook and Skype. I did bring a Macbook Air with 4Tb of movies and TV shows, so that helped. But, I would generally only get to sleep 5 or 6 hours a night, and trying to use that time to watch a movie means you get 3 or 4 hours instead. And even then, there could be a drill and you'll have to wake up and go respond regardless.

The amount of maintenance we do is staggering. It's hard to comprehend how much we rip apart and inspect things. And clean. And paint. It's a marvel. Sometimes it's hard to believe we as hairless monkeys did this.

selfaffliction In reply to lemontea [2015-10-30 20:50:48 +0000 UTC]

Sorry for the wait on a reply, it's been a crazy week!

Anyway, yeah, I suppose I could still sign up if I really wanted, but I still want to see what else I can do first before heading in that direction.

Eh, drinking happens wherever you go.  Not to condone over indulgence, but it's not too bad to have a beer every once in a while, in my personal opinion.

I'm about as smart as a donkey on caffeine, honestly. XD But thank you!  That's nice of you to say so!

I don't doubt the state of mind you go through being out at sea for months on end, not to mention taking on 18 hour days, which is ridiculous.  The groundhog day sort of mindset is the same for the people waiting for you back home too.  Time stands still, especially if they're alone somewhere, far away from friends and family in a new place they've never been before.  Sure, it may not be that they're miles underwater in a tiny tin can with no room to sneeze, but it's still difficult and requires a special sort of hardiness to endure as well.  You live off those emails you get from communications... they keep you alive, whether you're the sailor under water, or the significant other waiting ashore.  Hah, I could write novels about it.

It IS all freakin maintenance!  So much!  I suppose that's to be expected of such a complex vessel though.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lemontea In reply to selfaffliction [2015-11-05 02:53:20 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, you still have time. Gotta do what's right for yourself, after all.

Well, most submariners probably over indulge, but it goes with the turf, even if the Navy is trying to get rid of that image.

And no, just honest. You seem better than most donkeys. Haha.

It is a time warp too -- the news you get is so few and far between that you might as well be in another dimension for a while. I know it's not easy on anyone, especially people with kids.

It definitely does make a huge difference just to get a tiny e-mail in. I re-read some of the e-mails I got sent hundreds of times.

There are a ton of systems, and no one person knows all of them, so having a broad mixture of people with different training backgrounds and mindsets brings a lot to the table. I ended up getting a Navy achievement medal, see here: i.imgur.com/WPSTEXS.jpg , after deployment for conducting some mission critical maintenance, so that was cool.

selfaffliction In reply to lemontea [2015-11-06 03:36:23 +0000 UTC]

Indeed!  At the moment, time is what I have an abundance of.  It will run out someday though, so it's best to still not waste it~

They say that about college students too.  XD Too much alcohol!  Yeah, 'drunken sailor' is kind of a thing, I suppose.  I guess I would say do what you feel is right.  If you know your limits, stick to them and stay away from peer pressure situations that you can't back out of.  Blah blah, sorry if I get preachy. XD  I ain't no innocent, honestly, but I like to think I am a bit wiser than I was.   Eh, who can really tell?

Time stands still for you, and seems endless and eternal for the ones ashore, so yeah.... It is tough.  I would imagine having kids would be a good distraction though (for the people ashore mostly), personally, but I wouldn't know in any case.  |D

Those emails can make your whole day, or week.  Hey, if you need an extra voice or boring old donkey to ramble to while you're underway, I can send you e-mails if you like.  Not to be weird or anything. XD Like a pen pal or something! I could send you news or whatever.  *shrug* It's up to you.

That's pretty awesome!  Congrats!  I have heard of some of the crazy things that happen to you guys out there, so I understand more than you know. XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lemontea In reply to selfaffliction [2015-11-07 03:17:32 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, when you have time, try to make the most of it. Otherwise, it all feels like a waste.

Well, as a college student I was a frat guy, so I don't think it was that much better then either. Hah. And no worries. I have to give this same speech to the guys junior to me very often. I was thinking by the time I was 30 I should have life figured out, but I'm not so sure now.

I only have my perspective out to sea. The only thing I looked forward to was either sleeping or burgers on Saturdays. Then when a port call was coming up, we'd all count the days, and then inevitably get told we will be out for longer than expected.

I would definitely take you up on the pen pal offer, but I'm not going back to sea for the rest of my career (hopefully!). So this works here just fine, but if you ever wanted to, I am kind of hit and miss when it comes to dA. Sometimes I disappear for a year at a time. So, I usually keep up with people via texting, if that's any easier.

selfaffliction In reply to lemontea [2015-11-23 19:06:30 +0000 UTC]

Hello!  Sorry again for the suuuuuper late reply.  Limited internet, etc etc.  Happy LATE Veterans Day and Happy EARLY Thanksgiving! XD

Hey man, I'm 28 and going nowhere atm.  No kids, no career, no significant other, etc.  I guess I got to get on the ball eventually, but everyone keeps telling me there's no rush so eh.  I will get to things when I get to things I guess.  I don't think anyone has life figured out, even when they get into their golden age.  I heard somewhere that if you think the prime of your life has already passed, you're doing it wrong.  Makes sense in a way.

I can honestly imagine, and from what I've been told, it would be maddening.  You have to hold onto something to keep sane, I'm sure.  So are you going shore duty or are you getting out of the Navy (I don't recall if you told me this already, sorry!)?  I'm certainly hit or miss when it comes to dA as well, as you can probably tell, but I do get on eventually.  Texting is always the easiest way to get ahold of me as well, but I'd have to know a little more about you before I give you my number. XD Take no offense, it's just my personal rule.  Learned the hard way, of course.

Life has had many lessons to teach me, but I am far from learned still.  XD

lemontea In reply to selfaffliction [2015-11-29 21:12:46 +0000 UTC]

It's all good! I'm a little late too! So thank you for both. I hope you had a nice Thanksgiving!

There's no rush, but being happy with your life is important too. So if those things meet any of the wickets, then I guess you'll have to keep pushing. I agree though. Life is short, but you still have plenty of time to do the things you want to do.

I'm currently on a sea duty, but after my shoulder injury, I work as if I'm on a shore duty. After my sea duty is up though, I'm getting out and trying to do radiological work somewhere else.

It's all good. I didn't mean to creep! I'm not really a very good creeper/stalker anyways since I can't even reply to you in a timely manner. Haha.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

selfaffliction In reply to lemontea [2015-12-17 07:55:09 +0000 UTC]

LATE! I invented late~ XD  I did have a nice thanksgiving, thank you!  I hope yours went well as well!  Also Merry EARLY Christmas!  I will probably get on before then but even so, in case I don't catch you, you can't say I never said Merry Christmas! LOL

Rush no, restlessness, yes.  I feel very restless and battling depression doesn't help because I am told daily by my own brain that I have no purpose in life.  My logical side says OH WELL, I'M HERE ANYWAY, SO GET OFF ME CUZ I INTEND TO LIVE UNTIL I'M GIVEN MY TICKET TO PARADISE.  ...so to speak.    Yes, there will always be things to do!  On a side note, I can never have enough friends, so I will probably pester you every time I see you here, at least until you get sick of me. XD

Woot for getting out of the Navy!  It's rough, man.  Will you be coming back to the main states?  Which one are you originally from, if you don't mind my asking?

Pffft, I could out creep/stalker anyone. :T Sad truth.  I didn't mean to imply you were one of those! I just gotta stick to my own policy for it to do any good.  Standard procedures, etc etc.  I'm like that even with people I know in person.  When life has smacked you upside the head a few times too many, you learn to wear a helmet.  I prefer one that matches my straight jacket!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lemontea In reply to selfaffliction [2015-12-19 01:03:16 +0000 UTC]

I'll do my best to keep up the lateness too. And Merry early Christmas to you as well! Hah

I think that's a normal thing. I know I have a purpose and I can see tangible results in my life, but I still wonder what the point is a lot of the time. People are good at wondering.

I won't get sick of you! I always like a good conversation. Feel free to note me or message me here, whatever is best. And whenever you feel like texting let me know hah.

I plan to come back to the States, but I'll go where the money is so who knows where I may end up. I'm from Texas originally, so I'd like to go back that way if I could.

Eh, you don't seem creepy. Actually, can pretty girls be creepy? I just think it makes them weird hot, which is a separate category.
