I doubt you will see this but I really want to use one of your pieces for a tee shirt. I only want to use it to make one single tee shirt but I know I can’t make it without getting your permission. So I ask you please may I use your schoolyard heroes image for a gift for someone that loves them? Please!!!!

You got a few neat monochromes! I sent you an invite for the Alien one for a new group I've made. Hope you accept, we have a great Predator in our gallery, it'd be a shame if we didn't have an Alien to match

Really? That'd be pretty cool. Just that print or what?

Its really supprising I've had about 4 or 5 people wanting copies of that run of skeleton prints at my art college too!

UselessDictionary [2007-02-23 23:58:02 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. The colours just seemed a little OTT to me. But then I have about 35 colour combonations of that skeleton screen print so I had a few favs.

Thanks for the comment

Ahhhhh, you're one of thooooose. I was in a Fine Art department and all of the graphic designers were constantly taking printmaking classes. They wouldn't pay the lab fees for FA materials, though, so our budget was too small to accomadate them and all of our supplies would be gone when FA students needed them. I understand completely. The Printmaking head was a total dick to all of the graphic designers, unfortunately. They were usually better printmakers than half of the FA students. Heh.

I have to say, though, screenprinting is - luckily - one of the VERY few printing processes that you can do just about anywhere.

However, I can't say I've ever heard of anyone using housepaint to do it. I would think that would destroy your screen... And doesn't housepaint degrade the surface you use it on in over short peried of time?

shanelong In reply to ARutzen [2006-07-10 05:03:38 +0000 UTC]

nah housepaint is fine in the screen, as long as you mix in some flotrol to keep it from drying in the screen.

I havnt heard anything about housepaint being corrosive, you would think it would be just the opposite since its made to basically protect your hosue from the elements...I guess we'll find out, the first poster we used the housepaint on is about 2 months old. We shall see...

Another tidbit for you, for my thesis I did a TON of printing on fabric. I found that if you go to Walmart, you can buy a LOT more fabric (tons of different colors and types) for the same price that you would pay for one sheet of really nice printing paper. It can also be stretched like a painted canvas later which gives it something stronger visually. I don't know if you could do something like that for posters, but it's another penny pincher I came across. The effect of printing ink on fabric is really beautiful, as well.

ARutzen [2006-07-08 18:20:56 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I fell off the planet for almost two years. Especially in my senior year. If anyone wanted to find me, I was in the printmaking studio. I became a monitor in my senior year, so then I had a key. Ha-hah! I practically never left.

Do you have to pay for your inks at your school or are they supplied? We had them supplied for a semester and then had to fend for ourselves after that. We used the acrylic-based stuff. It worked out nice because Golden makes a screen-print medium that you just add your acrylic paint to and you can stretch out everything a little farther. One way to pinch pennies, but still get any color you could imagine.

I really really enjoy the cleanliness and clarity of your prints. My senior thesis in college was all screenprints. Good times. It's a great medium and you use it well.

I lied. My thesis wasn't all screenprints, but much of it was.
