Hi Charlotte,
Thank you for your question on Capsicums and crystal.
My technique is simple. I first do a highly detailed pencil drawing of the still life. This gives me all the information I need to know about what is happening.
Then I trace down the drawing, just the outlines to show me where everything is, on to the canvas. Then I paint what I see, using colour mixed on the pallette, exactly like the subject. I paint with small strokes, blending the colours smoothly. I only paint exactly what I can see. I do hope this helps.
