Oh, ok... in Photoshop huh?

are you using Layers, Masks and Channels?

You can do a lot of nice stuff using those tools.

Channels can be applied by making selections and saving as new channel, then creating a mask which you can select and work on individually. In Layers you can add highlights and blends to them using your selections.

I plan on toying with that myself when I get some characters done.

Hi, saw your post about watercolors.

There's different techniques in coloring in watercolors.

They can be very abstract and soft, so if you're looking for something fluid, you can really let go on them.

Like most mediums such as watercolors, start light washes first, and get the watercolor paper stapled down to a board. Then taking a brush, water it down. This will make the paper nice and tight and ready for color.

Of course, have a good drawing on the paper. Every piece of art starts with a good drawing. :-D

I like Gouche watercolor paints my self, they're more opaque.

I can tell more if you're interested.

Peace,
