fair enough, then i start from something simple.

I know that DA has many good tutorials but is there any you suggest/ prefer ?

Also when you make something , do you use reference and how heavily you rely on them ?

I am of course open to any advice as I just started doing 2d.

As for tutorials, what kind of art are you into?

Whenever I make something it is usually always inspired by some other work I have seen around on DA. That is the best kind of inspiration. Just look around in the galleries at the kind of art you are into and get inspired.

Well I , like you, am a sucker for Sci fi ...

I love mette painting (painting environment) but also characters . So I would say a general style. I am also into fantasy.

Inspiration-wise , I do not need any, I have many projects in my head at the moment and very vivid imagination.

The only issues is that I am clueless at how should I paint. That is why I asked you if you use reference to understand color variation , shading etc.

At the moment I am deep into several tutorials, and I know that is all, practise... practise... practice...

And I know that I just started yesterday so it may take several years before I reach a satisfying level of skill.

The only reason why I asked your advice is because I wanted some direction or some golden rules, that will push me to the right direction. Small things that can save me time. That's all.

Hmm well you are definatly on the right track. One thing that was and still is a big issue for me is not looking at so many tutorials and to just paint. Nothing is better practice than just painting, no matter what it is.

People just paint 1 painting a day and post them. There are all different skill ranges and always people to help out. Plus if you do paint one painting a day, your skill will greatly improve.

Thanks for going all this trouble for the link.

I am already a member of conceptart so I will be posting there.

That was my idea actually, to do speedpaintings of 1 hour each to learn the basics for at least a year. And afterall I prefer doing speed paintings.

I will certainly check out all the tutorials , one of them I have already watched as I do also search through DA for tutorials. Yours are more than enough to get me started.

I downloaded the brush set, seems very useful as well.
