Hollowandheartless had a bitchfit and blocked me, so I'll respond here.

Under most circumstances, SCP-049 is docile. He's been recorded to only attack a select few people, while being able to chat idly with the doctors at certain points. What causes him to pick his targets is unknown, but he refers to them as being infected with the plague (indeed they are infected with it when he touches them)

Being chased by him would be an unlikely scenario, as he's under guard most of the time. However, as he is a contact killer, self defense would be merely keeping your distance. However, you don't "attack" an SCP, you contain it or terminate it. As 049 shows no ill will against the foundation or its containment, as well as the scientific discoveries that could be gained by researching it, termination is unnecessary.
