Sleep paralysis happens when people become conscious while their muscles remain in the ultra-relaxed state that prevents them from acting out their dreams. The experience can be quite terrifying, with many people hallucinating a malevolent presence nearby, or even an attacker suffocating them. Surveys put the number of sleep paralysis sufferers between about 5 percent and 60 percent of the population.

Ask Him to test you and make you into what He wants you to be. Your best is made perfect through His tests of your spirit and will refine you into a pure offering to Him in the end. We are called to offer a more pure offering and it is only reached when we are able to give Him our all to work with and to test and refine in the trials He leads you though. Though you go through trials know that you never walk alone....for He is always with you. Why would He leave the child He loves? That He would never do! He is a loving Father first and able to correct and lead and love His children every step of the way

He wants more of a Spiritual Offering from our hearts to Him. He wants us to Seek Him personally each and everyday in all that we do. We need to Seek Him and to keep searching His word for a greater understanding of His will. Those that Seek Him will find Him. To Seek Him more is to have Him in our life more abundantly. He wants us to know Him like He already knows each of us. Hold nothing back and give all to Him freely and with a joyful heart.

Shock, Anger, & Fear: Here’s the International Reaction to Cyprus’ Shock Tax on Bank Deposits

Mar. 17, 2013 9:55pm

[link]

The world was stunned on Saturday when Cyprus announced that it planned to levy a harsh one-time tax on bank deposits as part of a bailout agreement with its European partners and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Nervous depositors rushed to ATM machines to drain their accounts only to find that the banks had already sealed off either 6.75% or 9.9%, depending on whether they had more or less than €100,000 in the account.

The Cypriot bailout follows those for Greece, Portugal, Ireland and the Spanish banking sector, but it’s the first that dips into people’s savings to finance a bailout. Analysts worry the move could roil international markets and jeopardize Europe’s fragile economies.

Reuters reports that lawmakers are working to soften the blow for those with less money in the bank, changing the rates from 6.75 percent and 9.9 percent to 3.0 percent and 12.5 percent, respectively.

Radio-frequency identification (RFID) is the use of a wireless non-contact system that uses radio-frequency electromagnetic fields to transfer data from a tag attached to an object, for the purposes of automatic identification and tracking. Some tags require no battery and are powered and read at short ranges via magnetic fields (electromagnetic induction). Others use a local power source and emit radio waves (electromagnetic radiation at radio frequencies). The tag contains electronically stored information which may be read from up to several meters away. Unlike a bar code, the tag does not need to be within line of sight of the reader and may be embedded in the tracked object.

RFID tags are used in many industries. An RFID tag attached to an automobile during production can be used to track its progress through the assembly line. Pharmaceuticals can be tracked through warehouses. Livestock and pets may have tags injected, allowing positive identification of the animal.

Since RFID tags can be attached to clothing, possessions, or even implanted within people, the possibility of reading personally-linked information without consent has raised privacy concerns

Lindsey Graham’s Gun-Related Bill Wants to Track the Mentally Ill — but Who Counts?

Mar. 18, 2013 10:23am

[link]

Graham’s proposal would require that people found mentally incompetent be added to the National Instant Criminal Background System – the database for all new gun sales.

Graham and his allies see restrictions on assault weapons as overly broad, and also an attack on what amounts to an artificial category of weapons. However, many advocates for the rights of the mentally ill might reasonably worry about how broad the ban on gun ownership would be in the case of Graham’s bill. Just who counts as mentally ill?

The answer is that the bill defers to the court system to make the ultimate determination, though it does specify that only people found to be a danger to themselves or others, or incompetent to stand trial, or not guilty by reason of mental insanity, or in need of commitment to a psychiatric hospital, or in need of mandatory outpatient treatment, would qualify to be banned from owning guns.

•This led British politicians to discuss new press regulations and implementation of recommendations made by Lord Justice Brian Leveson, who led the 2011 inquiry into the scandal.
•Free speech advocates feared new press regulations would stifle freedom of the press.
•Ahead of a deal struck Monday, three large newspaper groups threatened to boycott the government and create their own regulatory body.
•A compromise Monday has politicians saying the deal protects both press freedom and the rights of individuals.
•But it has still been called a “sad day for press freedom in the UK.”

Palestinian Activists Tear Down Obama Billboard to Protest… Lack of 3G Cellphone Technology?

Mar. 18, 2013 4:25pm

[link]

TheBlaze previously reported that President Barack Obama has planned to forgo an extended tour of an Iron Dome field unit during his upcoming trip to Israel to instead make a stop in Palestinian-controlled Bethlehem. Locals seem none-too-pleased, however, as activists converged on Bethlehem’s Manger Square Monday to tear down, trample and set fire to a billboard of the U.S. president as they chanted: “America is the head of the snake.”

The protesters also threw shoes at American diplomatic vehicles arriving in preparation of Obama’s visit.

The reason, according to Ma’an News Agency, is to showcase the plight of Palestinians who have allegedly “been deprived of the right to have 3G telecommunication technology because they compete with Israeli companies.”

What’s more, the activists apparently believe that the lack of 3G coverage constitutes “cruel, inhuman degrading punishment” as, after ripping down the Obama billboard, they replaced it with one of their own reading a statement to this very effect.

The activists’ banner read: “No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman degrading treatment or punishment.”

Counter-intuitively, one protester said that he actually does not want 3G technology to come to the area.

“We came here today to tell Obama that we don’t want 3G in Palestine,” said Samir Odeh, a Fatah activist in Bethlehem. “We want a state, the release of prisoners and an end to settlement construction. We also want to see our refugees return to their homes.”

Eurozone Country: Surprise! We’re Putting at Least a 6.75% Tax on Your Bank Deposits

[link]

Mar. 16, 2013 10:12pm

People with bank accounts in Cyprus were shocked Saturday to learn that as part of an agreement reached with international creditors, the government has imposed a tax on all deposits to help bail out the nation and its banks.

While the island nation may be small, it’s an international favorite for offshore banking– particularly for wealthy Russians. The tax will range from 6.75% to 9.9%, depending on how much is in the account.

“This is a clear-cut robbery,” Andreas Moyseos, a former electrician who is now a pensioner in Nicosia, told the New York Times. Iliana Andreadakis, a book critic, further added: “This issue doesn’t only affect the people’s deposits, but also the prospect of the Cyprus economy. The E.U. has diminished its credibility.”

And indeed, following the massive run on banks in Cyprus, many are concerned that a minor panic could spread to the rest of the Eurozone. After all, it has just set a precedent for taxing private bank accounts at exorbitant rates without warning.

But first, here’s a little more background on the plan via the Associated Press:

As one of 17 nations that use the euro currency, Cyprus can to raise or lower taxes whenever it wants. Early Saturday, it secured a (EURO)10 billion ($13 billion) bailout from its European partners and the International Monetary Fund to save the banking sector and avoid bankruptcy. In return, the island nation has imposed the new tax, among other moves.

Banks have already acted to seal off the amount of the levy – a 6.75 percent tax on deposits under 100,000 euro and 9.9 percent on those above – so depositors can’t access it. Bank customers still can draw on the rest of their funds via ATM machines this weekend, although banks that usually open on Saturdays had limited hours and many said they were out of cash by the end of the day. No international transfers will be able to go through until Tuesday, since Monday is a holiday. Cyprus’ parliament is expected to meet Sunday to pass the required legislation. The deal also needs the approval of several eurozone parliaments; it’s unclear how fast they can act and what will happen to bank deposits in the meantime. [Emphasis added]

The really shocking aspect of the policy is that it targets “ordinary savers,” in the words of the New York Times. In the past, banks and shareholders have been forced to take losses, but the average person’s bank account was left relatively untouched. Italy once imposed a .06 percent tax on every bank account, but the rate was miniscule compared to what those in Cyprus are being asked to contribute.

European officials are promising that Cyprus is a unique case and that the same tactic won’t be used elsewhere, but not everyone is convinced.

“…this is a unique situation. Just like the Greek bailout was unique; just like the Irish and Portuguese bailouts were unique; just like the bailout of Spanish banks was unique…” ZeroHedge wrote, noting that the problem never seems to get fixed.

ZeroHedge concludes its article with pointed criticism for the policy and a warning for the rest of Europe:

Congratulations Cyprus savers – you were just betrayed by both your politicians, and by Europe – sorry, but you are the “creeping impairments” in the game known as European bankruptcy. And so is anywhere between 6.75% and 9.9% of your money, which you were foolish enough to keep with your banks (where at least you were compensated with a savings yield of… 0%).

More importantly, as of this morning Europe has finally grasped that there is a 6.75% to 9.9% premium to holding physical cash in your mattress rather than having it stored with your local friendly insolvent bank.

Luckily Cyrpus is so “small” what just happened there will never happen anywhere else: after all in Europe nobody has ever heard of “setting an example“. Or so the thinking among Europe’s unthinking political elite goes… [Emphasis modified]

EXCLUSIVE - U.S. to let spy agencies scour Americans' finances

(Reuters) - The Obama administration is drawing up plans to give all U.S. spy agencies full access to a massive database that contains financial data on American citizens and others who bank in the country, according to a Treasury Department document seen by Reuters.

The proposed plan represents a major step by U.S. intelligence agencies to spot and track down terrorist networks and crime syndicates by bringing together financial databanks, criminal records and military intelligence. The plan, which legal experts say is permissible under U.S. law, is nonetheless likely to trigger intense criticism from privacy advocates.

Financial institutions that operate in the United States are required by law to file reports of "suspicious customer activity," such as large money transfers or unusually structured bank accounts, to Treasury's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN).

The Federal Bureau of Investigation already has full access to the database. However, intelligence agencies, such as the Central Intelligence Agency and the National Security Agency, currently have to make case-by-case requests for information to FinCEN.

The Treasury plan would give spy agencies the ability to analyze more raw financial data than they have ever had before, helping them look for patterns that could reveal attack plots or criminal schemes.

The planning document, dated March 4, shows that the proposal is still in its early stages of development, and it is not known when implementation might begin.

Financial institutions file more than 15 million "suspicious activity reports" every year, according to Treasury. Banks, for instance, are required to report all personal cash transactions exceeding $10,000, as well as suspected incidents of money laundering, loan fraud, computer hacking or counterfeiting.

"For these reports to be of value in detecting money laundering, they must be accessible to law enforcement, counter-terrorism agencies, financial regulators, and the intelligence community," said the Treasury planning document.

A Treasury spokesperson said U.S. law permits FinCEN to share information with intelligence agencies to help detect and thwart threats to national security, provided they adhere to safeguards outlined in the Bank Secrecy Act. "Law enforcement and intelligence community members with access to this information are bound by these safeguards," the spokesperson said in a statement.

Some privacy watchdogs expressed concern about the plan when Reuters outlined it to them.

A move like the FinCEN proposal "raises concerns as to whether people could find their information in a file as a potential terrorist suspect without having the appropriate predicate for that and find themselves potentially falsely accused," said Sharon Bradford Franklin, senior counsel for the Rule of Law Program at the Constitution Project, a non-profit watchdog group.

Despite these concerns, legal experts emphasize that this sharing of data is permissible under U.S. law. Specifically, banks' suspicious activity reporting requirements are dictated by a combination of the Bank Secrecy Act and the USA PATRIOT Act, which offer some privacy safeguards.

National security experts also maintain that a robust system for sharing criminal, financial and intelligence data among agencies will improve their ability to identify those who plan attacks on the United States.

"It's a war on money, war on corruption, on politically exposed persons, anti-money laundering, organized crime," said Amit Kumar, who advised the United Nations on Taliban sanctions and is a fellow at the Democratic think tank Center for National Policy.

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

The Treasury document outlines a proposal to link the FinCEN database with a computer network used by U.S. defense and law enforcement agencies to share classified information called the Joint Worldwide Intelligence Communications System.

The plan calls for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence - set up after 9/11 to foster greater collaboration among intelligence agencies - to work with Treasury. The Director of National Intelligence declined to comment.

More than 25,000 financial firms - including banks, securities dealers, casinos, and money and wire transfer agencies - routinely file "suspicious activity reports" to FinCEN. The requirements for filing are so strict that banks often over-report, so they cannot be accused of failing to disclose activity that later proves questionable. This over-reporting raises the possibility that the financial details of ordinary citizens could wind up in the hands of spy agencies.

Stephen Vladeck, a professor at American University's Washington College of Law, said privacy advocates have already been pushing back against the increased data-sharing activities between government agencies that followed the September 11 attacks.

"One of the real pushes from the civil liberties community has been to move away from collection restrictions on the front end and put more limits on what the government can do once it has the information," he said.

Cashless Society: India Implements First Biometric ID Program for all of its 1.2 Billion Residents

Recently, India has launched a nationwide program involving the allocation of a Unique Identification Number (UID) to every single one of its 1.2 billion residents. Each of the numbers will be tied to the biometric data of the recipient using three different forms of information – fingerprints, iris scans, and pictures of the face. All ten digits of the hand will be recorded, and both eyes will be scanned.

The project will be directed by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) under the premise of preventing identity theft and social welfare fraud. India has rather extensive social welfare and safety net programs, ranging from medical support and heating assistance to others aimed at helping the poor. Fraud is a rampant problem in India, especially in relation to these programs due to a preponderance of corrupt politicians and bureaucrats who often stuff welfare rolls with fake names and take the money for themselves.

Yet, although the justification for the billion person database is the increased ability to accurately disperse social welfare benefits, it will not be just the Indian government’s social welfare programs that have access to and utilize the UIDAI. Indeed, even before the program has been completed, major banks, state/local governments, and other institutions are planning to use the UIDAI for identification verification purposes and, of course, payment and accessibility.
A d v e r t i s e m e n t

As Aaron Saenz of the Singularity Hub writes:

Yet the UID is going to be used for much more than social welfare programs. The UIDAI is in discussion with many institutions (banks, local/state governments, etc.) to allow them to use the UID as a means of identity verification. These institutions will pay the UIDAI some fee to cover costs and generate revenue. There seems to be little doubt that once it is established, the UID will become a preferred method (if not the preferred method) of identification in India.

Saenz also sees the eventuality of the UIDAI program becoming a means of payment and accessibility. He continues:

Ultimately, I wouldn’t be surprised if the UID, with its biometric data, could be used as a means of payment (when linked to a bank account), or as an access key to homes and cars. Purchase a meal with your fingerprint and unlock your door with the twinkle in your eye. Similar results could be expected in other nations that adopted biometric identification systems.<

Saenz, and other proponents of the UID (UIDAI), have been diligent in pointing out that the program “is just a number, not an ID card.” However, this claim is debatable. Saenz himself admits that State issued driver’s licenses and identification cards will reference the UID information.

The question then becomes how much of that information will be referenced, and how that will be accomplished? Will the information be included on the card? Will only part of the information be included on the card? Or will the card reference back to the digital UID information to be then reconciled with the information that is present on the card? Although the UID is obviously going to be utilized by other institutions outside of the social welfare programs, no answers to these questions have been provided.

But, in the end, does it really matter if the information is collated into an ID card format if the government already has access to that information digitally? More than likely, a national ID card will appear as a supplement to the database already created by UID. Regardless, the private biometric information has still been taken from the individual. The database is still there.

Indeed, government “officials” have already stated that the database will be used by intelligence agencies for the purpose of monitoring “bank transactions, cellphone purchases and the movements of individuals and groups suspected of fomenting terrorism.” This will be very easy to do since the UID number will be entered anytime an individual “accesses services from government departments, driver’s license offices and hospitals, as well as insurance, telecom, and banking companies.”

Nevertheless, proponents have also touted the fact that, at this point, the UID program is optional. But the program will obviously not be optional for very long. As I have discussed in previous articles, the introduction of a program such as a national ID card, biometric data, or cashless payment technologies is always followed by the program becoming mandatory. The ultimate goal of an all-encompassing cashless surveillance program with no opt-out provisions is always introduced by stealth and the Gradualist Technique.

At first, the program is introduced as a way to speed up transactions, increase efficiency, and provide convenience. Soon, however, governments and businesses begin to transition out of the older methods of payment and identification and focus more on the new technology. Identification using the traditional methods remain as an option, but become viewed as cumbersome. Eventually, the alternative methods are phased out completely and mandates replace what was once a personal choice.

As soon as Indian banks, businesses, and government social service offices begin to require identification using the UID, the ability to remain off the system and lead what passes for a normal life will disappear.

This is exactly the intention with India’s new biometric ID program. In fact, the cashless society is a stated goal of the UID program. CEO of MindTree’s IT Services, the company that was awarded the government contract for development and maintenance of the UID, explained in an interview with ComputerWeekly that the “ID scheme will support a cashless society. He said all vendors will have a biometric reader and citizens can pay for things with a fingerprint scan. Even a bag of rice.”

No doubt, even after such an admission by a man who was instrumental in the development of the program, many who read this article will still dismiss it as a “conspiracy theory.”

Nonetheless, this new monumental data mining effort by the Indian government dovetails with recent efforts in the Western world to develop an electronic surveillance grid capable of tracking, tracing, and recording every single movement and communication of every single citizen within a nation’s borders.

New technologies which are being introduced inside the United States, the UK, and Australia such as vein scanners, biometric employee time and attendance systems, voice recognition devices, and behavior analysis systems are all geared toward Total Information Awareness of every human being on the planet.

Only a totalitarian form of government would desire this information; and only a very determined totalitarian government would actively work toward establishing it. India is only the first nation to openly sweep up its entire national population into such a massive biometric database net. We cannot let our nation be the next.

Pray for the safety and protection of the many children in Syria!

Syria's children shot at, tortured, raped: charity report.

Two million children, it said, face malnutrition, disease, early marriage and severe trauma, becoming innocent victims of a bloody conflict that has already claimed 70,000 lives.

"This is a war where women and children are the biggest casualty," chief executive Justin Forsyth told Reuters during a visit to Lebanon, where 340,000 Syrians have fled.

Forsyth said he met a Syrian refugee boy, 12, who saw his best friend killed outside a bakery. "His friend was shot through the heart. But initially, he thought he was joking because there was no blood. They didn't realize he had been killed until they took his shirt off," he said.

The Save the Children report cited new research carried out among refugee children by Bahcesehir University in Turkey which found that one in three reported having been punched, kicked or shot at.

It said two thirds of children surveyed said that they had been separated from members of their families due to the conflict and a third said they had experienced the death of a close friend or family member.

"All these children tell you these stories in a matter of fact way and then you realize that there are layers and layers of emotional trauma there," said Forsyth.

Triveni Acharya, winner of the 2008 Woman of Peace Award and president of Rescue Foundation told me, “Sex trafficking, or modern day slavery, is not only a criminal justice issue, but a human rights issue. It prevents women the freedom to make their own decisions, which is their fundamental right.” On International Women’s Day – and beyond – we should remember that we can all play a part in combating the sex trafficking that strips women of those rights.

3. Organize and take action

If you see genuine needs that you can help with that are not being covered by existing services, organize a team and a strategy with clear objectives. Your strategy should include partnerships with reputable organizations locally or globally to strengthen and coordinate interventions.

Approaches can include intervening in areas where women are trafficked from, through programs like education and micro-economic development to empower vulnerable populations and help with survivor re-integration. Other approaches can include intervening in areas where women are trafficked to, through services like raising awareness, education, advocacy, housing, counseling, legal assistance, and job training.

Reflect regularly on what is working, what is not working, and why. Build in a feedback system to partner organizations for continual learning, guidance, and accountability.

2. Get involved

There are many organizations that can suggest ways to get involved in the fight against sex trafficking, both globally and locally. But sometimes, an individual’s best help is to be alert and ask questions.

Eldon Fry, campus minister for Messiah College, told me this story: “We met a person at Harrisburg International Airport from the Philippines via Qatar headed for Pittsburgh. It sounded fishy so we intervened, and she was ultimately rescued by Homeland Security. We have stayed connected, and she is receiving support from the Polaris Project and is waiting for trial against her “employer,” who was poised to traffick her.”

Ashley Sheaffer, a faculty member at Messiah College, monitors Craigslist for Harrisburg, Carlisle, and Philadelphia for advertisements that might be associated with trafficking and reports them to partner organizations that work with law enforcement to rescue women who have been trafficked.

These are two examples of people in ordinary communities doing their part in the fight against sex trafficking.

1. Get educated

Contact organizations like Polaris Project or the National Research Consortium for Commercial Sexual Exploitation for more information about trafficking issues in your area, and guidance for what is needed to help.

Learn about the factors that foster vulnerability to trafficking such as poverty, unsafe migration, subcultures of gender discrimination, lack of education, demand, and lack of law enforcement. Investigate reputable organizations like International Justice Mission or GEMS, examine their approaches to combat trafficking, and consider volunteering or supporting their interventions.

3 ways you can combat sex trafficking

International Women’s Day marks a time to celebrate the victories of women’s rights across the world, but it is also a call to act together against sex trafficking – around the world and in the United States.

“I am afraid to go home. My father’s friends used to rape me weekly and said if I told anyone they would bring shame to my family.” This statement was made by a teenage girl I interviewed in India recently as part of my research into rehabilitation processes for survivors of sex trafficking. To escape this abusive home situation, she ran away, and in the process was trafficked from Bangladesh to India. She spent two years in a brothel before being rescued by Rescue Foundation. She was 14 years old.

It is estimated that 27 million slaves are being held worldwide, with the most common form being sexual exploitation of women and girls, according to the US State Department Trafficking in Persons Report for 2012. International Women’s Day marks a time to celebrate the victories of women’s rights across the world, but it is also a call to act together against sex trafficking – around the world and in the United States.

For close to two years, I saw the reality of sex trafficking first hand as I lived in India and worked with an organization that rescued girls from commercial sexual exploitation. When I moved to Harrisburg, Penn. to work at Messiah College, I was surprised to hear that a similar subculture existed in my own backyard. Carlisle, near Harrisburg, is one of the bigger hubs for trafficking in the East Coast of the United States due to a stretch of trucker motels and gas stations off of main highways.

What can be done about this global and complex problem? Here are three key ways that you can make a difference.

Internet freedom showdown looming: US

A number of countries are aggressively trying to control the Internet, a top US diplomat cautioned Thursday, insisting Washington would give no ground when it comes to curbing freedoms on the Web.

"Many Middle Eastern countries, Russia, China and others are I believe going to take an increasingly aggressive stand to try to control the Internet," Alec Ross, the State Department's outgoing senior adviser on innovation, told reporters in Geneva.

The fact that many countries appeared to be investing heavily, "billions and billions of dollars", in next generation surveillance technologies was an indication of their intentions to clamp down on Internet freedoms, Ross warned.

The clamp-down was coming amid a clear shift of power all over the world from governments and other state hierarchies towards citizens and networks of citizens, he said during his last press conference before leaving his government position.

"Anyone who understands power understands that power is not given up willingly," he said, adding that the rush to buy surveillance technology appeared to have really taken off after the Iranian election protests in 2009.

The fear of losing power and control was evident at a UN gathering in Dubai last December, where 89 countries signed a controversial new global treaty on telecom regulations, Ross said, insisting that the US refusal to sign that treaty should be seen as its "refusal to give any ground on Internet freedom."

He said he was "pessimistic" about the chances of the world's nations quickly reaching agreement on what they want the Web to look like going forward.

"When there is a completely different vision for how the Internet should be governed, I believe it will be very difficult to get to the point of resolution on some of these issues," Ross said.

The question, he said, is whether the Web is "going to be one global network, or is it going to be a patchwork of national interests?"

The US, he said, was aggressively working to help ensure Internet freedom around the world and had invested over $100 million over the past four years in projects aimed at helping counter crack-down measures from oppressive regimes.

Among the projects was one aimed at creating new networks when regimes try to strangle bandwidth and shut down mobile networks when they face protests, as was the case in Iran and in Egypt during the Arab Spring uprisings.

Another project, Ross said, was aimed at helping activists who fear arrest and torture to quickly wipe clean their mobile phones and transfer their data and contact lists to secure locations in a cloud to ensure their phones aren't used to track other activists.

Ever Woken Up and Felt Paralyzed? You’re Not Crazy — It’s an Actual Thing

Have you ever woken up and for a short time been unable to move? The unusual phenomenon of sleep paralysis, which can be associated with nightmarish hallucinations, can result in a lingering distress even after the episode has passed depending on certain factors, new research evaluating the topic suggests.

The phenomenon was first described by Weir Mitchell in 1876 (via Wired):

“The subject awakes to consciousness of his environment but is incapable of moving a muscle; lying to all appearance still asleep. He is really engaged in a struggle for movement fraught with acute mental distress; could he but manage to stir, the spell would vanish instantly.”

Sound familiar?

The level of distress following sleep paralysis episodes was associated with features of the sleep paralysis episode itself. For example, the results showed that the more fear people felt during sleep paralysis episodes, the more distress they felt afterward.

The researchers also found that sensory experiences during episodes of sleep paralysis predicted later distress. Feelings of threat and assault — such as sensing a presence in the room, feeling pressure on the chest, having difficulty breathing, or having a feeling of imminent death — were all associated with distress following sleep paralysis episodes. So, too, were vestibular-motor experiences, including feelings of floating or falling and out-of-body experiences.

Cheyne and Pennycook speculate that the sensory experiences that come with episodes of sleep paralysis could exacerbate people’s fear, creating a feedback loop that enhances memories of experiences later on.

Revealed: Drones Equipped With Spy Tech Detailed Enough to See If You’re Armed

Shortly before news of Attorney General Eric Holder’s letter revealing that the president could authorize drone strikes in the United States, unearthed documents from the Department of Homeland Security show how unmanned aerial vehicles once reserved for warfare have been equipped with technology to provide detailed surveillance over U.S. soil. Some are expressing concern about the potential for abuse of laws protecting citizens’ privacy.

Just how well-equipped are they? According to a redacted document obtained by the Electronic Privacy Information Center and a non-redacted version of the same document posted by CNET‘s Declan McCullagh, some Predator B drones operated by the U.S. Bureau of Customs and Border Protection are capable of intercepting electronic communication, identifying a person on the ground and even evaluating if they are armed or not.

What’s more, EPIC pointed out that these drones have been made available to other federal, state and local agencies, raising “questions about the agency’s compliance with federal privacy laws and the scope of domestic surveillance.”

The purpose of the CBP’s unmanned aerial vehicle system, according to the non-redacted document, is to “collect and pass information using an airborne sensor platform that will provide CBP and other DHS agents in the field an extended and enhanced situational awareness.”

Bloomberg’s Newest Public Health Initiative: Earbud Headphones?

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is determined to give his voters the best quality of life in the country. The only caveat? Bloomberg is the one deciding what the “good life” looks like.

Therefore, if you’re a fan of fatty foods, smoking, soda, bottle-feeding infants, guns, Styrofoam, or the latest– loud music on your iPod or mp3 player– you might be out of luck.

The New York Post has the story:

Hizzoner’s [his honor's] health officials are planning a social-media campaign to warn young people about the risk of losing their hearing from listening to music at high volume on personal MP3 players, The Post has learned.

“With public and private support, a public-education campaign is being developed to raise awareness about safe use of personal music players . . . and risks of loud and long listening,” said Nancy Clark, the city Health Department’s assistant commissioner of environmental-disease prevention.

The campaign, which will cost $250,000, is being financed through a grant received from the Fund for Public Health, the Health Department’s fund-raising arm.

The Hearing Loss Prevention Media Campaign will target teens and young adults, conducting focus-group interviews and using social-media sites like Facebook and Twitter.

Bloomberg has had a bug about ear-splitting rackets since taking office at City Hall, making noise reduction one of his key quality-of-life initiatives.

Rand Paul and Ted Cruz Introduce Legislation to Prohibit Drone Killings of U.S. Citizens

U.S. Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Rand Paul (R-Ky.) on Thursday introduced legislation to explicitly prohibit drone killings of American citizens on U.S. soil if they do not represent an imminent threat to the country.

Attorney General Eric Holder and White House Press Secretary Jay Carney both assured the country Thursday that the president does not have the constitutional authority to carry out drone strikes on non-combatant Americans in the United States. However, it seems that Cruz and Paul want to get that assurance in writing and make it officially against the law.

“Our Constitution restrains government power,” Cruz said in a statement. “The federal government may not use drones to kill U.S. citizens on U.S. soil if they do not represent an imminent threat. The Commander in Chief does, of course, have the power to protect Americans from imminent attack, and nothing in this legislation interferes with that power.”

Here is some of the key text in the bill:

“The Federal Government may not use a drone to kill a citizen of the United States who is located in the United States. The prohibition under this subsection shall not apply to an individual who poses an imminent threat of death or serious bodily injury to another individual. Nothing in this section shall be construed to suggest that the Constitution would otherwise allow the killing of a citizen of the United States in the United States without due process of law.”

Now traditionally...for the Jewish people....Blood Moons....aka Lunar Eclipses on Jewish Holidays is a sign of things happeing to the Jewish people....while Solar Eclipses or the Sun turning black which only happens with a total solar eclipse...on a Jewish Holiday is equal to trouble for the rest of the world as a whole.

Just some history for ya....the last time in history where there were four blood moons on jewish holidays....was in the past when Israel became a nation 1948 and during the Six-Day War 1967 in which when it was over they won Jerusalem back. Then way back during the Spanish Inquisiton 1492.

The difference this time around though will be a solar eclipse right dab in the middle. Plus this even of 2014-2015 will never happen again in this century.

Math and computers and stuff is so cool!
