Here's what my granddad once told me when I had a hard time believing in myself: Everyone is at first like an unpolished, rough stone. If we polish the outside, it won't matter much; the stone will still be worthless and like all other stones. But if you search deeper, work hard and sometimes sacrifice a scratch on the outer shell to get through it and polish that, you will find it shinning and reflecting all the colors of the light.
It might just be a metaphor but it means a lot to me. We can all have our talents sharpened and visible to the world. So walk with your head up high and remember that with each scratch and bruise you get, you are one step closer to achieving you goal. Believe in yourself!
