happy birthday Yagi-san

Heya! We met at the Avatar shoot at K-con - I was Suki!

Well hallo there! : D I really liked your Suki cosplay, especially your shoulder armor. Any chance you're coming to Sakuracon~? I would love to hang out, since I didn't hang out much with everyone after the shoot at Kcon.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

thinkgirlthink In reply to yagi-san [2010-09-17 03:07:40 +0000 UTC]

Haha, thanks, although I think I'm gonna scrap the foamies armor and sew it. Because... There was little to no movement with that stuff. Not to mention it got all crinkly. >.<

I think I will be there, yeah! And yes, hanging out has to happen. I didn't get to talk to anyone really after the shoot, which bummed me out.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

yagi-san In reply to thinkgirlthink [2010-09-17 03:33:08 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, armor is a pain. Luckily Sokka doesn't have any, so I just got to sit and watch Hashi yell at the Jet armor for a couple weeks. XD

Hopefully at Sak we'll all be able to hang out a bit after the shoot. It'll help that the shoot will be at the con, even though the Keller fountain was awesome.

thinkgirlthink In reply to yagi-san [2010-09-17 03:49:10 +0000 UTC]

It's unfun stuff. Luckily it was super cheap - I think the total was like, 10 bucks. But it just wasn't right.

And I hope so - the Keller was awesome, but things like the hobo probs won't occur at the con. XD

yagi-san In reply to thinkgirlthink [2010-09-17 22:59:29 +0000 UTC]

Hooray for cheap cosplay! Always a good thing.

It helps that Sakuracon has a park right there connected to the Convention Center, and it's so big that multiple photoshoots can happen at different locations. : D And it's gorgeous on the inside which is good in case of rain.

thinkgirlthink In reply to yagi-san [2010-09-17 23:18:49 +0000 UTC]

Cheapie cosplays are good. I don't even want to think about the rest of it, though. OTL

Oh, that's fantastic - Portland's an awesome city, but for photoshoots... maybe not so much.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

yagi-san In reply to thinkgirlthink [2010-09-18 00:22:38 +0000 UTC]

Yeah... I try to just ignore that part of cosplay until it comes time to buy everything. XD

Portland's good for photoshoots if the weather is good, but Sakuracon is good for photoshoots always AND is self-contained. Unlike Kcon, very few con-goers leave the convention center to wander around downtown Seattle. I'm so used to seeing con-goers all over downtown Portland that I was kind of freaked out when I saw maybe five max outside of Sak. XD

Wait, seriously? That's so... cool! A little weird, too, though. Hahaha. The starbucks across the street was constantly paaacked with K-con people. There were a lot around. That's gonna be strange!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

yagi-san In reply to thinkgirlthink [2010-09-20 05:21:56 +0000 UTC]

It is a little strange, but it's still lots of fun. Sakuracon just has a different feel since it's bigger than Kcon. I still love them both of course. : )

thinkgirlthink In reply to yagi-san [2010-09-21 01:05:28 +0000 UTC]

I'm sure it's lots of fun - from what I've heard, it blows K-con out of the water. Kumoricon was my first one that I've been too, so I'm suuuper excited. GAHAJTAJLGALSDG.

I see you've got some comic plans, too! (speaking of which, I really should get back to mine, but I doubt I'll have time or motivation until after k-con. patterns are the bane of my existence I swear.)

In theory. Assuming I survive Kcon. XD Hooray for patterns. @~@

PhantomTeacup In reply to yagi-san [2010-08-14 18:35:26 +0000 UTC]

ACKACKACK. I wish I could skip the patterning step but I suppose it can't be helped. xD;

I'm not going to even try to get anything that's not con-related done until after it's over. I've discovered that I fail at getting things done over the summer.

yagi-san In reply to PhantomTeacup [2010-08-18 05:47:50 +0000 UTC]

I have recently been wasting my time with the necessary evil of making mockups. I have yet to actually finish anything, except for a pair of drawstring pants. >.o

I never get anything done over summer. Except excessive sleeping. |3

PhantomTeacup In reply to yagi-san [2010-08-18 18:59:49 +0000 UTC]

Summer is demotivational.

Mock-ups count as progress. They make everything easier. (they also make patterning less obnoxious.)

Yagi! How are you? If you are still in Portland in August at all, we should hang. Because I haven't seen you in about a billion years and that's a tragedy. How is school going? And life in general? Love ya, and sorry for being such an out of touch bad friend! Forgiveness, please?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

yagi-san In reply to imagiona [2010-05-17 21:09:57 +0000 UTC]

Hallo thar! I am doing pretty good, how about you? I will indeed be in Portland all through summer and next fall, but I'm transferring to the UofO in Winter term. The Japanese program there is waaaay better than the one at PSU. : ( But other than that school's going pretty well. I completely forgive you for being out of touch since I have been equally out of touch. XD We should definitely hang out sometime soon!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

imagiona In reply to yagi-san [2010-05-18 18:29:49 +0000 UTC]

I'm doing pretty well, I even survived the Minnesota winter and made it back to Eugene alive. That's a pity about PSU, since the city is so cool, but that makes sense.
yeah, for sure! I'll let you know when I can make it up to Portland (it'll probably be in August).
I just have to ask, did you actually cut your hair, or are those just really convincing cosplay wigs? Looks great either way!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

yagi-san In reply to imagiona [2010-05-23 20:16:27 +0000 UTC]

Haha it's ironic that you went to Minnesota, cuz my roommate is from Minnesota, and I keep meeting people from there now. XD

Yeah, I'll miss Portland. But oh well. At least I'll have a car in Eugene. : D

I haven't cut my hair, no. XD But I do plan to get a mohawk, possibly in a couple weeks. I'm excited~!

Sweet!! You better post pictures of the hawk!
Me too! As soon as I decided on a college in MN, I found out that a ton of people living in the Northwest are from there originally. maybe a bad sign... I'm migrating the wrong way!

I'm flattered.

...it's only got twelve pages so far, though. I'm afraid it won't occupy you for very long. xD;

But they're twelve pages of gorgeous~! I'm excited to see where your comic goes! *_* Every time I see your art it makes me want to draw more. XD

Phoenix-Scribbles In reply to yagi-san [2010-05-16 06:32:13 +0000 UTC]

DOOO IIIIIIITTTTT! 8D

I'm glad I can inspire you... there are artists who do that for me, so it's cool that I can give back. SPREADING THE INSPIRATION!

I'm planning to keep this one fairly short so I can move on to the comics I really want to do. (Which means it will still be ridiculously long since I can't write short things. just... less ridiculously long than my other projects.) xD;

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

yagi-san In reply to Phoenix-Scribbles [2010-05-17 02:48:48 +0000 UTC]

YOU ARE VERY MUCH AN INSPIRATION. It's because I really like your art style. : D If I didn't have so much homework I would totally draw more. @~@

Haha yeah my story is ridiculously long. I do have other stories it'd be fun to do, but frankly I'll be surprised if I can even finish my main one. I am not so speedy in the page drawing department like you are. XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Phoenix-Scribbles In reply to yagi-san [2010-05-23 00:32:31 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! 8D
Well, at least the term is almost over.

I try... you'd think I would be able to get them up more frequently since they really don't take that long. (This isn't even one of my main stories... I'm doing it for practise and... just to get something out there that I'm not quite as attatched to.)
Maybe you need to find a partner? Plenty of comics are drawn/written by two or more people... nothing wrong with that. I doubt I'll ever have time for a collab comic since I have way too many ridiculously long personal projects, but there's plenty of people who do. (Or you could do them in black and white... there are plenty of options.)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

yagi-san In reply to Phoenix-Scribbles [2010-05-23 20:22:06 +0000 UTC]

yeah, but as soon as the term ends, I have to move dorms, and then I go to Japan for three weeks, and then I get back and take summer classes. So basically I don't get a summer break. XD

Dude, you already update faster than almost every online comic I read, even the black and white ones. XD My comic will definitely be b&w, if only cuz coloring is not my forte. >> But yeah, I'm gonna do a few short practice comics before I officially start my main one, but for the most part I'm just jumping right into it. Which I know is not the best way to do it, but... oh well. And I'm way too attached to this story to ever share it with anyone, so I just have to suck it up and do all the work myself. XD Seriously, this story has already taken over my life and I haven't even started drawing it yet.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Phoenix-Scribbles In reply to yagi-san [2010-05-25 04:11:39 +0000 UTC]

D8
why would you do that to yourself?

You think? I've seen some with gorgeous, detailed art that update with at least four pages per week, if not more. I'm shocked mine looks as good as it does, seeing as I basically scribble. woohoo.

See, I've been there. I tried to jump into a huge project and the project died cause I couldn't handle it. (well, I also decided that the style wasn't right for the story, and I felt I'd started in the wrong place...) But I totally understand. I could never relinquish my artistic freedom with my story to someone else. (now, I had done a couple of one-shots that I was fine with... I took on this project because it's longer than a one-shot but not as ridiculously long as my main projects, and the style of the pages is simpler.)

If a webcomic isn't taking over your life you're doing it wrong.

yagi-san In reply to Phoenix-Scribbles [2010-05-26 00:18:40 +0000 UTC]

Because I have to if I want to graduate college in three more years. *le sigh*

Yes, well, those comics are the exception, because whoever is drawing them already broke through the Awesome-o-Meter. >> But I like your comic a lot. : D That's the secret to a great comic: scribbles of adequate quality that don't take a week and a half per page to draw.

Yeah... I would wait and do a different comic first, but I know if I don't give myself some ridiculous deadline for my main story like I have right now, I would never work up enough energy to actually draw it. Forcing myself is the best way for me to get anything done. Assuming I don't crossover that threshold between "overworked" and "mental breakdown." 8D;;

I almost brought my laptop to class today so I could keep working on writing up the back story, but I convinced myself that I should at least pretend to pay attention. So I drew in class instead.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Phoenix-Scribbles In reply to yagi-san [2010-05-26 01:33:50 +0000 UTC]

Awww... yeah, I know how it is. Most theatre majors have to go five years, which I refuse to do. Luckily I took classes my senior year of high school...

haha, the other reason I'm doing this is in an effort to learn to draw faster without sacrificing quality.

I suppose different things work for different people. (my ability to motivate myself is borderline nonexistant...)

NOTEBOOKS ARE THE SOLUTION TO EVERYTHING! 8D
...cause then you look like you're taking notes, right? (and in my case no one else can read them to tell if they're notes or not since my backward scribbles are illegible.)
(of course I'm not trying to convert others to my old-fashioned low-tech ways...)
but CAN'T WAIT TO SEE! -throws inspiration-

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

yagi-san In reply to Phoenix-Scribbles [2010-05-26 02:04:06 +0000 UTC]

My self-motivation is so nonexistent that it legitimately scares me sometimes. Hooray for serious time-management issues!

Ahaha, notebooks are indeed the solution, but my mind has completely converted to the computer way of thinking. I rearrange my thoughts in such a way that copy/paste is my number one organization technique. That and the section of back story I'm currently working on requires a little research, so if I don't have the internet, I end up with a bunch of loose ends and missing details. >> Oh the joys of realism, complicating every little thing I do. But I like having the realism, so it's worth it. : D

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Phoenix-Scribbles In reply to yagi-san [2010-05-26 02:11:26 +0000 UTC]

my mind... refuses to convert to the computer way of thinking. xD; Of course, I can't say I've really tried all that hard.

ah... my brain vomits details in copious amounts. (I can't find things on the internet anyway...)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

yagi-san In reply to Phoenix-Scribbles [2010-05-28 01:36:09 +0000 UTC]

At the very least, doing everything on the computer saves me the couple of bucks that more notebooks would cost over time. Cuz I would fill them up waaaay too quickly. >>

I have no problem adding details, so much so that I'm currently trying to get rid of a lot of the superfluous details in my story. XD But I don't know much about deserts and architecture styles etc, so research is currently my best friend.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Phoenix-Scribbles In reply to yagi-san [2010-06-01 21:27:43 +0000 UTC]

My handwriting is so cramped and spindly I don't fill them that fast, unless it's during nano and I'm just writing a lot more than is healthy normal. xD;
I can't write on the computer. My brain has yet to catch up with the twenty-first century. (Actually, I think I'm stuck sometime around WWII... if not sooner.)

Yeah, research is good. (but somehow I don't seem to need it that often...)
