Description This was a quick(ish) blaster design I churned out when I was wondering what kind of gear I'd have if I existed in the Star Wars universe. I like slides and gas-powered bolts on guns, which the traditional star wars blaster lacked, so the idea here is that every time the gun fires, that panel at the rear is shot backward and discharges heat from the lasing cavity (or whatever it is that heats up in a blaster), hence the smaller than usual heat shroud at the front. I envisaged some sort of ceramic plate with spots of quick heat-storing-and-releasing gel for that rear panel. The side magazine is the gas supply, while the exchangeable battery fits into the base of the grip, as the blaster is supposedly not just a laser weapon, but incorporates a gas feed to produce a bolt of plasma (ouch).
The 'cocking lever' style contraption on the side is to lock the heat-release plate in its extended position for changing out spent plates (the gel might wear out or something). You may also be able to make out the takedown pin above the trigger guard, and the spot where the safety is pinned through the frame at the back, above the grip. Not an ambidextrous gun I'm afraid.
Since it seems to be such a light pistol, the name 'BlasTech Cavalier' seemed to fit it.
...this picture looks better in pencil in my sketchbook.

Some blasters in Star Wars did actually have moving slides and bolts. If you watch closely in "A New Hope" you can see when ever the storm troopers fired at the security forces on the blockade runner the charging handle on the side of the blaster rifle recoils. The same can be seen in "The Empire Strikes Back" when Han shoots at Vader in Cloud City, the slide on his blaster pistol recoils. This may not have been intentional to show in the movies but was noticeable because each blaster prop in the early movies actually fired blanks.

I like the concept pic. though, and like the idea to of blasters that have recoiling slides.
