Description Photographed live, and released live.

He (she?) flew on to my front porch, posed, and left.

{story of my life, must have been "she."}

It is light sensitive, and only flies in the dark.

When I found the information on Wikipedia about this type of moth, I turned out the lights, and he (she?) flew away.

Wow, I've never seen a moth like that before.

Or perhaps I did and didn't pay attention to it. This looks so neat up close. It's so beautiful.

The angle is excellent. Nice shot.

Thanks! They are so nocturnal that they won't fly in the light.

I was worried that I had hurt it during his/her posing session, but once I figured out that I needed to turn off the lights, he/she flew away.

Thanks!

I knew I should have gotten Norton anti-cat, because the little monster did something to Vista, but the old Mac is back in action and it seems cat-proof (knock -on-wood).

Did some Wiki reading. They are so nocturnal that they won't fly when it is light out.
He/She/It hung around my front porch for a long time, and when it finally dawned (Pun Apology) on me to turn off the light, he flew away.

Either that or the flash from the camera blinded him and he didn't know it was day or night...

Wow, that's interesting that he didn't fly away until it was dark. Maybe he fell asleep in the light! Where were you when you saw him?

I saw him on my front porch. I keep the light on, and it attracts many insects, though this is the first one I have photographed. There is also a huge frog (or toad) who takes advantage of the bugs.
