Hehehe... The pet is only as good as the owner, right? Treat them with a kind hand and they'll be your best friend. Be cruel to them and they'll just project that same attitude towards others. Like children, dogs are a product of their environment.

She is a mix, actually, but according to the humane society we adopted her from the staffordshire genes dominate her, and she was, in fact, the very last legal pit bull to be sold in my city before BSL came into effect. FYI, She's really not that big.

*shrug* They could have been wrong. Just because a person works at an animal shelter doesn't necessarily mean they're an expert on dogs or cats, right? Thank you though.

There are many black cats out there who need love <3 That would be wonderful if you get one. Pit bulls make great dogs, if you know how to handle them. Just make sure you do your research before getting one. Not all dogs, pit bull or not, get along with other animals.

It's a very true, sad fact about black cats. I know the humane society [I THINK it was in my city but im not sure] was having an adopt-a-black-cat day thing on Halloween but called it off because people would adopt them to kill them on Halloween. :\

Yeah, I've heard about stuff like that happening- people burning cats alive as a sacrifice for some kind of twisted cult reasoning. You also have to worry about people adopting black cats for Halloween just as props, and as soon as the holiday's over they don't want them anymore. As much as I agree with adopting animals, one should never do it around the holidays. Do it before or after.

Exactly. I hate people who give young kids animals as gifts. My little cousin was given a guinea pig as a gift. She got bored of it and the parents gave it away. Then she got a puppy. She's too young to train it and the parents didn't want to/she got bored of it so they gave it away. She got two cats and she's already bored of them.

Yeah. I've noticed when people buy their children pets it's the parents who end up taking care of them. Unless the parent is absolutely willing to take care of the animal from the start- because that's what's going to end up happening anyway- just don't get one. If you're child is under the age of 10 you should not expect them to take care of an animal when they can't even take care of themselves.
It's sad. When I went to the humane society one time looking for my cat, this couple brought in their german shepherd pup. They had a newborn baby and just couldn't take care of the both of them. My heart broke watching them say their goodbyes and I couldn't help but think; 'Why get a dog when you're pregnant and know the baby's going to take up all your time and attention?'

I know, right? How can people judge these beautiful creatures. Pitties aren't the only breeds who have been known to attack people. You can't stereotype an entire species based on what a small handfull of them have done. As for black cats- I will never understand what people have against them. This isn't the dark ages anymore. Thank you very much for your comment!

A strat! *cuddle cuddle coddle coddle* Oooh kitten! *nuzzle nuzzle purr purr*
I love both pitt bulls and black cats! I've never had a pitt myself but I had a gorgeous black cat. The one pitt bull I knew was at a vet clinic I worked at. The vet owned him and he was a gorgeous, pure white. Lovely little dog!

Yeah, pitbulls are wonderful animals if raised by the right people. The problem is all these a-holes who want them for guard dogs or fighters and starve, beat or neglect them. And the reason the media makes such a big deal of it is because they're simply that- pitbulls. And when people see something on the news, the gossip starts to spread and then we get people who are ignorant and scared of them and stereotype all of them. Statistically a chihuahua is more likely to attack a kid than a pit is. Hell, when my cousin was small she got her face ripped apart by a huskey, after the guy was asked if it was ok to pet him. She had to go through multiple plastic surgeries and went to court over it. Thankfully the dog wasnt destroyed, but the owner did have to move to the country with him.

Don't I know it! I used to work with vets and that seems to be the major problem with any animal. Not the animal but the breeder or the owner messing things up. Makes me want to just whack people upside the head.
I have a cousin who was attacked by a dog that was in the owner's store. The dog had been known to be hostile towards children but kept it in the store behind a little gate. It was the owner's fault and he should have gotten the bullet instead of the dog.

Beautiful pit and cat! Its such a shame that people think them to be aggressive dogs u take any dog and abuse them there gunna eventually bit ya. Treat them with kindness yet a firm hand and never hit them they turn out to be the most loyal of all dogs out there.

Agreed. Lexi's been a member of our family for over three years and she doesnt have a vicious bone in her body. Granted, some pitbulls have been known to snap, but there's usually been a reason for it.

there's always a reason behind a dog snapping at someone. I hate it when people say "it the dogs falt." But they can get cranky with other dogs. My one pit Shady was mean when it came to other dogs but she never attacked them unless they attacked her. She'd just growl a warning. Just was doing her duty of protecting my family and I. My other pit Wendy she'd just cower at the sight of another dog. She was a huge pit. Like 87 pounds average. Thing was a coward. But what a great dog she was. Very loyal.
