Description

Final for part 7 of my prehistoric animal illustration series, this time it's Coelodonta antiquitatis, otherwise known as the woolly rhinoceros. This big fuzzy unicorn was alive during the late pliocene into the late pleistocene and was fairly common in Europe and Northern Asia.
Ice Age cave paintings show that this big guy had some interactions with early humans, which is a possible reason for their eventual extinction, sadly that is what they get for being made out of meat. Another possible reason for their their absence from the current ecosystem is that the climate changed and also changed the plants the regions it lived in and it just couldn't adapt to the loss of their main foods fast enough.

Coelodonta weighed in at around 4000-6000lbs and measured somewhere around 9-12 feet in length when fully grown.
