Description A page from my children's book school-assignment which I am working on at the moment. Blankspace is for the font.

These african fairytales are quite gruesome, but this is a nice one. There were others were people were getting stabbed and animals were starving and being ripped apart.... I don't think violence in fairytales is bad, but it would have been bad to draw stuff like that.

Kinda reminds me of how all Irish myths are tragedies, every single one of them.

You really are a flexible artist, but still the awesome use of textures remains! Great stuff <3

I bet a bit more contrast would help, the dots are kind of hampersome too...

Thanks alot, but did you mean that the dots in the backgound were too much or should the textures in a whole be more homogeneous?

Homogeneous sounds nice but I think I meant the background (not that I don't remember, I'm just grasping for the right look overall). Overall anyway I think it makes their eyes a little harder to make out. (?? maybe)

Hm, I see your point. I will keep the dots in the background further away from the eyes, that shall do it. Thanks!

I think I meant, to sort of accommodate in my comment the dots in general, that those in/on the creatures crowded/impinged-on the eyes/outlines a bit, BUT YOU SOUND SO SURE!

I read a couple of children's books today, I think I was reminded of the whole thing by this. I read "the tiger who came to tea" and "the lonesome puppy", and they were rad as HELL - the most refined language in the world. (I read the tiger one as a kid, too, illustrations are the key!!!!!!!!)

African fairytales are truly one of the most violent ones. I remember reading one about some creatures that were skinning people by scratching them...(or sth similiar) I used to like disturbing tales as a kid, but this freaked me out.

Textures nicely shows this gruesome part imo. Good job!
Also, I'd love to see more of your children's book stuff^^

violence is made to straight-up scare the chillun.
Like all fairy tales of yesteryear.

Yeah, it is all about the way you present it to the kids. I don't remember getting nightmares from red riding hood.

I remember Anansi from Neil Gaimans American Gods. He was a nice fellow there.

oh, when we were kids, the stories were already softened.

I mean during the time of the Brothers Grimm.

And let's not forget the Jabberwock.
