you have such an adorable cartoony style, but you add in some sick stuff. i love how you always think of something new, the flash of keifer you did was horrifyingly adorable.
i keep going OMGWANT.
lately i tried to draw in muro, but i kinda broke my tablet pen in half and now i only use the eraser side to draw (i was surprised it even still worked) but muro was like NOPE.avi
so then i tried with my mouse
but muro was still like

Wow, thanks a lot ChipotleSauce [and I fucking love Chipotle sauce!!] It's new to me to hear that stuff I do is "something new" too, haha. A lot of gore-related artworks can get pretty repetitive and I always felt that I am no better. This is certainly an ego boost! Also it's pretty funny how a lot of people who look at my stuff claim that it's "sick" or "disgusting" but still fav it and comment haha! It's freakin' awesome!!
Thanks a lot for writing this comment. It means a lot to me when someone write more than "that's cool". (: If I weren't so busy I think I would be making more short animation/loop like the one I made recently. But I will work hard and try to post some new stuff!
And haha, I didn't know half-a-tablet pen still works! It's a pioneering discovery for all digital artists! And kick the muro in the ass.

Oh wow, that looks really nice, muro that is. I was never able to get anything that's beyond really simple doodles but even with those I'm usually wishing I was drawing on SAI instead of Muro. =u= I'm just too spoiled by the programs I use. But that's why I have so much respect for people who can ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING in these other programs. @3@
Hahaha I think we can relate to each other about liking something SO MUCH? It does feel like you have to explode sometimes. o__o Especially when you're going through a sort of withdraw due to lack of new input...or output? For me at least, since I'm doing a ton of fanart. *sigh*
I think they look different...but I totally understand the frustration of having a character then coming across another one that's already published and or well known that kinda looks like yours without you knowing. I've seen this happen with a lot of people too. My eventual opinion on this is that I shouldn't worry TOO much, least not to the point of re-designing or never wanting to draw my own character again because they resemble someone else's. And usually with characters that are known through a simple style to begin with, it's ESPECIALLY easy to make them look too similar with whatever you draw since the original style doesn't give enough information for people to go off of? Like, facial structure for example. Annyyyhow, that about sums up my ramble on the subject but it's just how I'm interpreting this so I don't spend too much time fussing over stuff when it happens. *shrugs*

Ah, thanks Z. But Muro is indeed kind of limited. I am WAY too used to Photoshop, haha. I think Muro could be a nice tool for doing rough paintings, or lineless drawing.
"Hahaha I think we can relate to each other about liking something SO MUCH?"
An "obsession" would be the word! Haha! It's nice seeing you be so productive on things you like though. It makes ME feel better haha.
"it's ESPECIALLY easy to make them look too similar with whatever you draw since the original style doesn't give enough information for people to go off of?"
You make a very good point. Characters that are drawn with relatively simple style tend to leave details up to viewer's imagination, so who knows how someone will interpret it to be. If you think about it, it kind of feels unfair how you can't predict who will make what kind of connection.
I don't know how justified my reaction is though. I have a great fear of someone accusing me of ripping things off.
BUT, BUT, the thing with this kind of accusation is that, once SOMEONE mention it, people CANNOT UNSEE. I am not saying EVERYONE who see similarities between two works are accusing bastards [in fact, probably not many are like that], but it does have a snowball effect, and it increases the chance of an accusation...Gah, It just...gives me shivers thinking about an honest coincidence coming off as a rip off. And "similarities" are actually everywhere too. The ones you notice are the connections you made actively. People better be aware of this! Because I would think that if all of us immediately see the connection just because THEY ARE THERE, all IQ tests scores will be perfect, and all detectives would be like Sherlock Holmes.
Even though I rambled all that, I don't feel absolutely horrid about Kiefer = Lucas like I used to. I did wanted to make sure that I don't make drastic change on Kiefer JUST because of my fear. I want the project to take a path I planned originally.
Also, I came to conclusion that the similarity is actually pretty harmless, haha. I really drew this for fun (: Also, unlike other similarities I had in the past, I absolutely adore Lucas. HOW CAN I BE MAD AT HIM?!

Haha, you and me both. Photoshop is just too wonderful (& SAI, really, I can't ink with anything else now, you should try if you haven't already and if you get a chance to.)
Anyhow, gosh yes. Obsessed is rather the way to put it huh (for better or worse)?
"It's nice seeing you be so productive on things you like though. It makes ME feel better haha."
But haha, aw, that's too kind. How do I even respond to that? I guess I can't EXACTLY say the same for you, since from what I remember, you don't often do fanart and not continuously of one thing yet. No, it just makes me happy to see you're drawing whenever.
Yep, and with Lucas' example, no one can tell his eye color! They are just two dots! Well, longish dots, but still! So it's hard to go off on an interpretation of reality already. Just thinking about the idea of fanart in general the other day, everyone does stuff in their own style, which, is really part of the appeal to see a familiar character re-interpreted but sometimes, I wonder what's truly correct? If anyone was able to capture the essence of a character? *shrugs* (I dunno what I just said, I think I'm just rambling now).
But yeahhh that happens, I mean, you should just check out this meme *Zombiesmile made in response to this sort of thing --> [link] (read the description, it makes so much sense haha) But well, when it does happen, I guess it's about how you deal with it. Because really, as they say, some people just watch too much cartoons or anime and need to learn more tact. Plus, about changing your creation because of things like this, well I've changed whole characters based on other things, but the point is, if you're feeling good about any sort of re-design you might do, then it should be all fine. As long as you're happy with it.

That;s so cool. What do you feel about it in comparison to Mother 2?
π: 0 β©: 1
0meter In reply to DDshoeshowz [2011-06-12 03:13:19 +0000 UTC]
Tough question! But I think the main point I would like to make is that playing Mother 3 didn't really make me value Mother 2 any less. In fact, playing Mother 3 made me like the whole series MORE, [including the un-played Mother 1, which now I am consider playing.]
The battle UI in Mother 3 was superior; I was very glad of some features they added into the battle play. Story and character wise it's hard to say. Both were awesome, but they are not similar enough for me to really put it side by side and compare by quality. One thing I did miss while playing Mother 3 was periodically contacting a parental figure. As much as Ness crying for his mommy annoyed me at times, it still made me laugh, and I felt closer to the character as a player because it was a pretty relate-able quality. Lucas didn't have anything like that. So in a way, Lucas felt a bit more "distant" to me. It didn't ruin the game play at all, but that's what noticed when I placed Ness and Lucas side by side. Also...I really wanted to see Lucas's Magicant!!
There are a lot of stuff that can be discussed but...I don't want to write too much. So there is a bit of my thought on it!
Overall, I think Mother 3 had more impact to me, but I don't think it would've delivered the message and the emotional stimulation without having me played Mother 2 because...well, there are some connections.
Yeah...tough question >:C

I'm sorry that this took me SOOOO long to reply. I adore Earthbound because it's easy to just get into it from the beginning and go from town to town while beating the shitake out of all the wacky enemies. It's pretty fast-paced, and has a very straightforward plot (well, seemingly). EarthBound starts off innocent enough, but the farther you progress, the more the darker underbelly of its themes is revealed.
I suppose I'm not really saying anything that you don't know, but I really adore Earthbound.
I'll have to play Mother 3, but first I promised a friend I'd play through Super Mario RPG so we could talk about it! XD

Well, I can certainly see that you like Earthbound haha. If you liked EB you will definitely enjoy Mother 3, but there is no hurry I guess. You have until....well, the rest of your life to try this game out!

Good to see another Mother fan as well! And I don't think they are too much similar, you can tell Kiefer apart easily because of his little hook hair on top of his head and his collar from his shirt even without color. Still, this is really adorable. ;;

I like the scribbliness(I KNOW ITS NOT A WORD BUT WHO CARES) of the drawing. The tiny "back round" is cute too. Kiefer and Lucus seem so afraid of each other, hehee. THEY'RE SO CUTE!
I still wonder how you draw kiefer's hair. It seems so complicated and confusing...or is it just me?
Great job! It looks awesome for just a sketch!

Haha, don't worry about it, I got what you meant by "scribbliness" :b
I think I would also be rather fearful of Lucas considering what he can do, ha!
Oh ha...Kiefer's hair. Eh, I can't say this drawing is the best representation of it since it's drawn very roughly, but I suppose it will look complicated for some people. Maybe I can try drawing some kind of a "turn around" later.
I am glad you enjoyed this drawing even though it is very sketchy!

That makes me more curious about the mother/earthbound series.
For me, even looking at this [link] , I'm still confused. (hehee I'm clueless)
Is there something like a lighter spun up layer of hair on top and then a darker layer under it that's just supporting the lighter layer? Wait, I think I lost you in that. Umm, I don't know how to explain.
But it's interesting.
Sketchy drawings and line-arts attract a lot of my attention!

My pathetic attempt to do a "turn around" just turned into a collage of doodles: [link]
But from the description you wrote, sounds like you pretty much got it. His hair is not 100% 3D though, mostly due to my lack of skill, heh! So there are inconsistencies.
I was hoping that the doodle may help you understand. If it is still confusing...:C I guess, uh, wait until I get a bit better!

Sweet!
I've thought of this before but I totally hate it when someone says "UR CHARACTER REMINDZ ME OF --" so I didn't mention it. I notice it when drawing Kiefer's hair.
Lucas without colors might look like Kiefer but Kiefer doesn't resemble Lucas. However you drew them nicely here!
I thought of playing Earthbound/Mother before but I already watched videos of it (like endings) long time ago so I'm not sure. Do you recommend playing it? If there's gore then I might give it a try LOL

Well, I think I wouldn't feel as threatened at the comparison comment if they let me know of their intention a bit better. In a lot of cases, people seems to say it out of amusement, not for making a real accusation. But they usually sound so blunt!; like it's something I REALLY need to know.
In any case, it has been on my mind a LOT while playing Mother 3 haha, but thanks for your input!
There is no gore in Mother 3, haha but the game is pretty mature; don't let its official game art fool you! Sounds like you have been spoiled of the good stuff. ]: Now I am unsure what to tell you, but I actually played Mother 3 with the ending spoiled -- due to too much lurking in the community -- but it still did its job delivering the emotional impact when I played it.
If you are a RPG game fan like me I think you might still enjoy it. o:
