This heavyweight Oldsmobile 88 was a beauty - and it had the "back porch", or extended rear to hold the encased spare tire, a la Continental style.The jet engine and the changes it wrought in the aviation world were echoed in the designs of Detroit at the time. You could look at almost any car and see the outline or the suggestion of a jet from the pronounced hood ornaments to just the trim or the grilles that seemed to incorporate 'intakes' and the rear bumpers that sported impossible jet exhaust taillights.
Large commercial aircraft are allowed to incorporate the term 'heavy' into their call-signs so tower or control personnel know them as big boys (or girls) - hence the title.

Thanks. I'm laughing a bit to remember the thoughts I had taking the shot. I was reminding myself that I'd be wanting to present the sense of sheer MASS of the thing. These were large cars, though not excessively so. But they exuded a real aura of some luxury and power - as though wherever they were, they'd bloody arrived.

I find the low shooting angle does that well.
Its great on big impressive steam locos! Like its towering over you!
