Description Stymphalios: The Storm of Swords
Other Titles: Queen of the Ruktars, Sword-Face, Quad Bird

Intro: The Isle of Skull is home to a great many gargantuan beasts, ranging from the giant apes, titanic theropods, to the mega-sized insects. There are creatures on Skull Island, however, that are less like living/once-living animals and more like creatures pulled straight out the pages of a science-fiction novel. One of these beasts is a creature that rules the skies of the isle, raining down a hailstorm of needles down upon her foes. Her name is Stymphalios.

History: When 3 of the survivors of the failed U.S warship mission arrived on the coast of Ecuador, they brought a strange beast that was later quarantined to a site in Western Ecuador. Due to its outer-coating of sharp scales, its incredible sharp beak, and two pairs of wings, it was dubbed "Stymphalia", after the Stymphalian birds of Greek mythology, whose wings were coated with sharp feathers and whose beaks were as sharp as swords. The discovery of this creature and eyewitness accounts by the survivors was what ultimately led to the formation of an expedition team to the purported location of the island. Stymphalia was taken on board the ship, as it was stated the creature seemed to have an incredible sense of direction that would lead the crew safely to their destination.

Once on the island, the crew was protected from hostile wildlife due to Stymphalia's presence, who ultimately led them to a scouting party of Iwi tribe members. After a brief skirmish, the two parties traveled to the mountain fortress, the resting place of all the great titans on the island. Along with Kong, several theropods, and strange horned animals with beaks, the team also saw the outline of the creature that would be dubbed by Monarch as "Stymphalios".

As time passed and Monarch set down a base of operations on the island, they learned more about this "Storm of Swords" and the other beasts on the island, as well as the mythology surrounding them. Stymphalios herself seemed to have been an ally of Kong, helping him and the other titans keep track of the hypervores of the island's deep underworld from escaping and ravaging the rest of the planet. Stymphalios also played an important part in the battle against Akujin, where she used her sharp wings, beak, and scales to push back the hellish force, and ultimately lending Kong enough time to get back onto his feet.

To this day, Stymphalios surveys the island from the skies, raining down death upon her foes and protecting the life that has not been defiled by the hypervore scourge.

Description: While Stymphalios is listed as having a Beta ranking on the Monarch database, that doesn't detract from the vicious power she possesses. Her beak, chest, and wings are lined with sharpened layers of titanothite that can cut off the limbs of small animals with ease and cause severe cuts to larger, but lesser-armored opponents. While she mainly flies with the use of her front two wings, she can use all four wings to come to sudden stops or to change directions on the turn of a dime.

Her signature weapon however, lies in the coat of scales that she is covered in. They come in three types. Type 1 scales are extremely tiny, only about a few inches long. They are often dislodged quite easily, and are used to irritate larger opponents around the face, similar to how a tarantula dislodges many irritating hairs and launches them at its aggressors. Type 2 scales are much larger and thicker (around a meter in length), but are just as easily detachable as Type 1. They are dislodged in the same way as Type 1 scales, but instead of being used to irritate larger opponents, they are reserved when facing many smaller foes, with Stymphalios climbing high into the sky and dislodging the scales, where they proceed to fall down at immense speeds and start impaling smaller animals in a barrage of quills that decimates swarms of small to medium-sized hypervores. After dislodging the scales, new ones grow back in rapid time, ready for another barrage of attacks. Type 3 scales are firmly attached the body, and only serve the purpose of further aiding the sharpened chest in slicing through small animals.

According to DNA tests, Stymphalios' belongs to the archosaur family tree, though admittedly one that does not belong to any previously recognized archosaur group. Fossil evidence also shows the species had a much larger geographical range up until the Late Pleistocene, with Skull Island now being their last stronghold.

According to myth, Stymphalios herself started out as a normal-sized member of what the Iwi call "The Ruktars". When the old queen died in the first emergence of Akujin, Stymphalios and her sisters vied for dominance until she was the sole survivor, after which she grew to the monstrous size that she is now. While it can't be confirmed if the species engages in this brutal act of killing the competition, it does seem quite likely. The majority of the Ruktar population is male, with only Stymphalios and four other, smaller Ruktars (including Stymphalia) being female. It can be inferred then that the Ruktar matriarch usually gives birth to males as to avoid any serious reproductive competition from other females. The only female offspring that she delivers are the future queens of the hive, which are kept from breeding with the males via a chemical cue in their bodies that is active until the old queen dies. After which, the females will slaughter each other until one survives to be the next queen. The Iwi state that it wasn't always like this, that in the past, before the titans of the world descended to deep sleep, the queen's offspring would peacefully disperse from the hive, taking a few males with them to start a new one. With the destruction of critical titan habitat at the end of the ice age, the species has had to resort to new, more violent strategies to survive. If the titan-made habitats are not restored, the species will continue this violent cycle of death and inauguration.

Behavior: Stymphalios is tolerant of most beings as long as they don't upset the natural balance of Skull Island. Being the matriarch of her species, she is usually busy surveying her territory. She seems to view the Iwi with respect, perhaps due the connection that Iwi warriors make with their male Ruktar mounts. Other than them, she seems to view most humans with indifference. Her relations to the other titans vary as well. She shows deep respect towards Kong, but seems to view the other titans with a sense of distaste.

Nevertheless, Stymphalios knows when to put aside the petty grudges she has with the other titans to face the many threats that stem from the underbelly of the island.

Stymphalios is my own creation.

Thanks!

And yeah, looking back on it, there are several other designs that would probably work better.

Very nice! A Kaiju based on Stymphalian birds is not one you see every day!
