Description     Entering further into the realm of Beiru's folklore and myth, a few accounts by the Ailenas make emphasis of a being known as "The Toxic God", a malevolant force of nature that threatened to eradicate all life within Beiru and possibly beyond. They Ailenas say that their own research into the entity found it had drifted from a far, riding the heavens into Beiru from the nightmare realm ruled by "The Mountain that Thunders Death". Landing in Beiru, it began to grow in size and influence, mant falling before its stature, only to be rise again as its minions of death. The deadly beast was met by the combined might of Mothra, Arasha, Balkan, their families, and "The Red King" (who formed a temporary truce with his enemies in order to vanquish the more terrible threat). After a long and arduous battle, the plague-bringer was vanquished after a combined immolation from all the gods that turned the great behemoth into ash. While the Toxic God may have been defeated, the effects it has had on Beiru extend to this day, its rampage having causes a paradigm shift in the populations of some of the residents, including the more ravenous and destructive beasts that call the region home. The Ailenas speculate themselves that the Toxic God's rampage may have inadvertenly caused a swarm of scarlet demons to rise from the sterilized rivers and lakes, as well as the rampage of the great dragon that decided to burn all of Beiru to the ground after finding itself under far less intensive competition with competiting predators. Mothra and the other gods have done their best to maintain homeostasis within the Beiru region, but while the situation seems under control now, there always remains the possibility that another great threat may rise to demolish Beiru again, one that the Ailenas say may come with the inevitable return of "The Dread God"...

Denizens of Beiru (Part 4/5): JUNGLES

Garogas (Pictoarachne beiruensis; "Painted Spider of Beiru"): A pseudarthropod related to the much more hostile Kumasogami of the scorched plains of the north, this man-sized kaiju is far less aggressive than its volcanic brethren. Garogas tend to make their home in the giant fungi that make up their jungle home, living in colonies ranging from a few dozen to a few thousand individuals. There is a strict hierarchy within these groups, with the colony leaders characterized by deep golden-colored heads, with lower-ranking members having duller, silver, or white-colored heads. Unlike their larger cousins, Garogas are more omnivorous, incorporating a good deal of fungi and plants into their diet as well as meat (usually in the form of smaller kaiju). They use their silk-producing organs to construct elaborate web tunnels within the fungi they live in, which acts as their first line of defense when a predator decides to enter, but mainly as bedding to lay their eggs on. These homes are also home to the Garogas Spider, actually a kaiju mite the size of a rat. They are almost completely dependent on their Garogas hosts to provide them a home, and can only be transferred to other Garogas colonies by hitch-hiking on a wayward individual seeking to join another colony. These arachnids benefit their hosts in removing any pests that may be a detriment to the Garogas eggs, but in some cases, the Garogas Spiders will occasionally eat a couple of eggs in order to satiate themselves.

Kure Kure (Arobealoteuthis thamaui; "Marvelous Tree-Climbing Squid"): A small cephalopod roughly the size of a domestic cat, the Kure Kure is yet another creature that has descended from an ancestral subterranean aquatic dweller that made it into the main Beiru chamber during the Pliocene. Unlike most other creatures descended from such ancestors, the Kure Kure has transcended any connection it had with its watery world and instead spends the entirety of its life in the canopies of Beiru's jungles. Physically, the Kure Kure does not look too different from most typical octopods, though it has acquired various subtle traits that allow for a life in the canopy. The eight arms they possess are much more heavily-muscled and have a flexible inner-supporting structure made of chitin and cartilage. The skin is much thicker and entirely water-repellent, but with enough flexibility to allow for texture transformation of its skin in order to blend into its environment. Their color-changing ability may is even more impressive than typical cephalopods, and combined with its texture changing abilities and incredible intelligence, the Kure Kure is able to mimic more dangerous creatures or disguise itself almost seamlessly into its environment. The Kure Kure is a social creature, living in long-term groups that raise the younger members of their species. They are incredibly fast when swinging through the canopy, with speeds rivaling those of accomplished mammalian brachiators like the gibbon. Because of this masterful locomotion ability (combined with their camouflaging expertise), they are able to not only evade most predators with ease but also adept at stealing objects and teasing with even the most vicious carnivores of the jungle.

Dobra (Deinocephalosaurus aeros; "Terrible Headed Sky Lizard): The Kure Kure's amazing camouflage and locomoting abilities mean that adults are essentially immune to predation, but with one exception: The Dobra. These aerial predators stalk the jungle's canopies with short but broad wings supported by cartilaginous rods that allow them to weave through the canopy. They are the only predator to date that has had regular success in hunting Kure Kure, and that might be due to their echolocation senses, which allow them to detect even the most well-camouflaged Kure Kure. Hooked claws and serrated teeth-like spines adorning the mouth rend through flesh quite easily and efficiently. In addition to these, a pair of horns adorn their head that are used in aerial combat with other Dobras. When facing larger aerial predators, they will spray an explosive gas from their mouths that gives them enough time to retreat into the safety of forests, but they will also sometimes use this to flush out prey from hiding spots. The exact relations of the Dobra are still hazy, with some suggesting it descended from ancient fish or amphibians independently from true tetrapods/amniotes. This could partially explain a somewhat metamorphic lifecycle, with Dobra giving birth to almost fully-aquatic larvae that eventually grow into flying adults within the span of several months, something shared with ancient amphibians and lobe-finned fish, though their origin still remains a mystery.

Spyler (Tricerasauros peltas; "Three-Horned Armored Reptile"): An odd diapsid reptile, this slow-moving dweller of the canopies and understory is a docile omnivore that spends most of its days in search of food. Its four-toed feet, bearing a great deal of resemblance to a chameleon, grab around thick fungal branches with immense gripping strength, giving the Spyler a firm grip as to not get knocked to the forest floor, either by an incoming predator or a when fighting a rival Spyler using the three horns that adorn their heads. Since they are quite slow, they rely on these horns, as well as their spiny backs to protect them from predators. In most cases, a predator will usually retreat due to the difficulty of actually taking down these armored tree dwellers, who can grow to the size of an orangutan. While their horns are used in intraspecific fights, Spylers will usually forgo these battles in exchange for a less violent conflict by communicating their mood and intentions via several pairs of bioluminescent organs running down their belly. Alongside plants, fungi, and the occasional carcass, Spylers will also devour minerals from specific ore deposits scattered throughout their territory. These deposits are located on the ground, so they take extreme caution when descending to feed on their contents, lest they fall prey to any of the regions larger predators.

Barakidon (Alloavis pardoxiensis; "Strange, Different Avian): An odd avian native of Beiru's jungle, the Barakidon are common prey animals that roam the forest floor of Beiru's jungles. They tend to live in groups of around a dozen or so individuals that herd together for safety against the larger carnivores of the pocket. These 15 kg birds seem like easy pickings for any predator that may stumble upon them, but the Barakidon comes with a natural deterrent. When threatened, they will emit a noxious fume of gases from their mouth that dissuaded any potential predator in deciding to devour this little kaiju. The green feathering across their dorsum and bright, red waddle is in fact warning signals of their toxic abilities that wards off predators that have learned their lesson when facing against a Barakidon.

Needlar (Quadroscarabaeus mirificus; "Four-legged Mystery Beetle"): An incredibly odd arthropod, the Needlar remains to this day, the only member of its bizarre family of invertebrates. Possessing only four limbs, it ambles its elephant-sized body across the forest floor in search of low-growing fungi. The body of the Needlar is covered in reinforced metallic armor that protects it from attack, but in addition to this, they also possess razor-sharp hairs growing from their exoskeleton that they can use to fling at their assailant with ease. A pair of antennae mounted on its head have tuned into horn-like spines that can be used to gore and maim those who dare to threaten it. If the spines and horns do not deter the attacker, the Needlar will emit a powerful stream of fire (ignited from various flammable gases stored in its body when digesting food) to dissuade its attacker from continuing the hunt. Occasionally, the Needlar will be seen communing with Garogas, the latter doing so perhaps as a way to heighten the sense of safety hanging around the massive fungivore. The relationship isn't completely one-sided, since if the Garogas benefit the Needlar by acting as extra pairs of eyes (despite its own massive eyes, the Needlar has quite terrible long-range eyesight) to look out and prepare for danger.

Aller (Carnopelta aller; "Armored Meat-Eating Beast"): A reigning apex predator of the jungles, the Aller is a deadly carnivorous beast descended from a group of ancient diapsids. These terrifying predators are armed with a serrated beak and powerful claws to grapple and dispatch prey for consumption. A spiked club of a tail can also be used, though it seems to be something reserved for intraspecific combat. Over 100 meters in length on average, their size and weaponry alone allow them to take down animals as big as themselves, but they possess an ability that can be used to take down even more massive prey. Stored within a sac in its neck are symbiotic fungal spores that the Aller can use to spray at larger prey items. These spores enter the airways of the victim, weakening them as they gasp for air, which enables the Aller to take out its target. It is because of this deadly spray that the Aller can venture into the more open plains unimpeded by some of the other apex predators in the region. This makes them especially dangerous to the Ailenas as very little dares to actually challenge these hunters. Fortunately, the more powerful Shisas, Gigamoths, and Thunder Serpents are immune to the Aller's spores and can prevent an Aller from inflicting serious damage on its surroundings when it decides to go on a rampage. They, like the Pandon, have grown in number after the attack of the Toxic God on Beiru, though exactly why still remains a mystery.

Geruderah (Dynamovenator rattus; "Dynamic Hunter Rodent"): While the Aller is the more commonly seen and thought of threat by the Ailenas in regards to the jungle biome, a more powerful beast lurks within the recesses of the undergrowth: The Geruderah. The largest individuals reach almost 200 meters in length, this titan of the Beiru jungles is thought to be the descendent of an ancient rodent that made its way into the Beiru pocket millions of years ago. It has changed much since its origins, its ever-growing incisors having now evolved into a serrated "beak tooth" that can tear through flesh. It has sacrificed its fur coat and now dawns a hide covered in very small osteoderms, some of these growing into massive spines that emerge from the animal's back. Being a ferocious hunter, it uses both its powerful jaws, clawed forelimbs, and prominent dome-head to batter and bruise smaller prey. Larger quarries are dispatched with the use of a corrosive breath attack that eats away at the hide, making it easier to maim and mangle its potential meal. Two whiskers adorn the face of the Geruderah, highly mobile and whip-like in order to help deliver a lethal killing bite to the prey's neck. Despite its power and ferocity though, the Geruderah rarely ventures from its jungle home, making it far less likely to be encountered than the smaller, but more nomadic Aller.
