All exercises like this, are important! So excellent....with this the spirit of the bison! Well the topic about Native is always a topic in my mind for years and i have stock for that, but never realized. When do u have lot ideas this is normal.....indeed is impossible do all!
This was a random idea?

I see the bison is on diet!

12PeaceArt In reply to DraakeT [2015-11-18 20:58:19 +0000 UTC]

Yes... and I am full of tons of random ideas! hahaha...

I like Native American and native topics as well - and it makes for awesome art! (of course, when done right! lol)

It is a Native American prophecy that the bison will, one day, return like in the days of old, so I thought to do that topic in a way that touches upon the modern.. so I found some stock that would work for that, and put it together...

its not quite how I saw it in my head.. but it works for now! Another day once I am better at this, I will do it again, and perhaps capture that vision.

And yes.. bison is on a diet!

time to time......for me this is enough. don't worry if this is not quite how you saw  in your head, the important is the fun creating!

12PeaceArt In reply to DraakeT [2015-11-19 00:24:45 +0000 UTC]

Nah I don't worry about that so much, NOTHING is how I see it in my head yet.. I have to get much much much better for that... this is a learning process for me.. working on getting a little better.. working on learning what photoshop can do, and what I can do with it and how it all works together..

it is much fun to learn, but at the same time I push myself, because I have much in my head I would love to be able to make a reality in art!

I see words in pictures, and I see pictures in words.. and there are so many beautiful things that I can see! hahahaha..sharing it someday would be wonderful!

Oh yes tutorials when you are learning are cool and so fun! i remember well at 100% that feeling! The best of the fun was watching videotutorials.

Of course tutorials are excellent to understand concepts. but after all is up to you to apply by following your instinct, your sensitivity, your soul, your vision, your taste etc...for this reason reason each expert artist have his own style well defined....unique and inimitable. i mean...sometimes i read: "tutorial effect dragan".....and i laugh! because is impossible recreate that effect! Why? simply because the real original author Dragan...work hours and hours and hours following your own personal perception of the life......Indeed all the copies in circulation are only bad and wrong copies!!
My advice is that to study tutorials with a logical wire well precise! I mean don't study following only random things!

Personally my master was Chris Orwig: www.lynda.com/Chris-Orwig/43-1… on net: youtube etc...u can find others things also free.

but of course i studied also others master like Bert Monroy, Katrin Eismann, Dana Keller, Deke McClelland, Kevin Stohlmeyer, John Derry, Kevin Stohlmeyer, Justin Seeley, Julieanne Kost etc...i can't write all them! www.lynda.com/search?q=photosh… ^Beginner

I studied all: photography included.....Example? A photographer know how compose a shoot with his camera! Photomanipulations following the same rules of real life: Rule of third etc..

But my best and precious master was Dan Margulis
Do you know him? He is the father of the color correction in Photoshop.....he is the maximum authority of this sector. I studied all his life: Books, video tutorials and other thing possible and imaginable. (8 Months to study all .....well English is not my first language.....Are you from United States? Well if yes, you can save 4-5 months......Listening his tutorials of course i was not able to understand each single word...so was more hard learn all! But you can learn double triple faster.... A little video interview here -----> www.danmargulis.it/risorse_alt…
but it is up to you seek all of the material.

Well after all that...When my vision of all was clear and complete......i began to watch photomanipulations relative to real expert people (please don't follow beginners to learn!!!!!!) like for example www.deviantart.com/art/The-Gra… ....but not only....is also important watch tons of Mattepainters they are powerfully because the know how dominate all!
Actually i follow only mattepainters to improve my experience

At the begin i was slave of the tutorials........but at the end of the story im able  to create all by yourself (for example if i want create a Dementor, i will create it by my self)...and of course you'll be able to understand if a tutorial is wrong or right! And trust to me, on youtube or here is full of bad tutorials and people follow those things....so there will be lot of people doing the same mistake!

I don't like many video tutorials for that reason, I find most are not helpful at all, a few teach you concepts and how to use tools that photoshop has, but you are right, none can teach you much outside of tool usage.. how you use those tools is up to you, what they do you can be taught.

I have never tried to recreate anyone's work... I think I might have made an attempt once long ago, and I never tried again as it doesn't help your own work to try.. and you are correct, most tutorials out there are wrong and very very bad. I found one who teaches how to use tools that does a good job, but don't try to recreate anything, just learn the tools.

I have too much of my own art ideas in my head, I don't need anyone elses.

(PS This piece had to do with Native American religion, not someone elses work of art - if language was hard to understand)

I never realized Dan Margulis had books out.. I will take your advice and read his books, yes english is my first language so your right, it will be easier for me to understand..

I will check out the photographer you mentioned as well as the others.

Thank you so much! Very excellent advice you gave!
