Description Inspired by this:Β  Β Sid tried on my glasses. Like most people whose curiosity overwhelmed their need for non-achy heads, he's regretting it.

And he would have really had to bug me about it, since my glasses sit in their case in my bathroom drawer most of the time. I pretty much wear my contacts from waking up until bedtime, unless I scratch my eye or something. Paying for that persistence... poor baby.

Hehe, he should do that for everyone brave enough to try on my glasses!

-4's here, I was lucky to take advantage of an offer that made my newest 2 pairs affordable even with additional 'polishing', or I would be walking around with preservative jars for the same money.

I've gotten this reaction before. But my dad has -7's. Those are some hardcore glasses.

Great luck! I know what you mean. Decent glasses are so expensive. Contacts aren't exactly cheap either, but if you take good care of them you can stretch a batch out over a pretty long period of time. Provided of course your prescription doesn't change, then you're boned regardless of what you have!

Holy hell! Your measuring system for glasses sounds different from the one in the U.S., but I imagine his are on par with my mom's.

I did a quick google search to see if there is a difference in the prescription system. I don't know, but let's just say my vision (without glasses) is blurry and makes it impossible to read numbers or letters unless I have my nose right on top of it, and I can't go around looking for small objects, but I can still make out my cat hiding in a shoebox a few yards away, for example (yeah, she's hiding as I'm typing). I can still make out basic shapes. If I were to lose my one pair and go without for a few weeks, my vision would impaired but not completely debilitated. My dad? First thing he does in the morning is reach for his glasses, which he always keeps on the exact same corner of his nightstand, or he will bump into stuff.

Sounds like yours aren't quite as severe as mine and my mom's, but your dad's is about the same. Large objects and movement are detectable, but it's like walking through forehead-deep Vaseline. *shudder*

D'aww cats and hiding.

Your glasses must be strong... I wonder how your shooting results have been when you still were a cop!Β

Best wishes,

Chris

I see!

So have you scored great results at the shooting range, Diana? What have been your strong sides and weak sides during your cop training, please?

All the best and hugs,

Chris

I share your pain, Di. Though a recent trip to the optician's advised me to wear my contacts five days a week rather than seven…the joys of having shitty vision, eh?

She did warn you Sid.

(I probably should do that too, but vanity wins...) Joy joy ahoy. Oh well, I'm just glad we live in a time and places where these things are available. Can you imagine living in say, Tudor times? We'd be banging into walls left and right.

(Totally with you there. Also, easier for going to the gym/running.)Β

We'd be the laughing stocks of the village! Though those glasses on a stick look pretty cool...

In seriousness, I am very grateful for my contacts.

You're very welcome my dear.
I've done the exact same thing with mum's glasses when I was young. It was so trippy to see things all gobbldygook, like whenever you hold up a magnifying glass far from your face and look through it.

I can relate with Sid. Once I also had to wear strong glasses (yeah, I do wear glasses), but because they were WAY stronger than my previous ones I also got an instant headache.

Being the best friend/guide dog of somebody who is about as close to being blind as you can get without actually being blind, I feel for Sid here; curiosity overwhelmed me when I realised that she stands about an inch away from the mirror when she's applying makeup Also, as an almost-full time wearer of glasses, people doing this to me bugs the shit outta me (my eyesight's crappy, but not crappy enough to get contacts; I don't wear my glasses all the time - just for distance and concentration stuff - so there's not really much point. Like, I have to spend the rest of the day with these on my nose - I don't want your germs, grubby fingerprints, and face grease all over me Also, all the comments about how much I look like either Mrs Doubtfire or Patty Simcox from Grease don't help either (I got vintagey looking frames sort of like thisΒ vintageopticalshop.com/wp/wp-c… under the impression that they'd make me look cool Stupid fucking descision that was)

13foxywolf666 In reply to Prosper-the-XVIII [2015-06-16 13:54:28 +0000 UTC]

Personally, I LOVE that vintage look. If my script wasn't so severe that's probably what I'd get. Alas, I need more round or square frames to hold the Coke bottle bottoms. Don't let the teasers get you down; here's one person who thinks they're cool!

I agree with you when it's random people asking. If I know someone and trust them I don't mind so much, but I remember in school there was a lot of 'oo can I see your glasses.' The evil part of me kinda relished their dazed and pained reactions. I made sure to warn friends though.

I think your friend might have the same issue my mom and I do. Near-sighted to the point of what the hell!
