Sorry for being so late. Your use of colors is very off as you are trying to shade a object with its opposite color, in this case cyan being used to shade red. This does not work as cyan is literally the furthest thing from red, meaning that our brains won't register it as a darker shade but rather a completely different color. What you can/should do is use colors close together on the color well (about 30 H values apart) as those can be registered as shades.
