Personality
POSITIVE TRAITS
Adaptable | Reserved | Gentlemanly | Punctual
Adaptable: Warren, having lived both the life of a pet and that of an independent dog, has always been very flexible. He is not by any means set in a certain way, but is rather open to adjustments and criticism. He has always been able to take it. He lives for change and new situations. He is open to both field work (which takes up most of his time) and desk work, though he prefers the former. While not afraid to get dirty or be under the stress of a delicate situation, he enjoys the breaks he gets filing case files.
Reserved: Though audacious from a career standpoint, when it comes to his personal life, he likes to keep it just that. Personal. He does not think it is anyone's business what he does. Though he feels he has nothing worth hiding, he would rather keep his personal life quiet and out of public light. Who's business is it but his anyway?
Gentlemanly: While Warren does not make a point of making a spectacle of himself, he has no trouble making conversation with others. If he finds someone attractive, Warren may happily engage in polite conversation, or ask to buy them a drink (until Prohibition began, that is). However, he would just as easily tell them that he was interested if the question came up. Not crude or rude, he would rather a more courtly approach to a possible love interest.
Punctual: Warren is never late. Not to meetings, not to work, and certainly not on assignments. He is often irritated by the lack of this trait in others.
NEUTRAL TRAITS
Calculated | Assertive | Opinionated | Self Conscious | Practical | Tidy
Calculated: He's intelligent and self-aware, just as well as he is aware of his surroundings and others. His decisions are not made on a whim, but rather carefully examined beforehand. He is careful and clever, as any good investigator should be. But as sure as he tries to be, the outcome is not always what he predicted or hoped for. This can bring him to trouble down the road, a lack of adventure, and missed opportunities.
Assertive: Warren wants to do things his way, even if not for the best. He dislikes following orders like a "stinking pet" might do. He is hard headed and will hold his own, but has trouble sometimes following orders. He would, however, expect his own orders to be followed and it greatly frustrates him when they are not.
Opinionated: Warren dislikes the notion of any dog willingly being a pet, finding it an incredibly dependent and stupid lifestyle. He hates that he once was one and resents the way his parents lived. Though they were kind to him and he is likely to keep such opinions to himself, he is not so hesitant as to form them. Why should anyone let another spoonfeed them when they could be making it out in the world on their own? Pertaining to criminals and those under his custody, he is sure to have a very stiff mindset. They did it, or else he would not have made the arrest.
Self Conscious: Warren is very aware of how he is seen in the eye of others. His public image is incredibly valuable to him and is careful not to have it tarnished. He knows that whatever way you are written about in the papers is the way others will view you. Thus, he keeps his private life as private as possible. It is for this reason that he hardly discusses his parents or his most formative years.
Practical: He's not exactly a far-fetched dreamer. Warren prefers a logical approach with a definite means-to-an-end rather than hoping for a wish to come true. He is a planner and an organizer and feels safest when he can see the end result before he's begun.
Tidy: Warren is neat and well kept, from the way he keeps his living quarters to his work space, his clothes to his coat. Messy dogs and habits tend to irritate him and he is appalled by disorganization and clutter.
NEGATIVE TRAITS
Stage Fright | Prejudicial | Soft | Beguiling | Irritable
Stage Fright: Warren performs poorly in the face of the press. Though good with small talk, he is terrible with interviews, quotes, etc. Reporters make him nervous, often causing him to babble during reports or say things he does not mean to.
Prejudicial: Warren makes assumptions about dogs based on their occupations or living styles. He does not approve of pets, the unemployed, and more often than not, those working jobs at the press. In his opinion, press dogs are for the most part cheap-bought, sly animals that will do anything it takes to get their story.
Soft: He didn't grow up in the thick of it, and he has always had a comfortable life. He's grown up a little too soft for the streets and though is self sufficient, hasn't had the chance to see the more frightening side of the world.
Beguiling: Though he's never really had to tough it out on the streets, he has found a way to get what it is that he'd like from others. He likes admiration, but not necessarily from the press. Dogs who show an interest in him make good fun for Warren. While he pursues true love interests, he will often toy with those he has no real investment in.
Irritable: This guy can become a grump pretty quickly. If someone is annoying him, he is hard pressed not to show it. Little noises can get on his nerves and he doesn't appreciate constant jabbering.
DEVELOPING TRAITS
Callousness | Ambitious
Callousness: His experience with the press and poor performance with them has lead to his annoyance with them. The things he sees as an intern coupled with it are teaching him rather quickly that you can't feel too much remorse in this line of work, or it will eat away at you.
Ambitious: Lately, he's hungered for more. And by God, does he plan to achieve more.
Pre-group History
Warren was born in 1895 New York City to two loving parents, both of which were pets to middle-class humans. Though they were loyal to their humans, they quietly supported the rights for dogs to be recognized as individuals.
He enjoyed a happy puppyhood, but with protests rising in the city and across the country, Warren had to grow up quickly. At 4 years old, papers flew through the town depicting captured dogs in Boston and protests ranging across the nation. When news spread, protests began in New York as well. Because of them, Warren's parents sent their son on the next train for the only place known to be safe from the law's touch -- Canine Cove, Boston, Massachusetts.
He grew up there under the care of an aunt, where he was educated and properly socialized in the canine world. Canine Cove quickly became his home and he wished to make it so for his parents as well. Properly trained in reading and writing, Warren had become quite good at it. He wrote to them, asking them to join him there. However, despite the gained recognition dogs had received as sentient beings, his parents still preferred being provided for and taken care of by their humans, wary of the lifestyle other dogs chose to lead. Like others, they were scared. He was disgusted with the choice, and simply ceased further contact with them. He refused to be further affiliated with those who chose that lifestyle. He saw it as their right, hard bought and fought for, and believes those choosing the life of a pet are throwing away the freedoms they had been given.
As he aged, he became increasingly interested in law and its functions. However, he did not wish to become a lawyer. He was far more interested in the legwork. It intrigued him, and with the freedoms dogs had gained, Warren believed fully in the need for a protecter of those rights. He began studying forensic sciences and reading up on human police reports.
The war began, and his father joined with his owner, just as his father had in the war before. He was killed in England during a bomb raid. Though he’d been cut off from his father, he still mourned the loss and quickly shook his adolescence. Even today, he still owns the only item his father had worn other than a collar: his watch.
A rough and tough New Yorker, Warren put down the books at the age of 28 and instead picked up work. He was done with desk jobs and wanted something in the field that required quick paws and a brain. Anyone could read, after all. Warren wanted to act. He wanted to be a protector of the rights that dogs had obtained during his lifetime and someone who investigated crimes that the humans refused to. H began studying for police work instead. The Canine Cove Detective Agency had been around for some time, and it seemed a stable enough place to begin his career. He trusted the agency and its members to seek justice in every crack and cranny. The place gave him a sense of belonging he'd always resented his pet life for stripping him of in Canine Cove. The world seemed open and new, and the new faces he met made him excited for what the future would hold for him.
Group History
Warren began work as an intern at the CCDA, where he made his acquaintance with big shots Brighton Blakely and Viktor Vallier. He also met other interns Aoife Ryan and Clarence Fynch. Both made their impressions on him, though vastly different. He worked for some time as a desk neighbor to Fynch during his time as an intern, which he continued to use during his time as an assistant. The airedale, while annoying, proved to be an amiable companion despite their strained relationship. While standing as rivals, the two competed with one another to move up in the ranks at CCDA.
Two years after beginning as an intern and a bit of work on two agency wide cases, Warren was promoted to the position of homicide detective, serving just beneath DI Raymond Howards. There, he continues to find his way and make a name for himself in the investigative world.
