Helga had just turned 3. There was an ice cream cake, presents, and Anna, Kristoff, Olaf, and Sven had come too. Frankly Elsa couldn't remember a moment when she had seen her little girl so happy.
There was a card from Hans, but it wouldn't be given to Helga. Elsa would read it and then put it in a drawer. She would tell Helga who her father really was. Eventually. Maybe. All Helga needed to know right now is that her father was funny, charming, handsome, clever, and strong. That's all she needed to know. It's all any little girl should think of her father.
Everyone had just left, and Helga was trying to stay awake and play with the carved reindeer her uncle had gifted her with. She blinked, her eyes almost staying shut, and she smacked her lips.
"Time for bed snowflake..." Elsa said, picking up a paper plate and putting it in a garbage bag.
"No..." Helga whined, scooting away from her mother and crawling up onto the couch.
Elsa chuckled and picked up some wrapping paper, before putting her bag on the floor and sitting beside her daughter. "Well you might not be tired, but I am." Elsa stretched out on the couch and laid her head on Helga's legs. "I might go to sleep right here..."
Helga grumbled and tried in vain to move her mother's head. "That's not fair! You're scishing me!" Helga whined.
Elsa smiled and leaned up to plant a quick kiss on Helga's pudgy and rosy cheek. She scooped the now giggling girl up and carried her off to bed.
Elsa lingered in the doorway and watched the hall light shine on Helga's face, so much like her own, but having some characteristics like Hans. Like her red hair. Her smile. She had his laugh. Sometimes it was almost painful how much she was so much like the man that she wouldn't see ever again. Sometimes she cursed that ball that he had showed up at after his punishment had been served. She cursed how handsome he was and how easy she was. Elsa wouldn't trade the result of a couple hookups with the southern prince for anything. Helga was her world now. She didn't know what she would do without her.

Elsa choked on her coffee as she read the letter from King Adam. She reread it. Five times in fact. An island was being used to contain every villain that had ever been. Including any of their children... There was a special clause about half blood children, which is what Helga was. Elsa had never thought of her daughter like that. She had a week to get her affairs in order.
Anna of course was willing to baby sit Helga, allowing Elsa to see King Adam in person and appeal for Helga to be able to stay. They spent the whole morning deliberating, but in the end, no matter how Elsa reasoned it, the law was clear and binding. However, there was one thing that could be allowed for her. Elsa would be able to take Helga over herself and say goodbye, as well as explain the situation to Helga's father.

That's exactly what Elsa did. She spent the rest of the week doing anything that Helga wanted and spending every second that she had with her. When the time finally came to leave Helga with the confused Hans, Elsa picked up her daughter and held her close, kissing her forehead. "Mama is so sorry she couldn't protect you Snowflake...so sorry..." Elsa placed one more kiss on Helga's cheek before passing her off to Hans and walking away as fast as she could and not looking back.
