Description "Rachel Alexandra", current Horse of the Year, walks past me on April 30th for the La Troienne Stakes. It was a pretty spectacular moment for me. To be that close to a champion.

I love my job, and I'm very fond of the athletes I work with. All images are Β©copyright 1pen and my sports media company. You may NOT use, replicate, manipulate, or modify this image without my permission. All Rights Reserved.

It was really amazing. I couldn't believe it myself. Now, I just have to go see Zenyatta before they retire her!

Seriously. I was that close to her. I could have reached out and hugged and kissed her...except the marine standing next to me might have tackled me.

My seat was actually way up...very top row in clubhouse, but I noticed when she came out of the barn that NO ONE was by the rail and I was like...what the heck?!, you know? So I walked down and asked the photographers if they cared if I snuck by them and they just smiled and waved me in so I got to get so much closer to her than I ever thought I'd be able to. I was the biggest baby. I was crying, like sobbing, when I came back to my seat...it was such an amazing experience for me. Me, the one who lives more than a thousand miles from any serious track, to get that close to a Horse of the Year...it was incredible.

I can only imagine. My secret little wish is that she ends up in Saratoga for the Woodward again... it's being run on my birthday this year, and I'm going. On my birthday.

Best birthday present ever, suffice to say.

I hope for you that they choose to. I was so thrilled he chose to let the Derby crowds(well, the Oaks, but honestly it's pretty much the same group of people) enjoy her by entering her in the La Troienne. He didn't have to. She wasn't completely fit or ready. I think he, once again, did it for us. And I won't forget it. Even if she lost by a head. I got to see her. Doesn't change for me at all what she did last year.

Actually, she passed the sheet out of Unrivaled Belle not a half second later. She was lengths and lengths ahead of her in the gallop out. I saw it and was crazy impressed with her. It was just as Jackson's wife said after the race (they played her interview over the loudspeaker) for the Breast Cancer ceremony they held...Rachel Alexandra never gives up. She really didn't. She's still Rachel.

I would bet anything Unrivaled Belle flops in her next. That's not to say she's no good, because clearly she's very good, but Rachel's done it to everyone she's ever eyeballed... she's still a monster, and she'll be back.

I think Unrivaled Belle is a good horse. I do. I made a point to get pictures of her as well. But I also believe Rachel will get the better of her, as she did Zardana.

Oh wait, yes we do. 102 and 95. So basically they're still around the same level, time-wise.

And apparently the both of them earned 103 Beyers, which is three points up on the New Orleans Ladies 100 and only one point down on Super Saver's Derby 104... do we know what Zenyatta got in her two starts of the year?

must have been an amazing feeling to be so close...

I'll never forget getting the opportunity to pet barbaro. He was an incredible horse, I'll never forget him or my experience with him.

I bet, i would be too!

yes i live in PA. When he was at the stage where they thought he would make it, a horse at my barn i love dearly choked on beat pulp and i was in tears when visiting him at New Bolton. His dear owner Gretchen saw me and wanted to cheer me up by "Wanna come meet my horse?" at first i didnt recognize her...but then when i saw she was leading me to barbaro's stall i like, flipped out. She's such a nice lady. Barbaro was inredibly sweet... loved that horse. i'll never forget that experience.

i was so devastated when I found out he passed.
