I was also fortunate to catch her out of the hangar during my visit too. Somehow I don't think it would have quite felt like I'd properly seen her if I had not seen her on the ground, outside in the open air, so that pleased me greatly.
It's a wonderful shot and I look forward to seeing those other photos you mentioned in your other message, when they do make it on here/ @)

It was seeing her on the ground that made it for me, as did getting up close to NX611. I've only ever previously seen Lancs on the ground in hangars, so seeing both outside and running was just astoundingΒ

You really must try and get over to East Kirkby for their Night Taxi and Firework display too. For me that event is the highlight of the season, regardless of seeing nothing fly. They allow you much closer access to Just Jane than you had at the three Lancaster event. Both during the day and at night so it's great for photography. Β She is usually positioned just outside the main hangar with full access entirely around her. There is a barrier so you can't get right up to her but you can still get nice and close to her, and this plays into the photographers hand as you can usually get nice unobstructed views with no more than re-enactors in the way. Which is nice for photography too.
You are mere feet away from her while she is running her engines. The wings actually are over the crowd sometimes. The last time I was standing right under her wing with her engines on full pelt. Wow than noise! And during the night run you can see all the sparks flying from the exhaust.
The Fireworks are worth the entry price too, let alone the taxi runs and the whole museum to mooch around. It's a great event with one of the nicest atmospheres you are likely to find. I can't recommend it enough. It's also worth taking one of the Queen Mary tours around the abandoned parts of the former airfield.

That's fair enough, but do try and make the event at some point in the future. It's a most humbling experience to see a Lancaster taxi off into the night on an airfield with such history, I think you would appreciate it.
I will hopefully be there as it's one of my not to be missed events. It provides that much needed last event before the long aviationless winter and I do love the atmosphere.Β
