His expression just makes the drawing that much more interesting - I may be generalizing, but herons often get characterized as rather austere and noble, but there's definitely some mischief in this fellow. I'd like to know more about his character

Herons do usually look rather stately, but round here among the rocky, higgledy-piggledy rivers they look less sure of themselves...
