Description "While there sure's a lot ta gain from huntin one down-- they don't go down easy and they sure as hell will make it your problem. Make sure you keep track of where yer goin' when travelin by the river." - Dann O'Farber
-------------------------------------
Dobar-Chu are a species of Mammals native to the rivers Β and estuary connected to the territory of Nauxes. They're well-known as a somewhat sucessful predator with a reputation to outmaneuver larger prey and crush their skulls from behind with a debillitating bite.
Dobar-Chu are mostly scavengers, opting to search the riverbed for whatever might be considered edible. Shellfish, Freshwater Urchins, and bottom-dwelling fish. They are not opposed to taking an opportunity to land larger food when given the chance, as their sleek build and oily fur allows them to minimize drag and efficiently hunt against the current if needbe.

Male individuals posses a vibrant nose pattern that acts as a display of their health to potential mates, but will also brighten in color if they're angered or feel threatened. Females notably have much shorter whiskers and do not posses the same vibrant snout -- but are more prone to lashing out when approached.
Dobar-Chu live in small groups and will build large nests out of dead wood and various husks to safely guard their young. They're incredibly territorial, and there will always be at least one adult near the nest while the other scavenges.

Dobar-Chu aren't especially diverse in their adaptations, relying mostly on their bite and quick bursts of speed on land and in the water to disorient attackers. Despite their reputation, Dobar-Chu aren't nearly as active as one might assume. As they spend a lot of time conserving energy in case of an emergency-- jumping to violence if their intimidation tactics fail. Typically they'll start to chitter and bark before they begin lunging at their problems.Β

Many reports have noted that Dobar-Chu are remarkably intelligent-- bringing bodies of wounded or completely incapacitated fauna to their nests to lure in additional scavengers they they will then feed on. The young also have been observed to "play" with one another by tossing around urchins of fruit husks back and forth like a game of catch.
...Just don't let your kids get near them.. please.
--------------------------
Chef's note: Dobar-Chu meat is incredibly gamey due to their varied diet, however their pelt and oils can be used to make waterproof equipment that is sold for a pretty price in most markets. Sometimes you can find their meat being dried and used as incredibly expensive jerky, which is apparently an "Acquired taste."
There's also some records of Adventurers taming them to act as incredibly efficent hunting companians-- although it's not advised that one attempts this as it frequently involves getting between parent and child.
Verdict: Maybe don't eat this one. just aim for gathering their oils.

An Arcovean Animal that doesn't use magic? WOAH
These guys are based on a monster from Irish Folklore of the same name-- "Dobhar Chu" also known as the "King Otter."
