Description Happy Easter Everyone. I hope you are all enjoying this special day of the year. I've actually been looking forward to this day for a while. I was saving something special for today, but.... as always my plans have run into some obstacles.
You see, my original idea for Easter or rather the Easter Weekend, maybe even Good Friday, was to start with my very first character analysis, where I would introduce a character not very well known and do a character study of them, in hopes to draw attention to the stories they come from. My first choice for a character study, was Sister Helen, from Osamu Tezuka's manga, Ode to Kirihito. A nun who falls victim to a strange apocalyptical disease that changes the victim's into something close to dogs, as seen above. After which, she becomes an outcast of society, nearly murdered by her church's priest, seen as an abomination, and other things I won't say. But through it all, she is still devoted to her faith and becomes a helper to the sick and dying.
My original idea was to go through her entire storyline within the manga, not only discussing how she grows as a character, but also tackle on Tezuka's themes on Christianity. Tackling many sides to it.
However..... I did not have time for this one, but outside of that problem. I..... don't know if it's the right time to talk about this manga yet. This is a very heavy story to tackle, given it was written during Tezuka's dark years, where he wrote more darker tone manga tackling many taboo subject matter of the time, and often writing stories around humanity's worst aspects, due to Tezuka being in a very bad place mentally at the time. I have a strange fascination with Tezuka's Dark age works, as they often are very topical, extremely experimental and... like these works or not... do present some of tezuka's best artistic scenes ever produced in his lifetime. But given the heavy subject matter, as well topics that may hit way too close to home, (that and half of the characters from this period of manga committing very deplorable acts that rob any sympathy from the readers) I decided that it's best not to tackle this manga just yet. Especially since this one needs a ton of research on it, and I would have to read through all 20 chapters of this manga. That may not sound a lot to you, but some of these chapters can be VERY LONG.
So I'll save this review for another time. In the meanwhile, while I do want to draw something for Easter, I must still be clear that I have a very special request I need to get done, in about two to three days. So please DO NOT interrupt me doing these next coming days. I have to stay focused and deliver this request as soon as possible before time runs out. I'll see you all later.
