Description

connections:
Both are black-gray themed, cunning, arrogant yet calm primary antagonists who are the most iconic one of their respective mediums and were taken in by an elite fighting force of peace keeping, mystical warriors at a young age (The Jedi/SOLDIER program).

Both eventually became one of the greatest and most powerful members of said fighting force at their time, by being immensly skilled in terms of the use of deeply spiritual and mystical arts (The Force/Materia as well as the Lifestream) and have various forms of combat where they wield a dangerous yet iconic sword (which is relatively unique to them) as their primary weapon (Lightsaber/Masamune).

Both had a younger apprentice who would constantly go on missions with them (Ahsoka Tano/Zack Fair) and were also blessed with power far beyond their peers (Anakin being the Chosen One/Sephiroth being imbued with Jenova cells) with the only difference being that Anakin was considered to have that title in the public while Sephiroth’s case was in secret.

Eventually, both found out the harsh truth of them being lied to their entire life and having an association with a woman important to them, fueling them with negative emotions and descending into darkness which caused them to turn on their comrades (Anakin turned into the Dark Side, becoming Darth Vader because he’d thought that he’d save his wife, Padme, as well as finding out the lies from the Jedi/Sephiroth finding out that he is part of the Jevona project in secret from the Hojo Records).

In fact, their descent to darkness stems from an crazy, manipulative, old man with a fondness of fucked up experiments (Emperor Palpatine manipulating Anakin to become Darth Vader in the Dark Side/Professor Hojo being responsible for the Jenova Project).

After this shift and betrayal, both started a killing spree and rampage (Order 66/Nibelheim Incident) until they were stopped by another sword wielding hero who happens to be their former comrades (Obi-Wan Kenobi/Cloud Strife) who were thought to have killed our combatants for good but they ended up surviving and only grown more powerful, Darth Vader mostly started the Galactic Empire whilst Sephiroth left the Shinra Electric Power Company.

However, a rag tag group of rebel heroes rose up to take them down (The Rebel Alliance/AVALANCHE) with a rebel, young blond, sword wielding hero who left the comfort of their home was destroyed to which our combatants are associated with (Darth Vader’s troops destroying Luke’s farms and killing his family/Sephiroth destroying Nibelheim, Cloud’s village).

Their abilities also line up decently well, with both having mind related attacks like conjuring illusions, protective barriers, telekinesis and control elements for some times in Vader’s case.

Both are also known to strike fear and despair to others hearts (Darth Vader turning Jedi’s to the Dark Side, one obscure but notable example is that one time where he forced Gira to descend to the Dark Side otherwise he kills the Padawans but Vader killed them anyways, then he goes “do what you want idc lol” before leaving him alone to commit Seppuku/Sephiroth’s whole deal).

Their sagas were also in three parts, first of which ended with the rebels against the dictatorship storming their headquarters (The Death Star/Shinra HQ).

Despite having their influence being responsible for tragedies, they do not command their empire as they are led by older, higher powers who (usually) not to fight but rather sit back and watch the events unfold (Emperor Palpatine…again/President Shinra) but they end up killing them later within the story.

Upon their inevitable defeat, Vader regained his humanity and redeeming himself, becoming Anakin once more while Sephiroth’s hatred of humanity grew and ascended to become a god.
