This is so helpful, I couldn't find it when I was writing a comment for someone so this has been bookmarked!

For me personally (as I am not a frequent commenter due to my limited knowledge of the arts) this is extremely helpful and I hope to apply this knowledge

THIS is the most useful guideline to commenting I've EVER read! Especially for me, cause I very much struggle with English vocabulary (haven't used this language for more than 10 years now and am very rusty with words). So far I had the feeling I used the same three words over and over again in comments. That's going to change right now, thanks to your journal!
I'm really grateful I found your group.

Based on this guide, I should accentuate the positive aspects more often. I have a history of criticizing the negatives too much. (I dish out more constructive critiques on fanfics than on art.)
This quote by Johannes Kepler laid the foundations on my approach: "I much prefer the sharpest criticism of a single intelligent person to the thoughtless approval of the masses." I feel as if this approach is necessary to take.

I think these two articles would help explain our view on including the positives:
Comment Support Group #3 - Constructive PraiseIntro
My name is _______ and I am a commenter…
Well, of course you are! If you are reading this, more than likely you are a commenter, and what commenter doesn't have concerns, problems, issues or more with commenting?
That is why ProjectComment has formed a Comment Support Group to help people with commenting. To be utterly honest, we can't improve your commenting skills for you, but we can help you improve only if you want to improve.
Both commenting and improvement are individual processes. It's up to you to become a better commenter, but that doesn't mean you have to go it alone!
We are here to foster a group where commenters feel safe, where commenters feel they have the right to share their thoughts, feelings and more about commenting, where commenters have the right to open up, seek advice and get the support they deserve.
None of us are here to make fun or criticize. We are here to encourage commen

Why use praise?
Sometimes, one may think there aren’t “praise-worthy” elements in a piece, so only flaws are mentioned.
Praise can be used to create balance in your comment, thus showing the artist that the piece isn't “all bad”, even if the artist still has a long way to go before becoming, artistica

How do you keep comments, concise, polite, and to the point? I just commented on one piece and psyched myself out about this at two o'clock in the morning. I know being informative is important but I don't want my comment to end up becoming a mini tutorial at more than 211 words a comment.

I have a question, what happens if we commented on a 6-7 lines comment art but our comments are more than 6-7 lines. Should we answer less on your questions about constructive commenting?

Thank you so much for making this precious gem! Faved because it is extremely useful and it can help me with vocabulary since English is not my first language and i don't want to have a limited vocabulary, this can invalidate my comments or critiques. Thank you again!

Hmm this seems a bit overwhelming at first....Until I realized I never really look at photography(Its not something that interests me very much)And when I realized I could probably just skip most of the literature because I Mainly write myself(even if im in the eighth grade)SO if anything Literature is my forte and actual drawings Is secondary....Fantastic!
