ProjectComment believes every single person on DeviantArt can write a constructive comment, but constructive commenting is not necessarily easy for us. That is why we have produced this article of questions, written with the intention to guide you in your constructive commenting should you need additional support.

Take note that the following should be used as a guide and basic foundation for your comment, not to be used or interpreted as a checklist or minimum required by ProjectComment . The below should help you expand upon your own comment, as we do not accept comments that are itemized lists. What is a Constructive Comment?

THIS is the most useful guideline to commenting I've EVER read! Especially for me, cause I very much struggle with English vocabulary (haven't used this language for more than 10 years now and am very rusty with words). So far I had the feeling I used the same three words over and over again in comments. That's going to change right now, thanks to your journal!
I'm really grateful I found your group.

Based on this guide, I should accentuate the positive aspects more often. I have a history of criticizing the negatives too much. (I dish out more constructive critiques on fanfics than on art.)

This quote by Johannes Kepler laid the foundations on my approach: "I much prefer the sharpest criticism of a single intelligent person to the thoughtless approval of the masses." I feel as if this approach is necessary to take.

Comment Support Group #3 - Constructive PraiseIntro
My name is _______ and I am a commenter…
Well, of course you are! If you are reading this, more than likely you are a commenter, and what commenter doesn't have concerns, problems, issues or more with commenting?
That is why ProjectComment has formed a Comment Support Group to help people with commenting. To be utterly honest, we can't improve your commenting skills for you, but we can help you improve only if you want to improve.
Both commenting and improvement are individual processes. It's up to you to become a better commenter, but that doesn't mean you have to go it alone!
We are here to foster a group where commenters feel safe, where commenters feel they have the right to share their thoughts, feelings and more about commenting, where commenters have the right to open up, seek advice and get the support they deserve.
None of us are here to make fun or criticize. We are here to encourage commen Comment Support #3B - Constructive PraiseMany thanks to the below for joining our third session on

Why use praise?
Sometimes, one may think there aren’t “praise-worthy” elements in a piece, so only flaws are mentioned.
Praise can be used to create balance in your comment, thus showing the artist that the piece isn't “all bad”, even if the artist still has a long way to go before becoming, artistica

How do you keep comments, concise, polite, and to the point? I just commented on one piece and psyched myself out about this at two o'clock in the morning. I know being informative is important but I don't want my comment to end up becoming a mini tutorial at more than 211 words a comment.

this is EXTREMELY helpful, - I love writing long constructive comments on peoples artwork, I don't think I've ever just said 'cute' or 'cool', before. - As I want to be a professional critique and artist, this will help me very much

That's very detailed, seems helpful! It's good to have a list of pointers available, it can be hard to write a good comment I like the coding here, too!

Thank you so much for making this precious gem! Faved because it is extremely useful and it can help me with vocabulary since English is not my first language and i don't want to have a limited vocabulary, this can invalidate my comments or critiques. Thank you again!

Hmm this seems a bit overwhelming at first....Until I realized I never really look at photography(Its not something that interests me very much)And when I realized I could probably just skip most of the literature because I Mainly write myself(even if im in the eighth grade)SO if anything Literature is my forte and actual drawings Is secondary....Fantastic!

That sounds good to me! Certainly, one doesn't have to answer every single question here in a comment.

Also In order for one to keep being apart of this group, We just have to keep trying to help people out through comments?

You don't have to. We don't demand activity of our members. If you are not active, we won't kick you out.
