yeah, this might be one of the worst designs you ever made, but its still awesome and thousand times better than most.

If I made this now, I would not bother to get this transform robot bull shit, and would just be a straight forward tank straight forward plane. The construction too boxy, now days I would use surface transition instead of box on top of box. In any mech I would not add useless geometries, it should be somewhat smooth.

i see your points, and quite honestly, im making those same mistakes.
but on the other hand, i love raw industrial design, so i can also appreciate box on top of box design stuph.
you have to be really really , like really, good to achieve realistic impression with stylish curvy design.
im not that good..

I know that things standout with edges, but structural integrity is a settle quality that you can only notice if you take a second look on things. Two factors support minimal and curve transition is first you realize things can go wrong when edged construct bump into something, cause both hazard to the victim and itself. Even with immortal god emperor it still collect dirt and shit, That's what we mean structural integrity, the other is how far you can zoom out and still recognizable, a super detailed design may look like a random mess from far away. This means when things have to take a tiny space on the canvas, some information can be safely ignored and the proxy still carry an identity. This means all the detail feature have to be peripheral and not part of the construct.

The difficulty with drawing a curvy design is the limitation of line art, you cannot fully express the gradual transition of a geometry with a binary quality to turn or not to turn. You will need some degree of shading to see what its like, and formation with lighting is often the skill to be handled after the mastery of drawing with lines. What mostly being used as a bridge between the two technique is pylon approximation, this is a very popular technique in mech illustration. It both communicate the wholeness of a curvy construct, it also introduce edges that bring attention.

Ha, I wish I could make such "Awful" stuff.

Try not to diss your own work because its not a good thing for your mind.
Maybe its not your best but you will do better and no one makes the good stuff out of nowhere.
Without the awful stuff you will not get to the better/good/great stuff.

Keep your "failures" too, nothing like looking back when it seems that you are not going anywhere.

4-X-S In reply to sevenofeleven [2011-01-26 23:19:32 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for appreciate my progress, I don't think its really "diss", its just a motivation to improve I guess. It wasn't that "awful" back then but I now know better than when I made that thing. I have never studied art professionally, its just an entertainment to be "productive".

Keep banging away then and enjoy the view.

Just for laughs, "Unmanned" can also mean "Gelded" or "Castrated".
Probably only a concern if you have Robots/Mechs that get frisky.
A recently unmanned mech might need that extra support of a hug.

Playing with words can be fun.

4-X-S In reply to sevenofeleven [2011-01-29 04:00:53 +0000 UTC]

Errr, word games are fine, but my intention with this "unmanned" thing has something to do with Engineering. Its easier to design a unmanned machine that the one with pilot that the one with passengers that the one with tourists... It can be made into wild shape without worry about "life support".

Put a camera on it and the tourists can watch safely at home.

I will be watching, Um, not in a stalker sense for more stuff from you.

So slow and miserable.

Did you know the U.S. Army has had walker technology since 1960?
The AT-AT of Star Wars was actually inspired from the Walking Truck...walker designed for the jungles of Vietnam.
