Description Every great magic trick consists of three parts or acts. The first part is called "The Pledge". The magician shows you something ordinary: a deck of cards, a bird or a man. He shows you this object. Perhaps he asks you to inspect it to see if it is indeed real, unaltered, normal. But of course... it probably isn't. The second act is called "The Turn". The magician takes the ordinary something and makes it do something extraordinary. Now you're looking for the
secret... but you won't find it, because of course you're not really looking. You don't really want to know. You want to be fooled. But you wouldn't clap yet. Because making something disappear isn't enough; you have to bring it back. That's why every magic trick has a third act, the hardest part, the part we call "The Prestige"."

your welcome how did you do it?

Oooh blimey now that's a question and a half. The basic set up was a black sheet for the background,a table lamp for lighting and a tripod.
You want as much as light as you can get to allow you to use a high shutter speed (the smoke can move deceptively fast)and a small aperture to keep everything in focus.
If your camera has a continuous shooting mode that can be a great help too.
The hardest part of it all for me is angling the light source so that the smoke is iluminated without catching the backdrop.Without a professional studio and lighting equipment I find I have to clone a fair few imperfections from the background to keep it all a constant black.

Natural light can work well for lighting smoke but it can be hard to keep it from filling to much of the background. One way is too work on the floor below the window sill, that way the light falls on to the subject but the backdrop stays in shadow.

Sorry for the slow response but I hope that helps a little

Beautiful shot.
Though, until I read the explanation, I thought this was a picture of love dying out.
Since the tip of the smoke near the hand is red-orange [like still the burning flame of love]. The white is like the transition when you feel emotionless. Empty. And then it turns to cold - maybe regret or depression.

Maybe that is also a sort of magic - love and heartbreak - having one emotion, erasing it and creating a different one. Magic is not always good, so I guess this is also magic.

Beautiful shot!~

Okay, I just saw this movie 2 days ago and it was amazing! Sad too, but still great. I like how the smoke shifts colors and how the two shades almost seem to be comflicting. Sort of like the movie again...eh heh...Nice editting as well, your images are always so sharp and crisp.
