Thanks. The green colour does have a strange look about it ,I think its because of the way i mixe3d the colours using both washing upb liquid and for some strange reason soy sauce

Really nice ! I would say surreal or abstract depending on what you have in mind with this and if you use it for a particular purpose. This is great anyway

No purpose really ,I was just experimenting and trying to capture the perfect splash wich still eludes me -sigh-

Haven't seen you in awhile.

Abstract, probably.

I like how it goes from dark to light corner to corner - adds interest. It's a bit grainy, though...

Yeah I hit a wall in terms of picture ideas lately so ive not posted as much.Your right about the gran but so many of my pictures suffer from it Ive given up worrying till I get a decent light source for shots like this

Oh, really? Hmm, maybe try doing silhouettes in the smoke or something? (I've seen a few with that, and they look spectacular.)

Oh, speaking of you. I was at this art fest earlier today and it was raining, and I decided to try taking some of your-style photos while listening to the music. It was quite cool. I haven't seen them to see how they turned out, but if any are postable I'll credit you for inspiration.

Oooh I like the sound of that idea, think Ill have a crack at that tomorrow

What type of pictures have you taken,is it splashes and stuff like that?Ill look forward to seeing them, dont worry about credits or anything like that though god knows none of my pictures are original enough to claim ownership of an idea or theme.

Looking forward to them.

Mostly. I think the best of them were these big barrel that they used to weight things down - the water collected on top shook with some of the louder music. Dunno when I'll post, I'm rather bogged down right now with writing affairs.

Your a writer aswell?

dresdenblue In reply to 4420 [2007-06-04 20:19:03 +0000 UTC]

Yep. I'm more of a writer than a photographer, actually - I actually get my feelings/views out in writing, versus photography where I just take pictures of pretty things that catch my eye, nothing too conceptual.

Im much the same as far as photography goes,if it looks good Ill take a picture I dont go in for the conceptual too much.Conceptual I tend to feel takes more talent I have, when it works its fantastic but if you just dont hit the right note it can come across as overly pretentious and a little tacky.
Writing is a far better way to vent frustrations and offer views and opinions without it being too in your face.

I agree completely. Sometimes I look at conceptual stuff and go, That's just brilliant and awesome and such... but I'd never be able to come up with that. I'm experimenting a bit, but it doesn't mean that I'm going to be succesfull. Being able to identify something as aesthetic is one thing, getting a complex message across without words is quite another.

Ooops I meant to say 'more talent THAN I have ' ,that must have sounded really arogant.
Your right a good conceptual is far harder to take than a more middle of the road photo.Having said that though I would not be sursprised if a fair few of even the best conceptuals were taken with no such intent and only an eye for the visual.A fair whack of the time its a title that add's meaning more than the image itself.

dresdenblue In reply to 4420 [2007-06-08 03:38:25 +0000 UTC]

I got what you meant, no worries.

Well, then it's not conceptual... the key bit is 'concept'. The aesthetic as a concept doesn't really count. I'm sure people post things that are just aesthetic and with no real intent at meaning here as conceptual, but they're... not.

For me, a title explains what I personally get from the picture. Like a Dali, if you really try and interpret one of those, you'll get something completely different. But if you look at his titles - sometimes - they'll give a hint as to what he intends as the interpretation. It's just part of the art as far as I'm concerned. *shrug*
