Another digitally colored photo from my sketchbook! (I decided to just crop out the edges of the book, but you can see the unedited version on my social media below)EDIT: went back in and dramatically darkened the bg (one of things I hate about these edits is it's impossible to fix on social media because the original file is the one that gets reblogged unless I delete it entirely) -_-

I'll admit I wasn't entirely sure whether I wanted it to be a more literal interpretation of Horatio's bridge or something entirely surreal/symbolic, but then so many of my interpretations end up somewhere in between...

I always picture Horatio out in the open air, so this inevitably feels a bit more toward the surreal/symbolic side to me.
I can see why you wanted to put something in that place/get some layering/depth of scene going on, but I can't help but see that as, like, the 'Death Star disco ball' hanging above him. XD;

It was more of a happy accident, but I realized the platform I placed him on could mechanically extend out into the open air. If he REALLY wanted to be melodramatic about how he pilots.

I don't think it detracts from the illustration, really- this is just the 'I'm bound to have opinions' when I wrote about it for several years, I think. It's a waaaaay more interesting drawing on this topic than I could pull off.
...and I didn't notice until I came back this morning and looked at it again, but I love the open air section at the front where you can see all the way down to the ground below! ^^

(I'm also pretty sure all those windows aren't doing the acoustics any justice, but yeah, let's just say it's magic and I don't have to explain anything. XD)
