Description The sound of a bullbo roaring in the distance brought Link out of his unusually calm ride back to Kakariko Village on Epona. Reorganizing his stray thoughts, he decided to play it safe and pulled on her reins, causing her stop on the bridge crossing over Kakariko Gorge. Petting her mane to let her know everything was alright after stopping her abruptly, he turned around to survey the plains for any violent creatures approaching. The only thing he saw were a few Bomskit running around, but nothing else to cause the roar.

Facing forward again, he quickly scanned the area again before he froze at what he saw at the entrance to the village.  Sitting on top one of the largest bullbos he ever saw, was the bulblin that kidnapped his friends from Ordon Village! He seemed to fit the description that Rusl had once told him of a mighty bulblin, who was the leader of all bulblins. *King Bulblin! What’s he doing here?!* Link’s eyes narrowed as he saw the leader look directly at him and give a smile that Link decided the King’s kids could only love.

*Kids…oh no! He’s going after my friends again! Why is he doing this!? WHY!?!?* Before he knew it, he was grinding his teeth together and let out a strange growl from within his throat. The growl was loud enough to be heard by Epona as she got scared by it. She quickly brought her front legs up in defense, causing him to snap out of his dark emotions and grip the reins for dear life.

Quickly he got her to come back down, but she started shaking her head in disagreement. Link started stroking her mane to calm her back down and looked up to see the backside of the leader disappear behind the cliff’s walls. *Shoot! He got away. Can’t let my emotions get the better of me while something awful is about to happen. I’ve got to get going!* Finally able to calm her down, he quickly whipped the reins and took off at full speed towards Kakariko Village.

--

When Link finally shot threw the cliffs and into the village, he immediately saw Malo standing by the sanctuary, looking into town. He followed the boy’s gaze until he saw King Bulblin, along with two other bullbos that had bulblin riders on them, positioned by Barnes’s bomb shop. *What? Where did those two come from?* He slowed Epona down just past the sanctuary when he saw Beth lying on the ground. He was about to get off and help Beth when Epona whined out. He immediately looked up to see the group of riders turn around when they heard her.

The leader chuckled out when he saw Link and held something up in his hand. It took a second before Link recognized who that was. *Colin!* It seemed Colin was out cold from some type of injury that he couldn’t see.

After showing off his prize, King Bulblin took off towards the closed gates past the trail up Death Mountain. The two riders soon followed their leader up the path. Link pondered on whether or not to stop and see if everyone was alright but quickly decided that Colin was in immediate danger at the moment. Whipping the reins at Epona, she took off after the group while Link looked around and was able to spot Talo peering around one of the buildings.

Once Link got to the opening trail to Death Mountain he saw Renado standing there while clutching Luda very tightly. He only nodded towards Link and pointed to the closed gate. Link nodded too before bracing himself for the jump Epona was going to make. He clicked his metal covered boots against her side and made a quick whip with the reins. She understood where he wanted her to go and sped up before jumping with all the strength in her legs.

As they were sailing over the spiked top of the gate, Link was surprised to see the two riders waiting for him on the other side of it. When she landed safely on the other side, the two riders came up on both sides. Pulling their reins towards Link, they sandwiched the two between the bullbos. *Not good!* He fought with the reins to keep her from freaking out, but at the same time he looked from side to side to see that each bulblin had a rather large club on hand. *Definitely not good!*

The one on his left took the first strike with a swing to his head. He was able to duck in time but this caused him to lose his grip on the reins, causing Epona to buck a bit. The bulblin on the right took Link’s distraction and made full use of it by bringing his club in a swing to his right arm.

“AHHHH!!!!”

Epona was by no means a stupid creature and knew when her friend was in trouble. She had learned to take a different route when she heard him cry out in pain like an extra sense. When she heard him now, she immediately took a sharp turn to the left by herself. The left bulblin wasn’t expecting this and didn’t have enough time to brace his bullbo against her. Being in a narrow trail with cliffs at both sides, it didn’t take long for the rider to slam against the wall and start scrapping against it as they rode further.

Link, having held on when she took the sharp left, was now back in control of the reins. The pain throughout his right arm was great, but he put it out of his mind for the time being. *Smart move girl.* He let her continue to smash the rider along the wall and looked ahead to see that part of the cliff’s wall was sticking out. *Perfect!* It didn’t take long before the obstacle came up and the rider didn’t have a chance to brace himself before the bullbo slammed head first into the wall.

*One down and one to…AHH!* A forceful impact sent Epona and Link against the wall. An opened wound on his right shoulder was scrapping against the jagged wall now. He gritted his teeth as he saw his blood being smeared against the wall and making a trail behind him. He looked to his left and saw the rider pressing its body against his, effectively trapping both his arms. *Crap, I’m stuck! Come on Link, use your head!*

A second passed before a devilish grin spread across his face as he jerked his head into the bulblin’s head. A groan came out of the rider before his head fell to the left, setting up a chain reaction and causing his body to fall off the bullbo. Two unfortunate things happened for the rider and his bullbo. For one, the cliff ended and the two crossed the short bridge that connected to Hyrule Field. Secondly, the rider had tied his hands to the reins. The rider fell off the left side and pulled the reins with him, causing the bullbo to take a sharp left on the narrow bridge. A pig roar was heard before they disappeared below the bridge and out of sight for good.

*Oops, sorry!* Link turned back around after peering over the edge of the short bridge and stopped abruptly when he saw King Bulblin on top his ‘mighty steed’ in the middle of the field. *What the…?* He felt another growl begin but calmed himself down in time before it got out and spooked Epona. It appeared that the great leader had wanted to show off his prize for all to see and tied Colin to the top of a long wooden pole. *That does it!*

Gripping the reins hard with his right hand, he pulled the sword off his back with the left one. He looked straight at the King and waited for him to pull out his weapon of choice. The King gave out a chuckle before reaching behind him and pulling out a long horn. *Huh?* Link was confused as he stared at the horn the King had.

A moment later, the King raised the horn to his mouth and blew into it, making the sound spread across the field. The next thing he did made Link screw his face into a more confused state. He lowered the horn and turned around before taking off towards the bridge in the distance. Link snapped out of his stupor and whipped the reins hard enough to cause Epona to go on her hind legs before galloping after the King.

He spotted the King going over a hill and tried to make her speed up after him. Link reached the base of the hill before he stopped Epona dead in her tracks. Coming over the top of it were five more bulblin riders and three of them caring bows. *Archers! I won’t be able to reach them fast enough before they pump me full of arrows!* He saw that two of the archers were staying in the back, no doubt giving lots of distance between him so they could ready a volley. *Crap! I don’t have anything long range myself, except for…*

With great reluctance, he sheathed his sword and took out the slingshot that was tied around his belt. He didn’t ponder the sanity of going with this option for long as the riders were getting closer by the minute. *Here goes nothing!* Reaching into one of his pouches, he brought out the biggest Deku Nut he could feel for. Aiming for the rider closest to the right and in front of the pack, he calculated the projected arc the nut would make and let it fly.

The nut flew through the air and made friends with the rider’s eye. A cry of pain escaped his mouth before jerking the reins in his hands. Going left seemed to be a bulblin rider’s choice for the day as the bullbo was forced to charge into another bullbo. Upon contact, the two beasts gave out a shriek before they tumbled to the ground, taking their riders with them.

Unfortunately for the two riders trailing behind, they were not able to steer out of the way and plowed right into them, making a big pile of jumped body parts sticking out everywhere.

Link, meanwhile, had thanked the goddesses above for that shot and turned his sights on the last rider. Thankfully it was a normal rider with a club and he made short work of him before turning Epona towards the bridge where he last saw the King heading towards.

--

Once Link was within range of the bridge’s opening, he saw a poorly built barricade made of wood in the way. *Like that’ll stop me!* He grinned as he made Epona jump the barricade with ease. As soon as she regained her footing, he gave a quick stop to check out the bridge. He wasn’t able to look all the way to the end before a grunt caused him to look up. A bulblin archer was standing on top of the bridge archway’s structure and had an arrow on fire ready to go.

He didn’t have time to get out his shield, but he didn’t need to as the archer fired behind him. Link turned around to see the wood barricade become engulfed in flames. *Crap! I fell into their trap!* He quickly brought out his slingshot and fired off a couple of shots before the archer fell off the archway and into the abyss.

After strapping it back to his belt, Link finally looked up to see the end of the bridge. It didn’t surprise him to see King Bulblin at the other end, but what did was the fact that the other opening was also aflame. *Why would you trap yourself?* The King gave an answer by whipping his reins and start charging down the bridge towards Link.

*A joust eh? Piece of cake! It seems that I have the advantage with having the only weapon available.* Confident in his own success, Link whipped his own reins, letting Epona give out a cry and go back on her hind legs before charging at full speeds. He brought out his sword, pointing it out and straight at the King. The King wasn’t intimidated by this at all and kept on a straight course. *Huh? Is he nuts?! Is there something I don’t know that he does?*

Link took a second to look over the King, but stopped when he saw the pole. *Colin!* He looked up to see the boy was still unconscious.

By know, the two riders were almost at neck to neck, but Link was still distracted by his thoughts. *Shoot! If I strike King Bulblin down, his ride will surely go over the edge and take Colin with him, I can’t let that happen!* This momentary lapse of distraction was all the time needed for the King as he passed the knighted boy in green. With a slap from his big hand, he sent the boy over the horse’s back and likely over the edge too.

Link only had a moment to grasp what was happening before he felt himself falling to his doom. Thinking quickly, he wrapped his right arm in Epona’s reins and held on. *Let’s hope Epona is smarter than the average horse!*

Startled by the sudden weight on one side, she started moving to the right, but jerked the other way when she saw the abyss below. Even though she saved his butt twice in one day, she didn’t know that Link was hanging below bridge level and was now being smacked against the stone when she moved away from the edge. *Ah! Good girl. Now just stop and…ouch…we’ll be back on track!*

Waiting until the end of the bridge to stop, Epona waited for her rider to climb up the stone and back onto her again. Carefully turning her around, Link quickly spotted the King charging again. He quickly charged himself while trying to think of a way to rescue Colin and get rid of the King at the same time.

Not much time passed before the two met at the center of the bridge. Link only had a few second to come up with a plan when he noticed something about the King. *He’s got some real short legs, not enough balance on the bottom. Maybe if I push him, he’ll slide right off and not disturb his ride’s course!*

The King once again struck out with his hand, giving Link a big opportunity. Having real short arms, the King wasn’t able to reach when Link leaned to his right. As the arm passed, Link swung his sword, blunt side, against the unprotected side of the King. The King had armor to stop sword attacks, but that wasn’t the objective here as the sword pressed against his side and kept going. The force was too quick and strong for the King to brace himself for and slipped off his ride.

A loud groan no different from his minions escaped his lips as he plunged into the ‘abyss’ below. Link immediately stopped and turned around to see if his plan was still going smoothly. *Colin!* It seemed bullbos were dumb as logs, since the beast kept charging right into the flaming barricade. It surprised him that the creature wasn’t affected by this and kept going. He looked in horror as the pole wasn’t as lucky and caught on fire.

Link started to give chase when he saw the pole snap in two, with no flames on Colin’s half, and fall to the ground. Still fearing the worst, he got there as fast as he could and untied the boy. *Colin, wake up!* He shook the boy, but all he got was a groan as a response, letting him know he was alright but still unconscious. Breathing a sigh of relief, he picked the boy up and went back to Epona.

Seating the boy in front of him, keeping one hand on him to ensure he didn’t fall off, Link whipped the reins and steered Epona back to Kakariko Village.

Great job!! I loved that fight, too. I saw it all coming- well, some of it- when I first went through it all.
