Description Link let out a sigh of relief as the missing statue finally made its way back to the closed doorway where his brother was already stationed at. He looked towards the door to see a green pulse begin at the square in the middle of the door and spread out to cover the whole thing.  Once that was done, the door split open to reveal another door a few feet away.

“Come on; another normal door, give the Chosen One a break here.” Midna appeared from his shadow before the door had opened, expecting to see the giant boss door, only to be disappointed. She looked at Link to see him give her a heartwarming smile, which only caused her cheeks to turn red. “I guess we have more to come before the finale,” She tried and failed to make her blush go away as she sat down on Link’s shoulders, piggyback style while she carefully moved his cap to one side. “Whenever you’re ready Link, let’s face this together.”

*You’re one of a kind, Midna.” Holding onto her tiny feet with care, the two casually made their way from the first door to the second. Using one hand, to keep Midna steady or to show off his strength to her, he opened the door to reveal a room filled with booby traps and missing sections of the floor.

Some of the booby traps were already on as spinning spikes raced back and forth on their designated paths. Stone axes were swinging from one side to another, although some appeared to be stuck or waiting for someone to trip them on.

“I’ll scout ahead, stay here Link.” He shook his head while smiling as she went into mother/safety mode again. They both saw the first spinning spike, so Midna scouted farther ahead while Link jumped to the next section of floor. “Beamos activating, I’ll get its attention.” He had just pulled himself up from the ledge to see her float right in front of the statue as it turned on. She waited until it recognized her before turning invisible as it fired a continuous laser at her.

Link waisted no time as he pulled out his bow and arrow, quickly making short work of it before the two went off to the next round of traps. Another spinning spike and a rolling spike added in, just for good measure. The next set looked to be two Beamos with a swinging axe behind them, but the two failed to realize a hidden axe right before the two statues until it was too late.

Midna did a quick glance to make sure everything was going smoothly when she noticed an axe come out of a sliver in the wall. She quickly looked to Link’s position and found him to be in its direct path. “Watch out Link!” He was startled into a defense position as the axe came swinging at him with deadly speed. Taking matters into her own hands, Midna used some of her magic to create a small energy ball. She quickly threw it at his back, which exploded softly but was enough to push him out of the way.

The axe swung by, barely missing Link’s feet as he was slowly getting back up again. Midna couldn’t congratulate herself when she suddenly remembered the two Beamos. “Link!” He turned his head to see the Beamos were beginning to turn on to a presence nearby. “Hang on!” Without even thinking, she flew in between the two Beamos, never realizing that she barely missed the swinging axe, and waited for the two to see her before going invisible.

Link could only watch as Midna heroically saved him as the two Beamos fired right into each other. *I guess I owe her one now.* As the two contraptions smoked in the background, he watched her float beside him with a dejected look on her face.

“Come on, we’re not out of this yet.” He was about to give her a questioning look but she flew off to scout ahead again. Deciding to wait until it was perfectly safe to ask her, he looked ahead to see two more swinging axes with a switch in between them, which probably opened the wire door ahead of them.

Once they were safely on the door’s side of the floor, the two found a statue pot that Link could use as he noticed another wire door behind the first one already open. Quickly setting the pot down and making it back on to the other side; he brought out the Dominion Rod. The orb brought life to the pot as he guided it towards the abyss while in between the two wire doors. He smiled to himself as the other wire door opened to reveal that the Boss Door was right there. The smile was cut short when he saw Midna was still down about earlier and when two young gohmas started charging them.

Quickly taking out the two creatures with his sword, he turned around and put his hand on her shoulder. Turning her around, he saw her look towards the ground instead of his face. Taking his other hand, he brought her face up to see her eyes look up at his. He gave a grateful smile, which turned into a frown as her eyes turned back down to stare at the ground again. *This calls for something more.*

Taking his hand off her shoulder, he replaced it on her back and brought her in closer. When she felt this, she looked back up to see the grateful smile again before he leaned in and gave her a kiss on the cheek. *Thank you Midna.* He knew she couldn’t read minds, but it was all he could do for her at the moment.

Midna’s cheeks went dark red as she brought a hand to the cheek he kissed. She looked back up to see him with the same smile except his cheeks were slightly red. A second passed before she closed the gap between them with a hug. “Thank you for everything Link.” They stayed like that for a while, letting the moment sink in.

Unfortunately, the moment was soon overshadowed by the feeling they both knew by this point: the sense of doom right before a boss fight.

They quickly detached from one another and stared at the giant door before them. “Alright Link, its game time,” She put on a serious face before looking at Link, who also had on a serious look. “Remember, you won’t be fighting alone again. I’m going to be pulling more than my fair share this time. I’ll help you whenever I have the chance, okay?” He nodded but was surprised to see that she didn’t return to his shadow. “I’m not going to be a coward anymore!”

*To me, you never were.* Link stepped up to the door and inserted the key. Once the lock was gone the door opened up, letting the duo step into the darkness together.

--

Link didn’t have time to turn around as the giant door closed because he was already on the offensive. He immediately saw four creatures standing in the only available lights in the room. Not waiting for the creatures to attack first, the duo made a running dash towards the nearest corner light. While crossing the distance, Link looked around to see that the room was quite empty except for the corners. The two stopped short when they saw that the creature wasn’t moving at all and seemed to be made out of stone.

“Careful Link, it might be a giant variation of a Beamos or Armos.” Midna didn’t cower behind Link as he made his way carefully towards the statue. Standing in the light, not a few feet away from it, the statue did not move an inch. “Look, it has a hollow core; it can probably be used with the Dominion Rod.”

Having a close up view of the statue, the two saw an open section in the vase like body of the giant statue. It had the same ‘vein’ markings, like the statues previously commanded by Link, running all over the body. A pair of arms was attached above the core opening with one of them raised, ready to smash anything in its range of area.

Link was about to test the statue and see if it worked when the light went out. “What the…” Midna looked up and went wide eyed as her jaw dropped. He also looked up to see the biggest tarantula in this time period or his. Both being not too fond of spiders in the first place, it didn’t help that it had a giant eye staring at them from its thorax. The two kept staring at it as the eyeball itself went wide eye when it saw the two.

The duo only snapped out of their fears when the eyelids started glowing red. “I think its charging an attack. Quick Link, hit it with an arrow!” Small orbs of red energy started collecting into a big one right in front of the eyeball’s iris as it prepared for a laser attack. Link was a quicker draw as he sent an arrow flying straight into the eyeball.

A deep scream was heard as the arrow made contact with the energy orb, causing it to explode. The fiery explosion scorched the eyeball just for a moment, but it was still painful enough for the arachnid to lose its grip on the ceiling. It tried to regain its footing upside down but wasn’t quick enough before it started falling towards the ground. Unfortunately the duo was right under the creature as it descended towards the floor.

Midna was able to get out of its path quickly but remembered that Link was not as fast, especially lugging around all that equipment. She turned around to see him barely clear the creatures shadow before it landed on the ground with a large tremor. He wasn’t ready to balance himself since he was running for his life at the moment and fell to the ground.

“Link!” She immediately floated over to him, straining her eyes to see if he was hurt or not. She was just about to touch his shoulder when a hairy leg smacked her right in the face, sending her halfway across the room.

*Midna!* He wanted to go and help her but he had bigger problems to worry about, mainly, a giant tarantula about to rip him in half. The creature was instantly towering over a fallen Link as it screamed in victory. What appeared to be the arms of the spider started reaching for him as he thought of a plan. *It won’t be that easy.* Still lying on the ground, he couldn’t bring out his sword quickly enough before the arms grabbed him. Reaching for his belt, he slipped on the clawshot and fired away.

Another perfect shot as the claw pierced one of the four smaller eyes on the head. It screamed in pain again and backed away from Link. Taking the opportunity, he got back up and brought out his sword. Clutching it tightly with both hands, he swung hard and cleaved both arms completely off. Strangely, there was no blood or liquids coming out of the wounds.

*That’s not poss…” It was the creatures turn to take advantage of an opportunity as Link was lost in thought and rammed him onto the ground again, sending his sword flying a few feet away. He had the wind taken out of him for a second before he realized what was in front of him. A pair of pincers, one on each side of its disgusting face, was ready to puncture large holes into his sides.

Link couldn’t use the clawshot since the face was above his waistline, too short of a distance for the boomerang, bow and arrows were too slow, spinner is useless, ball and chain too heavy, and the sword is not within reach. *That just leaves the shie…the shield!* Just as the pincers went in for the strike, he twisted his body sideways.

The pincer on his right punctured the shield but could not go any further and harm Link’s back. The pincer on his left was about to puncture his chest when he grabbed a hold of it and put all of his strength into keeping it away from his body. It was a losing battle as the tarantula had a lot more strength. *Okay, now what?* The pincer on his right was trying to pull itself out of his shield and only managed to unclip it from his back. *There we go!*

Link waited until the proper moment before releasing his hold on the pincer and twisting his body so he was lying on his back. The left pincer, no longer having a force pushing against it, went flying into the shield the right pincer was stuck in. Just like before, the left pincer punctured the shield right above the right one. *Time to go!* Being quiet as possible, he used his elbows to slowly crawl out from underneath the creature.

He didn’t get very far before the arachnid used all its strength to tear the shield in two. *Uh-oh.* The three remaining small eyes spotted him making his escape and brought a leg down upon his shoulder.

Link let out a muffled scream as he tried to get over the serious pain of the creature’s leg piercing his right shoulder. He slowly breathed in and out as the leg started going in deeper. Using all the strength in his left arm, and what was left in his right, he desperately tried to dislodge the spider’s leg from his shoulder. It only went in further as the tarantula returned to its former state above him and readied its pincers once again.

“Leave him alone!” The spider paused in its actions, pincers on either side of Link’s face, and opened its giant eye to see Midna holding an energy ball. That was the moment she needed and hurled it right at the eyeball. She didn’t use this spell often so it was only strong enough to blind and stun the creature. She took the moment to grab Link’s sword and used every ounce of strength she had to swing it across the back leg of the giant tarantula. It let out a surprised scream as it toppled backward, taking out the leg from Link’s shoulder.

“Are you alright Link?” Midna floated over to him, dragging his sword since she didn’t have the energy to hold it in the air without help from magic, and helped him to his feet. It was then that she noticed a large hole in his right shoulder. “Link your shoulder!” She went over to his right and tried to think of a spell that would help him.

Link took his eyes off Midna to see the giant spider try and failing to operate with one less leg. He noticed it was in the light, right next to the statue. He suddenly remembered what she said earlier about it and looked from the statue’s raised arm to the spider. *That might work.* Slowly brushing her hand from his shoulder and taking his sword back, he ran over to the statue.

“Link wait, you’re hurt. I don’t know how you aren’t unconscious right now and why you’re not bleeding profusely. You need to rest and get medical attention, please!”  His only response was looking back at her and winking before running off again. *He’s got too much courage, but I guess that’s what makes him who he is…and I wouldn’t have it any other way.* She came out of her thoughts to see him with the Dominion Rod, waving for her to come over.

“What do you want me to do?” Link pointed to the statue and then to the Dominion Rod before swinging the rod down. Then he pointed to her and motioned with his hands that he wanted her to make another energy orb. Lastly, he held out three fingers with his best hand before nodding his head. “Okay Link, I think I got the most of it.” She floated over the creature until she was above its giant eye as Link brought life to the statue and stood a few feet away.

The giant tarantula finally figured out how to stand again with only seven legs when Link brought down the Dominion Rod with his good arm. The giant statue mimicked his movements and brought down its raised arm on top of the creature, just below the thorax. A loud scream was heard, but Link could swear he heard the sound of stone cracking too. He looked down to see the floor wasn’t cracked below the spider.

Midna watched the spider get smashed and started laughing until she saw it trying to move away from the area quickly. “Oh, no you don’t!” She hastily made an energy ball and hurled it at the eyeball. It became stunned once again, giving enough time for Link to regain control of the statue.

Link had to chuckle a bit at Midna’s laughing as he swung the rod back down again to see the tarantula scream in pain once more. He stopped chuckling when the sound of stone cracking was heard more clearly. He noticed that the markings on the spider’s legs and body seemed to have more lines than usual.

Midna was more cautious this time as she waited for the moment before firing another energy ball when the eye opened again. Link once again reacquired control and brought the hand down for the last time. He had guessed right on how much the tarantula could take before landing the final blow as he saw the spider’s legs curl up beneath it.  They both smiled when the creature’s body started turning black.

“We did it Link!” He turned to see Midna float his way and thought of a way to show off a bit. Putting the Dominion Rod away, he brought out his sword and did an extremely fancy technique before sheathing again. “Show off,” She landed on his good shoulder and gave him a kiss on the cheek. “I love it though and thanks for helping me get another piece of the mirror shard.” He still had his hand on the sword’s handle and smiled while blushing. The sound of something exploding turned his attention from Midna’s face to see something that left him with a look that said: ‘no way’.

Midna saw his expression and turned to see a small spider with the eyeball as its rear design. They both turned to look at each other, coming to the same realization. “*It was only an armored suit!*” Turning back around, they saw it trying to escape. A devilish smile appeared on both their faces and the same plan appeared in their minds.

Midna quickly floated beside the escaping spider and concentrated on her magic. A containment orb appeared before she threw it at the spider, sending red electricity coursing over the little creature. She lifted it in the air and brought it over to the stone statue they had used previously.

Link brought out the Dominion Rod and waited for Midna to come back with her catch of the day. He brought the statue back to life and waited for her to set the spider right in the middle of the light before bringing down his arm.

“This is what you get for hurting Link!” He blushed a little bit while chuckling at Midna’s remark as the small spider was instantly flattened by the fist. The sense of doom was no longer among them as the tiny creature exploded.

Soon after, a small wind storm surrounded the two as numerous mirror shards floated into one until the third mirror shard was formed. It started floating down so Link brought up his hands before a sharp pain on his right stopped him.

“It’s okay Link, I got it.” She quickly snatched it with her hair hand and turned back to Link to see him rubbing his injured shoulder with a gap in it. “I’m sorry I wasn’t there to save you before that happened.” Smiling to himself, he used his working arm to grab Midna and give her a sideways hug. She hugged his side back and encircled his arm with hers as she made a portal in front of them with her other arm. “Don’t worry Link; you’ll be good as new in no time, I’ll make sure of it.”

*What would I do without you Midna?* With nothing else important to do, the two moved into the portal together and disappeared.

I loved the last part with the little spider. It got what it deserved! btw why can't Link talk in your stories? I know he can't talk in the games, but it seems like he WANTS to talk a lot in this story.

Well, everyone else has Link talk in their stories but I like to keep to the character's roots and backgrounds as much as possible.

Also, a person who doesnt speak is less likely to get cocky and arrogant, which can be bad in boss fights.

Sorry about the long reply. Glad you like the story.

I think I remember you saying that Link never learned Hylian in one of your other stories. Is that true?

And Link is supposed to be cocky! His catchphrase is "well excuuuse me princess" after all... lol kidding!

In almost every game, he lives alone without parents and probably never learned to talk but he's officialy classified as a mute. I wrote that just in case I want Link to speak or something later on.

Oh no, not that!
