Description Here is the third member of the Carbonergix team, Toki-Yu. A young East Asian fashioned-French martial artist who was left disfigured as a result of a dangerous experimental anti-cancer drug, but then successfully cured from cancer by another, more efficient and less terrible cure, in Japan. He found relief and inner peace during and after his cure in Japan in martial arts. His own story (see below) motivated to join Kinex and Carbonica as part of the Carbonergix team.

I still need a good cam. And try to improve my calque skills still. All critics are welcome

Character bio

From the luckiest guy on earth, with the perfect love...

Alexandre Delaunay was born in Dijon, the only child of Sabine and Édouard Delaunay. From his childhood, he was one of the luckiest people you could ever meet. Best friends, best sales offers, the best jobs, the best sport teammates, good times in aikido and judo clubs, always a nice second-hand car for the price of a moped... And most of all, since his last year in secondary school, he started dating Gwendoline Lemaire, the most beautiful girl in his school, and both of them attended the same high school the next year ! Gwen is the girl who makes all heads turn in all directions. History teacher even believed "if legendary nymphs of Greek mythology should exist, the lil' Gwendoline could be mistaken for one". Potterheads of the high school even wondered if she was a Veela, like Fleur Delacour in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Despite being a part-time model, she is sometimes pressed by her friends and even her family to compete in Miss France ! For sure, she would at least figure out in top 5 ! But she is everything but a b***h. Alexandre's dream was to take her to Japan for a year, after completing his tech bachelor. She was amazed to this prospect.

... to a cancer patient and guinea pig to an evil corporation.

During another lovely moment with Gwendoline, she noticed a lump on Alexandre's collarbones. Realizing this, worried, he went to doctors for some health exams. The results were shocking : Stage 4 Hodgkin's lymphoma ! Alex faced the gruelling treatments, his world was falling down... Despite the support of his family friends and teachers, He went totally bald, exhausted ,weakened... Worse, his beloved Gwen questioned him about the future of their relationship ! EVEN WORSE : a PET scan shows cancer turned from Hodgkin's lymphoma into aggressive T-cell Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
Some days later, strange doctors visited him in hospital. The executive presented himself as Professor Henri Dupire, a highly qualified doctor from University of Paris La Sorbonne, turned chief developement officer in Exahealth France, health division of the French division of Exabellum Inc,  a private military contractor, healthcare and software developer well-known for their controversial activities in Afghanistan. He remembered watching TV news in the hospital, about the capture and subsequent escape of a French paratrooper and a female US Marine soldier, and the stonewalling of their accusations against Exabellum.
Nevertheless, Pr. Dupire proposed Alex an experimental treatment which he said was successful on monkeys, birds, pigs and rats, for no more than three months. As Alex clinged to life, he reluctantly considered giving a try. As treatment began, he started feeling even worse. Alex vomited blood, became increasingly bloated, rashed, felt like burning. In the 13th day, he started to look like he suffered a severe GVH reaction or Darkseekers from the 2007 movie I am Legend (2007). When he showed Gwendoline what he looked like, she fled screaming in horror and broke up with him thereafter. A medic who came to see him in his hospital room, horrified by what he saw, helped his relief his pain with a shot of morphine. After cleaning his bed because of the severe burning-like reaction, he promised to refer Alex's oncologist about the horrors the experimental treatment was doing to him. Isidore, the medic, was a benevolent and emphaetic medic from Guadeloupe island. He talked about all relaxing things he could. With his fellow colleague friend Nicolas, Isidore is known among his peers for exploring the world of experimental cured for cancer and auto-immune diseases, meeting doctors from all around the world when they traveled, when they could on their free time. Knowing Alexandre would love to visit Japan and to learn Japanese, talked with Alexandre about Nicolas and his' encounter with Japanese Professor Daisuke Matsuyama, head of the Akatsuki Children and Poor's clinic in Fukuoka, during a recent trip to Japan. He was on human test phase, and he treated patients successfully, with much less severe side-effects and a very good long-term survival. Shortly thereafter, Isidore and Nicolas asked Exahealth staff for a similar review with the same, unbiased method he did with Matsuyama. They discovered the ugly truth about Exahealth's treatment : only 50% of the unsuccessfully-treated subjects were present. So the true cure-rate was merely 80%. Worse, Exahealth clearly ignored the horrific side-effects Alexandre was not the first one to suffer. Most of those led to the death of tested animals. The real survival rate of all animal categories was then ranging from 37% to 56% for 5 years ! Together, they convinced Pr. Philippe Leroux, the leading oncologist, to stop the treatment. But Exahealth, using of corruption among health authorities, threatened to sack the doctor and the two medics for "misinformation and endangering the boy's life". Nevertheless, Dr. Leroux took courage, and with his fellow medics showed the ugly truth to Alexandre with scan results. He was considered clinically terminally ill. But reassured the sobbing boy there is always a chance, even a very-narrow one. The next day, He saw the three men moving in casual clothes outside, before coming back the afternoon. Alexandre witnessed with horror something like a green light striking the Dr. Leroux, Isidore and Nicolas' car, which violently crashed. Shocked, he unplugged himself, quickly dressed up and moved to help them. Unseen by hospital staff as it was on the "back door". So a very few hospital workers could see him. Dying in the wreckage, Professor Leroux presented Alexandre a plane ticket to Fukuoka, Japan, and "some spare money he had no use for it" converted into 15 million JPY. At least the amount of money to give funds to Matsuyama's treatment, "and still, if his kind nature isn't enough..." with his last dying breath. Isidore emerged from the wreckage, and took Alexandre to the airport in Paris. He promised his last will shall be exauced, to see Japan. And his last chance is coming, with. There, the duo was ambushed by Exabellum's goons, in the back alleys. Isidore yelled one last time to Alexandre to go, without turning back and escape to Japan ! Alex, still chased by Exabellum guards, managed to elude them and to board the plane for Fukuoka.

Godsent doctors and teachers

There, after contemplating the Japanese landscape, under his hoodie which barely hid his horrible disfigurement, he reached a small children's and poor's clinic. He barely translated the kanjis he was reading, "Akatsuki", and "Matsuyama"
He decided to enter the building, and with the few Japanese words he knew, badly employed, alongside his disfigured appearance, was about to be kicked out the hospital. A strong-looking doctor in his 60s, balding, with a small beard, asked him in English what he was doing here. Alexandre told him he was a test subject for unsuccessful and potentially dangerous experimental treatment in France, and that two medics in the hospital he was treated for his blood cancer, who managed to convince Pr. Leroux to give his a last chance in his clinic. He presented him the 15 million yen envelope and a photo of Isidore and Nicolas. "Present this to professor Matsuyama".
The Japanese doctor seemed to calm, and then less frightening. Surprisingly, he told the guards to let him down. Fluent in French, with a strong Japanese accent, the doctor told Alexandre he remembered meeting those two kind-hearted French medics, of which the interview they gave him would be an opportunity to raise awareness about new treatments for the benefit of patients and health. He pointed out Alex's conversational Japanese' book, ans asked the boy if he could read his nameplate. He barely translated as "Ma...tsu... ya...ma". "Good", replied the doctor, revealing himself as Professor Daisuke Matsuyama. Brought to tears, Alexandre desperately thanked him, and told of his French colleagues' terrible fate. The Japanese oncologist personally takes Alexandre ot his new room. He kept crying, but of positive emotion this time. Not just for himself, but also for the patients around, a significant part of whom are children or poor people. The environment of the clinic looks humane, benevolent and warmhearted.
The following days, Japanese medical team, among them French/Japanese interprets, conduced a PET-scan, the same horrific results than the previous, but Matsuyama showed himself optimistic. He nevertheless rudely scolded Alexandre for eating rubbish food, "the worst possible obstacle for the cure against cancer !"
The following days, assisted by dieteticians, sophrologist and finding solace in learning Japanese, he started feeling better three months later. The experimental chemotherapy given to Matsuyama's clinic was still causing hair loss and nausea to patients, but was less exhausting, especially with the accepting the alkaline diet Matsuyama imposed on the patients and all the medical staff. Some patients even only felt they were just people with alopecia who just had to do blood donations some days, as they could live their normal life again between two treatment injections. Alexandre used internet resources for cooking yummy alkaline recipes. When he learned this, Matsuyama, still with his severe tone, but a smile this time, congratulated him, presented his tactic to enjoy alkaline diet as "Very brilliant ! Every problem implies a solution ! Good progress, buddy ! A clever mind is a good key to beat cancer." Matsuyama's staff introduced the young Frenchman to three martial arts masters. The first, Goro Watanabe, was a master in kempo, aikido, judo and karate. The second, Zhang Jixing, Chinese, was a master in kung-fu. The third, Kim Jae-Hyok, Korean, was a taekwondo teacher. All were specialized in cancer therapy-applicated version of their arts. From there, Alexandre resumed his childhood learning of judo and aikido, with some kung-fu, and taekwondo. This is what put him to the road of recovery. five months after beginning practice of martial arts, alongside many chemo injections, scans, but also art and cooking therapy sessions, he completed his treatment. During the time between his last treatment and what everyone hoped to be the final result, the one he waited for more than one year, Alexandre, having greatly progressed in Japanese language and martial arts, is told about what he reminds them of the Japanese crested ibis, known in Japanese as Toki.
Alexandre's disfiguration at the hands of Exahealth's "scamotherapy" left him is pale on most of his skin, with pink, red, and almost blackened parts of his skin, especially aroung his face. It reminds the people around him of the bird, mostly white-feathered, but with a reddish face, and some pink feathers on his wings, alongside a black beak. the toki can eat freshwater crabs, just as you presumably did eat the "crab" in your body. Like the toki, he his endangered, was on the brink of the end... but is a symbol of rebirth.

Now go... "Toki-Yu !"

Professor Matsuyama presented Alexandre all the results of the final scans, blood tests, X-Rays, etc... Everything made twice to be sure of the check up, hence why it took a week longer than in French hospital he was before. All the tests gave Alexandre what he awaited the most : he beat cancer !
Before leaving, Pr. Matsuyama gave Alex 12M yen back, so he only paid 3M yen for the treatment. "You paid quite a bit more than most of patients there, because you are a foreigner with much more money than most of patients there," but I am not a mercenary. I wish it could be free for anyone." he said. "That's why my clinic is struggling."
Then, Sensei Watanabe offered Alexandre to live in his flat for the next months, before going back to France, to keep training in martial arts. So did Alex move some days later, after warmheartly thanking Professor Daisuke Matsuyama and all the medical staff and charity workers there. Many patients bid him farewell too. Alexandre promised to be back soon. So did he in the next weeks, by showing support to the ill kids in every kind he could. It is shown Professor Matsuyama's cure is restoring permanent damage caused by toxins, like those chemotherapy could do. Something the Japanese doctor noticed, and started a study, of which Alexandre was the first volunteer subject. Other survivors accepted to testify and share their medical file and results variations. Daisuke Matsuyama and his son Yoshio were amazed by the results, and individuals from other hospitals in Japan adviced to publish his results. Meanwhile, Alexandre showed increasingly high skills in judo and aikido, and started learning advanced karate and kempo, alongside kung-fu and taekwondo. Something his newly-revigorated body gladly withstood. Obviously, as his body is now stronger, his level in martial arts soared.

4 months later, a terrible event happened. Alexandre didn't relapse. but something terrible still. While coming back from the dojang where he was practising taekwondo with Kim Jae-Hyok, he noticed police and people were gathered in front of the Akatsuki clinic. Panicked, Alex entered the clinic. Most of remedies, cures, files and computers have been destroyed. But inside, something terrible happened, as he briefly saw Professor Matsuyama's medical staff, support workers and patients crying. Then, the young Frenchman saw ambulance workers carrying a critically-wounded Professor Matsuyama, who said, in a very rude French, he was deeply sorry, and to become someone benevolent, spreading welfare and kindness to others, as he passed away. He asked police about what happened, they say a black dressed-mob entered the clinic, sabotaged most of the material and stabbed him. He seemed to recognize the same practices as Exabellum's. Yumi and Yoshio Matsuyama, respectively Daisuke's widow and son, as well as Hana (Yoshio's girlfriend), all working at the clinic, sadly announce they will close their clinic, for the distress of the workers and the patients. Actually, they also feared to be the next ones on the attackers' list.

After mourning Daisuke Matsuyama, Alexandre found solace in martial arts. He still improved, outstanding his masters. His level of mastery soared, eventually reaching the black belt everywhere. But Watanabe, Zhang and Kim alike, warned his of the nascent anger filling his person, desperate for revenge against Exabellum for his sufferings as well as Matsuyama and his patients.
Watanabe and other support team's warnings did not stopped Alexandre's desire of revenge, but helped him calm down and control it. Alexandre took notice of their advices and began to meditate more, mostly somewhere in nearby cherry blossoms. That did not keep him from his desire of justice, but calmed his anger. With his remaining money, Alexandre spent the 9 months travelling in the rest of Japan, China and Korea to perfect his mastery of martial arts, eventually reaching the black belt in every single exam when he came back to Fukuoka. Then, Sensei Fukuoda and the three masters invited Alexandre and the former sewing tutor of Akatsuki clinic, Mrs. Aoi Fujiwara, to a private ceremony in which they offered him his black belt, alongside a special outfit crafted for him, alongside the patrons to make similar clothing "if felt the need to", as Mrs Fujiwara said.
The party, in seiza sitting position on their knees, told Alexandre he was an exceptional person. Sensei Watanabe co-presided the ceremony with Sensei Fukuoda. He said
"As Matsuyama-san said, like the Toki, you were on bring of death, but you were reborn. No one would expect a youngster in your case, who went to hell and escaped, to make the way to all those black belts. As true as the cherry blossoms are pink, you shall spread good and justice around your surroundings. I am convinced."
Then, Mrs. Fujiwara gently presented to both sensei the outfit. before kneeling even more, and moving back to her position. It appears as a sweatshirt drawing inspiration from Japanese kimono,  with a special hoodie crafted to look and act like a ronin's hat (roningasa). It was mostly white, with reddish, orange and pinkish shades, with grey smears on the ends, remniscient of the Japanese crested-ibis on the outer part of the arms, the roningasa hoodie and the bottom. On the center were three ideograms, the first and second from the left, Japanese, and the last one, to the right. The sewing lady spoke, and with a note of humour : "Don't worry, kid, you have the patrons to craft new ones. And you may find the other parts of clothing easily." For what those were traditional East Asian martial arts pants and light fully-enclused shoes inspired by the socks worn by Japanese with getas.
Zhang Jixing spoke then : "You didn't found solace in the sole Japan. This is why Kim and I featured, for his part, a traditional Korean martial arts pants. In my case, I introduced the Mandarin "Yu" ideogram next to Japanese "toki" kanji. This one meaning of ideogram yu is the one that means "To defend", "To resist". Think of is as resisting injustice."
Watanabe and Fukuoda presented the outfit, the black belt, and a kendo shinai sword. Plus two sets of sunglasses to hide his bloodish eyes. One being a nose pinch sunglass pair, the other one being a vintage set, with windshields.
As he received the presents, Alexandre said : "So it reads "To... Ki... Yu..." ? What a weird combination, especially as the last syllab is Chinese, not Japanese".
Watanabe wisely speaks : Think of it as a game of words in two languages. The meaning is clear. Now go, Resiliant toki bird.
"Arise and fly... TOKI-YU."

(The Lonely Shepherd plays :') )

Dawn of a Hero

Back in Dijon, Toki-Yu is housed in his best friend, Rémi's, home, while everyone believed him dead except for him. He felt so lonely since cancer struck him. He managed to have a copy of his scans, which he shown to his friend, as well as his scars, to prove he was the geuine Alexandre Delaunay. His first achievement came when crack syndicate was ruining security inside the suburbs. He surprised the drug dealers and corrected them, without killing them. Shortly there after, the crime decreased in this suburb. Still, he kept tracking Exahealth's activities. He paid tribute to Pr. Leroux, and fellow medics Isidore and Nicolas, while visiting their graves, by deposing cherry blossoms he brought from Japan on their graves. He traveled outside Dijon, eventually moving to Paris 13th Arrondissement, where he helped take out a Yakuza and Triad gang pizzo on some of the local businesses.
Meanwhile, in late 2015, two other metahumans showed themselves in France as well. They were mostly sighted in Alpine region. Carbonica and Kinex started their superhero career. So he decided to find them in order to receive help. Moreover, it shows they became active, Exabellum increased their activities, even weirder coincidence as there are more metahumans before them and stronger ones, they should have more worried about !

In the Carbonergix Squad

While Kinex and Carbonica were investigating a Chinese criminal syndicate in Lyon, He managed to reach the brawl on their side, and presented himself, told all of his story. As Kinex removed his "lightning-rod helmet", as Toki-Yu says, and Carbonica, unmasked, pulling off her face mask remniscient of Chameleon's in Marvel Universe, mixed with Lady Deadpool's, their faces seemed familiar ...
"Did I see you somewhere, or in the news ?
Kix and Carbs, while in a safehouse, revealed their true identities to Toki-Yu. Carbonica is actually the former USMC scout Amanda Lockhart, and Kinex, the French paratrooper Vincent Pelletier.
"How did you escape Exabellum ? We talked about both of you to the news back then..."
The Franco-American superhero team explained to Toki-Yu they suffered crystal radiation while escaping Exabellum's secret hideout in the desert, hence their powers. Another American superheroine, American Mom proposed Amanda to work in France, as she knew she liked this placed, with her command in French language as good as Jodie Foster's. And as... Carbonica and Kinex fell in love during their escape from Exabellum bunker !
Toki-Yu then joined the "Carbonergix team", proving himself to be an outstanding sidekick, despite not having superpowers. Mostly on Kinex's side during missions.
Amanda Lockhart, in civilian life as a SFX specialist, created, a hyper-realistic mask, a perfect replica of Alexandre Delaunay's face before being disfigured by Exahealth, as well as perfect replica gloves. She couldn't remain helpless for him as her older sister suffered the same kind of cancer in her teens.
Now returning to his old life, Alexandre took benefit of his free time to show back in Dijon he is still alive, and that he beat the disease. Gwendoline, welcomed him back, but ended up with someone else. A polite guy, but made it clear he wanted to keep Gwen for him and only himself.
It became more troublesome when the news of Alexander's return came in Dijon. Exahealth sent goons to kidnap Gwen. Calling Kinex and Carbonica for help, Toki-Yu, showing himself in this alter-ego, jumps to their chases. But something he hoped wouldn't show itself came in last minute. VULCAIN.
Vulcain, having transformed into his magma/steel form, threatened to kill Gwen. But Carbonica and Kinex arrive, and engage Vulcain again.
Some days later, before moving to Annecy with Carbonica and Kinex, to start a slow-life and healthy job (healthy food vendor), Gwen walks with Alexandre in a park. Gwen says she dumped her then boyfriend, before kissing Alexandre. She then noticed Alexandre's lips where not that sensitive as before, and told him Carbonica revealed herself the truth about this "lack of sensitivity". Shuddering, he saw Gwen's hands unbuttoning his shirt, reaching for his neck, gently unmasking him. She sobbed and said she was so sorry, and that it was then time to see his real self, no matter how he has become on the outside. And Alexandre "Toki-Yu" Delaunay remmebered this day as the best sunset of his life.
Some time later, after suffering the hardest challenge of their superhero life, Kinex and Carbonica, recovering from this terrible time, engaged in late 2017, before getting married in May 2018. Gwen and Toki-Yu were among the guests at the wedding. Meanwhile, thousands of miles from there, Yoshio Matsuyama also married Hana and took his father's mantle. For the courage he showed during the Carbonergix team's then darkest but greatest hours, Amanda and Vincent begged Alexandre to be the godfather of their first child. So was done in 2020 with the birth of their son, Thomas. Of course Toki-Yu will be able to withstand his duty as a god-daddy, even if the boy should develop powers like his parents ! Not to add, little Tom's got younger identical twin sisters, Julie and Pauline, one year and four months later !

Powers/Abilities

- Martial arts
Alexandre practiced judo and some aikido as a child, introduced him to martial arts masters, but the clinic he was treated in Japan allowed him to learn aikido, judo, karate, kempo, kendo, kung-fu and taekwondo. He reached the black belt in every level. His favorite tactics are scorpion kick and jumped kick. This made Toki-Yu an outstanding fighter, even when outnumbered. But he cannot directly engage supervillains like Vulcain or Neopoludnitsa.

- Ninjutsu tactics
Toki-Yu learned ninjutsu tactics from his masters. Perfect for infiltration through the back door !

- Climbing
Professor Matsuyama's treatment and diet helped Toki-Yu regain muscle flexibility. This and the good impact of the treatment to the morale encouraged Toki-Yu to learn climbing. He can climb many obstacles, thus easily compensating his lack of superpowers

-Skateboarding
His skateboard skills are very helpful in mission
