The military spec-ops space suits are meant to be skin-tight, but not that skin-tight, because they're meant for soldiers undergoing a very rigorous physical training. That wasn't necessarily true for space pirates like Portia, so things fit a bit more tight than they were supposed to. You're surprised that this was exactly the reason why Portia had stolen one?

What was standard on the other hand was the locking mechanism: When the suit detected that is was worn by someone lacking specific genetic modifications, that is not by a soldier, it locked down and became impossible to remove without help from a specialist. The military had figured that this was the best way to get back the suit and at the same time get the perpetrator.
What they did not take into account were people like Portia who'd actually loved that fact that she wasn't going to take it off ever again. It was actually the locking feature that put her on her quest to get one.

The space pirats secret service found out, that the Ajax-crew scanned the dead body of Conajohara and took precautions. For example they activated the self destruct system of the Ajax. So the space pirat chiefs were not amused at all about the acting of their controller Portia. Some of them demanded I.T. (instant termination) for Portia. But the superiors made an other decision. When Portia was informed she begged for her I.T.. But her supervisor told her, it is not a sentence, it is an order and she has to obey.
