Description I found this picture of Adam Sandler in a recording studio and thought it would be fun to draw.  Mostly because of that expression. Red eye from the photo included.

Colored pencil on rag.

Overall I feel like the shading on the skin is really well done but the shading on the shirt could use some work. Also, your eyes and had lack some depth. Adding a few more colours or shades in there could really help bring the piece to life.

I think this is a really nice piece, you captured his expression really well!  Now what I have to say is that when working from a photo, it's best to not work so that you're copying from it.  You're the artist and you have the creative power!  So you can crop it however you want, use the colors you want, etc.  Also, the camera doesn't have the same capabilities that the human eye and mind does.  It cannot capture all the colors and values that our eyes can see.  Because of that, colors look washed out in photos compared to real life and shadows look flat.  If you do want to work from a photo, you should turn the photo black and white and work with your colors corresponding to the values of the picture.  You'll end up with a picture that's a lot more vibrant and without things like flat shadows and red eye.

xD I thought that hair on his forehead was a real one on my screen, i tried to brush it off. xD  I feel your pain.  Dog hair sucks.  lol  It somehow gets everywhere!

IKR?  But I guess I'd rather deal with it than shave my dog...

when I first noticed it, I'd already submitted the drawing.  I thought it was on my screen too!

Hahha, my dog would be hilarious if she was shaved.

Yeah, I tend to end up with hair in my watercolors. xD It's a little inconvenient at times.

I love the expression you captured here... it's something else! the colors you used really make this piece pop out... beautiful! Is that a real hair on his forehead?

Um...

Yeah so...

back when I was scanning a bunch of my traditional artworks in... I had pulled them out of their protective shelter (my old portfolio from Art Institute) and I stacked them on the floor...

you know scanning can be a rather laborious business and I was there by the scanner for at least a couple hours.  I have a dog. He is very loyal-my best bud ( like any dog, right) and he kept me company while I worked on the scanning.  Like any dog he sheds (a whole lot) and he was laying on my stack of art boards and papers...

I did did my best to keep the scanner clean and when a hair or two showed up, I re-scanned...

I only caught this one AFTER I'd submitted it... You're the first to notice it I think so I kinda just let it slide
Yeah I'm a total lazy bum for not going back to rescan! I promise I will at some point I just haven't yet...
sorry to talk your ear off... This is rather embarrassing...

ahh, it's okay! I know the feeling myself, just with coffee stains mostly lol. I guess no one pointed it out before because it's no real biggie anyway haha  It can easily be photoshopped away as it's fairly small... and luckily you can always change the file (I'm glad one can do that because.. whoa God knows how many times I resubmitted something because I made a minor change that annoyed me lol)

LOL

So here is my dilemma

If a traditional work of art has been cleaned up digitally, is it truly traditional art anymore?

there's some Zen for your Saturday

Oh shoot. Hmm... well technically.. arhg. I don't know D': somehow I never upload anything traditional because I always end up playing with the levels and contrast.. but... oh dear such dilemma D: this is too deep for me, why do you do this D':
