Description I've been upset lately...
That's why I've been inspired to do this.

Lately, I've been noticing all the disrespect to western riders. As someone who also rides western, I've been feeling the blows of the demeaning comments and things people make up. And it's upset me...

Don't get me wrong, I ride English, too, I have for years, (longer than I've ridden western.) and I quite enjoy it. I have nothing bad to say about it because I like riding English as much as I like riding western.

My coach rides English, too. She's been coming out to help with my Standy mare, and we're riding in an English saddle. Everything that's wrong with my riding she accuses it as the fault of riding western. She says that the western saddle is the reason Nelly rushes into her stall. Blah, blah, blah! It's not. I know for a bloody fact that rushing hasn't got a damn thing to do with my western saddle!

Not sure if anyone else has noticed the viscous comments on youtube directed at the western riders, either, but they're there, and I'm sick of it!

What some people fail to notice is that for every evil person who rides western, there's an evil person who rides English, so it's not just the western riders who are wrong, it's all of us! Every discipline has its pros and cons. So why does western seem to only have cons?

I have a cousin who comes out and they always borrows our tack and rides our horses, but we ride western and they rides English, so they complain and complain about poorly trained horses and cruel riding techniques and how much better English is, and she has started putting an English saddle on one of our western trained horses, I know that's not bad for him really, but it is irritating and all high and holy! What makes English riding so great anyway, I tried it and didn't like it, western riding I know is no better then English riding, but English riding isn't better then western riding either!

I know how you feel. Some people...

I would find a new trainer, her comments sound very ignorant and unprofessional.

Riding well has so much more to do with the kind of rider you are than which type of saddle you chose to use.

yes, i agree!
Ok, maybe, we westernriders aren't much better than english...
But we havn't a Totilas. .. i think.. maybe just in the underground..
I wish there would be stables, which combinate western with english.
This would be the best.
But there isn't any in my near so I couldn't ride western any longer cause there is no other stable then the old...
And i don't want to ride english, cause I know, how the reactions will be, when I say," Yeah guys, im a western rider."
-.-'

yeah, I wish there was a barn that combined the two as well. I ride both english and western, but have to go to two different barns to ride both styles :/

*steals awesome saddle.*

p.s i agree. XD i ride western. I think you have better balance in western saddles. But i also think some are more dangerous because of the horn. When i was young i got a huge bruise on my stomach from a metal horn on a saddle when the horse got stung by a bee and i fell off.

I personally prefer riding western, though over here in england western is still seen as somthing of a novelty so i have to do a fare bit of travelling to get lessons.

ah yeah i agree...i feel people think western is a joke, something you only do if you have no clue on how to ride..but in fact people riding western often has way better connection with the horse and how the horse moves. lt dosent have anything to do with western it has to do with how you treat your horse and if you do it right any riding is as good as the other.
we do natural horsemanship and boy is that something people loove to smash hard down on. Sorry but l want my horse to be as saft and as happy as he can be if l can make him that. And thats where western comes in, most people doing horsemanship do western!

btw love your saddle!

Agreed! I've noticed people like to bash the natural horsemanship, too. Parelli along with it.

Haha, thanks! I think you're about the first person to tell me that ^^

its seems to be people that dont want to let go of how they ride and thinks that holding back is the best way to ride a horse.
if l where to open a riding school i would demand the kids to have atleast one horsemanship training every month. maybe a week or so.
one of the horses im working with is a very strong and own minded horse, l would never ride him or even be with him if it where not for horsemanship and parelli. l can now alow him to run direct towards me and i know he will stop infront of me. l trust that horse so much.
he is only 5 years old and behaves better than most english ridden horses of the same age.

I hear that!

I would like to get into the natural horsemanship more than I do. Nobody really does it around where I am. But I learn as much as I can from youtube!

Look for CLinton Anderson downunder horsemanship. You'll learn how to gain respect from your horse and how to get confidence too Enjoy

Right on I agree! I mainly ride English and I've ridden Western a couple of times on my TB. But the amount of English and Western riders who think they know it all and hit there horses ect are the ones who know nothing!

I argee, it must stop. I want to ride english as well as western, and I don't know why they think they are better because english is supposed to bring back natural grace in a horse.
