Description
The sun was but a tiny splotch of white fluff being swallowed by an endless smoky sky. No creatures lingered on the ground, only the oppressing silence of houses and cars, and the alien absence of cast shadows. Had the world been imprisoned in a glass terrarium? Sound was muffled, time had slowed to a sluggish stream, poking along so slowly that there was nothing but the numbing routine of back and forth, and everything seemed to collapse in upon the center. So it's true! We are caught in an endless loop. Perhaps this might be worrisome – being stuck in time… Should I warn someone? Alert the authorities? No.

Is it wrong, to want to stay in a loop – to become infinite? Is that not what all humans dream of? If they cannot live forever, the next best is to have their name renowned and known by all. That's certainly not living, but it's not fading away, either. Their name is a flame that will never go out, it cannot be extinguished.

Is this no different? Wanting to preserve a moment in time… to not lose or forsake my memories? The future be dashed – it is no longer of import to I, the infinite. Such a thrill! It is without the monotony of eternity and the obligation of forever; just infinite. I like it. Small and simple, it is something you can compact into a locket or box.

Perhaps I was misguided – this looping is rather lonely, when one is by themselves. I almost wish for the monotony; even that would be better than nothing.

Perhaps infinity is a trick; the thoughts are still here, but the heart is long past them. Forever stuck in quick sand that sucks in colors, leaving only the barest shades of grey… My emotions.

But it is too late. The infinite has gone on for too long. The sun will never be yellow; the sky will never be blue. The cars will never startle, and the houses will never whisper. Everything is still here, but hollow and meaningless.

It is just I, and infinity, now and forever more.
