I'm working towards a new style that is more realistic and has no outlines - this was a test.Hato looks kind of masculine in this - but that wasn't really the point, I was mostly practicing with lighting and no outline drawing.

Here's just an idea to take to mind.
If I'm not mistaken, that's a fire on its head.
If that's a fire, fire gives off light which would brighten up the top of its head.

That looks freakin' AMAZING. And no, Hato doesn't look masculine at all. The eyes are too big.
