Description -1914, December, Mountain Fort Briggs-

She drew her finger back and poked the inside of his ear.

Miles jumped a mile, waking from his sleep. "Lucy!"

She showed him her gloved hand and shook her head. Standing up, she sighed, putting her hands on her hips. "Sleeping? You really should not pull forty-hour shifts every week."

Miles rubbed his neck as he got to his feet. "What time is it?"

"Well, let's put it this way; Vato is in need of your company now."

Miles nodded. He looked at Lucy. "Will you be okay with the tigers on the prowl everywhere?"

Lucy was about to speak when the door opened to Lucy's office. She closed her mouth. "General."

"Ah. Major Drake, Major Miles, may I have a word with you?"

Lucy's face remained as stagnat as ever while Miles just stood there. Finally, Lucy spoke up. "If you wish to have a word with me, you may. This is my office. However, Major Miles doesn't have an office, so, go find somewere else to speak with him."

Miles grinned under the surface.

"Very well. Major Miles, will you excuse us?"

Miles saluted the general and gave Lucy a little bow before exiting, collecting the books and papers he'd left on her table.

When the door closed, Lucy's stagnant face became cruel. "What do you want?"

"This office.... why do you have one? The only Major in the fort who has an office. Why is that?" He was examining her only piece of decoration; a picture of two children that almost looked like twins, holding hands, and standing in a flowering garden in the peak of spring.

Lucy sighed. "Exactly  how much did our leader tell you about our Fortress, sir?" She moved around and stood behind her desk, lightly touching her fingers to it's surface.

He just smiled at her. "Well, they said that you would have to be a fool to not understand what was going on around here. However, they said nothing about who was responsible for what."

Lucy suddenly cracked a smile. It looked dark on her face while she smiled in a childish manner. "Well, if that's the case, then your ass is on the line. This office you decided to put your filthy boots into is the Office of Torture as well as the Office of Combat and Heavy Weapons."

"How dare you speak to me that way!"

Lucy lifted her hands and slammed them back down, her cold and cruel eyes looked him clean in the eye. "In this place, you either earn respect or you lose it. The five main laws of Briggs are these; 1: Survival of the fitest, 2: Obey the power, and if you have power, you just might survive, 3: Nothing is given freely, 4: You may not gain power or respect until you have faced down a bear in combat, and 5: Think for yourself, do not falter in your step and do not fear death or the fall of an ally." She met his gaze. "You claim to be the Tigers of Central. I've lived amongst you long enough. I know what you dirty men do in your spare time."

He glared down his nose at her. "You think I should obey the laws you set down because of Armstrong?"

Lucy just stood up straight. "If you don't trust me nor believe me, I can prove just how strong my men are compared to your Major Harris and his men. And that would include you taking me hostage. Any one of my men can take down five of yours before he or she needs a breather."

The General just glared at her. "I have no intention of finding that out. My men are able and capable. Now, tell me, are you the the current leader of this Fortress while the Major General is away?"

Lucy just stone-walled his attempts to read her eyes. "You ask? In that case, yes and no."

Again, he glared at her, but she didn't buckle. "Who leads when Armstrong is away?"

She suddenly performed a childish face and touched her chin with a finger. "Oh! There's me and him.... oh! There's also her! And then the Captain." She smiled childishly, but the presence she carried was threatening and almost like a mother bear who was not about to surrender her cubs to a hungry predator. Still, she stood like that, hands behind her back, leaning forward, a childish smile playing upon her lips, and cold, un-moved, soulless eyes.

The General buckled. "Wh-what?! You can't even give me a straight answer?!"

Lucy came around and picked up the metal frame with the picture. "You think I didn't answer you straight? Oh, well, then, you ask who's in charge, you are. Isn't that why you're here, mister?" She half-lidded her eyes. "We fall under you from now on. But don't expect all of us to roll over so easily." She picked up he paperwork and began to walk out the door. "Let the next person know that the door jam sticks if the door isn't used often." She slammed it behind her and stopped.

Miles and Karley were standing there. Karley smiled at her.

Lucy shrugged. "He's going to see how the bears of the firgid north of safety." She walked passed Miles, her black hair flaring out behind her, revealing the empty holders for her two swords that were safely tucked away in the armory. It also revealed her lack of a pistol.

Karley held out a paper. "Here. This is in need of your attention."

Lucy nodded and placed it atop her stack of papers. She began to read it over as Miles and Karley followed her to the main Communications Room.
