That's OK. At the time of posting, I didn't know that. By the time I did find out (i.e. about a month ago), I'd used tuxedo so often (and so did some other people) that I decided I'd just stick with it.

Don't know. They said Cadance was Celestia's neice. Cadance is definitely not Luna's daughter because the timeline prohibits that. So it does make me wonder how many ponies are in Celestia's / Luna's family.

See this comment [link] from Lauren (referring to Prince Blueblood, before he was given a name in the Season One finale). It follows then that, similarly, Cadance is only referred to as Celestia's "niece" in the interest of brevity - and, by extension, that Cadance's title of "princess" is not literal in the way that Celestia's and Luna's are, just as Blueblood is more of a noble or aristocrat than what we think of as an actual prince.
(Also, this verges on headcanon/speculation territory, but given the previous facts, it appears that there's a chance - probably an extremely small one, since the only alicorns we've ever seen outside of the royal sisters are the background filly in Lesson Zero and Cadance herself - that anypony with a blood relation to Celestia and Luna could potentially end up being born as an alicorn as well, minus the unmatched magical potency that remains unique to the royal sisters.)

I hadn't seen that comment before; it was interesting reading.
I personally agree that while Cadance is an alicorn, she is not a 'goddess' like Celestia / Luna, hence the lack of e.g. flowing mane and I believe she's probably not immortal either. As for how she became an alicorn... maybe just a genetic 'winged unicorn' mutation...? Anyway, it's fun to speculate.

Yep, she was in the Twilight's brief flashback to magic kindergarten (just to the right of Twilight here [link] with a closer view here [link] ). It's long since been dismissed by the general fandom as an animation error, but thanks to all the new quasi-information about alicorns that Cadance's existence has brought about, I guess the filly can be retroactively confirmed as canonical after all.
And yeah, the part where I added that any non-Celestia/Luna alicorns wouldn't have the sisters' extreme prowess in magic was basically my way of saying that Cadance is an alicorn via "genetics only" (I even tried to fit the word "genetic" somewhere in my explanation); really, it could be said that she's not an alicorn at all, if you take "alicorn" as a description of Celestia and Luna's traits, but merely a "winged unicorn," since it seems that she literally happens to have the attributes of both a pegasus and a unicorn but nothing beyond that.
